UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
*JAMESu F. BEOKWITH, OF ALBION, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE SHELVES. I
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,320, dated September 30, 1873; application filed August 8, 1873.
'To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES F. BEcKwITH, of Albion, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Stove-Pipe Shelves, of which the following is a specification:
'Ihe object of my invention is to provide a shelf which may be easily attached to the pipe which leads from the stove, and which may be folded up at pleasure.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 is a bottom view, Fig. 8 is a side view, of a portion of one of the hinges.
The shelf is made in three principal parts, two of which, A and B, are provided with semicircular recesses at a and b, which, when placed together, form a circular opening of suitable size to embrace the pipe for which the shelf is intended. The parts A and B are hinged together at O by means of a rivet or bolt, and at D they are clamped together by means of the bolt d, which passes through the lugs o c. E E are arms whichY are cast on the parts A and B, and are provided with the notches e-e and the lugs f f, which may be placed as represented in the drawing, or on the other side of the notches e e. F is the movable or folding part of the shelf, which is sustained by the wires g g, placed across openings left for that purpose. rlhese wires rest in the notches e e, and form a hinge on which the shelf F turns. h h are lugs which arecast on the shelf F, and serve to prevent it from getting below a horizontal position when it is let down.
The design of the shelf is such that very little labor is required in its manufacture, all the holes being cast in 5 also the wires g g, which form the hinge.
The shelf represented in the drawing is plain, but the manufacturer may exercise his taste in using any design of scroll or net-work.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The stove-pipe shelf constructed of the p arts A, B, and F, hinge O, bolt d, arms E, wires g, and lugs h, substantially as specied.
