Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4i, 1922.
Application led June 15, 1920. Serial No. 389,122.
T 0 all whom t may concern.'
'Be it known that I, EMRY L.- CUNNING- HAM, a citizen of the TJnited States, residing at Sikeston, in the county of Scott and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Faucet Valves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in faucets, the principal object of the invention being to provide means whereby either hot or cold water, for instance, may be supplied to the tub or bowl or both hot and cold water at the same time, the water being mired in the faucet. t
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specilically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reierence will be had to the accompanying,` drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is an elevation of the improved faucet. u
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.
Figures 3, t, 5, and 6 are cross sectional views showing the valve member in different positions.
In these views l indicates the casing which has both ends open and which has a pair oic inlet nipples 2 and 3, one of these nipples' being adapted to be connect-ed with the hot water supply and the other nipple with the cold water supply. The valve member is indicated at fi, and this member tits within the casing snugly and is formed to make a water tight fit therein. The upper end of this member is closed and supports the upright 5 to which the handle 6 and the soap cup 7 are secured. rlhe casing and valve member are of tapered formation as shown, and the lower end of the valve member is screw threaded to receive the lock nut 8, a crimped steel washer 9 being located between the nut and the bottom ot the casing so as to make a water tight connection between the parts. A nozzle l() ts in the lower end of the valve member and formed on said nozzle and a gasket l2 is placed between this shoulder and the end of the valve member.
A. slot is formed in the wall of the valve member in line with the inlet nipples and this slot is of such a length as to leave a closure part lll of a size slightly greater than a half circle so that in one position of this part both the inlet nipples will be closed as shown in Figure 3, in another part both nipples will be open as shown in Figure 4, in a third position one inlet will be closed and the other 'open and in the fourth position the opposite inlet will be opened and the other one closed, these last two positions beinoa shown in Figures 5 and 6. As shown iii these cross sectional views the inlets are located to one side of the center so that the closure part lli may properly control the same.
It will thus be seen that both hot and cold water, for instance, may be delivered by the faucet or either hot or cold alone or the water entirely shut oli".
n It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes' fall within the scope of the appended claim.
that I claim is faucet valve comprising a casing having both ends open and a pair of spaced inlet nipples, one of said nipples being connected with the hot water supply and the other with ne cold water supply, a valve member fitted within said casing and formed to make a water tight lit therein, an upright supported by the upper end of said valve member and a handle secured to said upright, a soap cup mounted on the top of said upright, said casing and valve having tapered formation and the lower end or" said valve being screw threaded to receive a nut, a crimped steel washer located between the nut and the bottom of the casing, a nozzle fitted in the lower end of the valve member, a shoulder formed on said nozzle and a gasket located between the shoulder and the end of the valve member, the wall of said valve member having a slot Jformed therein of such a length as to leave a closure part of a size slightly greater than a half circle.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
EMRY L. CUNNINGHAM.
