The attachment A, shown in Figures 1, r

2, 3, 4: and 5, is intended for use upon wall registers, .Suchas shown at B in Figures 2 and 4C. This attachment comprises a casing 1 of rectangular shape, or the shape of the register and which is formed of any suitable material. The front and rear faces are open and a flange 2 is formed around the open front faceand inwardly extending ears '3 are formed with-or secured to the rear part for engaging the flange B of the register for holding the attachment in place.

The drawing shows one of these ears on the top and one side of the attachment, though 1921. Serial No. 486,750.

it will be understood that any number of such ears may be used.

A frame 4 is adapted to be placed in the attachment and to be held between the flange 2 by the inwardly extending strips 5 which are connected with the sides of the casing.

This frame is preferably formed of metal with each part ofchannel shape in cross section and supports a pair of screens 6, one of which is of small mesh and the other of large mesh. This frame and its screens are so formed that the screens will cover the open front of the casing so that the hot air passing from the register into the casing must pass through said screens before it enters the room. Thus particles of dust and other foreign matter are prevented from entering the room so that the air within the room is kept free of dust. The frame is inserted in the casing through alslot 7 formed in oneend of the casing.

The attachment shown in Figures 6 and 7 is adapted to be used with a floor register, shown at C. This attachment has its 'bottom and one side open with its top closed,

as at '8, such top sloping downwardly from the open side to the closed side. The opening in-the bottom fits over the flange of the register, and the screen frame 9 rests upon the flange 10 which forms the wall of said opening. Thus the hot air flowing from the register must pass through the screens before it enters the casing and this air then passes from the casing through the open side. In this form ofthe invention the air is directed against the floor so that it will cause the circulation of air in the room so that the heat will be evenly distributed to all parts of the room, thus preventing the accumulation of heated air at the ceiling as is usual with the ordinary types of heaters.

In this form of the invention the ears are not needed as thev device simply rests upon the floor with the flange of the register engaging the walls of the opening and thus holding the attachment in place over the register. A flange 10' is formed at the bottom of the open side to help hold the screen frame in place.

It is thought from. the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may .make changes in the co struction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Vhat I claim is z- A register attachment comprising a rectangular shaped casing having closed side and end walls and open front and rear faces, a flange formed integrally with the walls and adapted to extend inwardly over the front face, a plurality of ears secured totending flange, said frame having its members formed of channel strips, a plurality of strips secured to the side walls and adapted to support said frame within the casing and a pair of screens arra ged in su er-imp'o'sed relation and having their edges secured in said channel, one screen having a larger mesh than the other as and for the purpose specified.
