Description

A. CHENEL.
WINDOW ROD FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 28, I92I.
A-VTRNEY vI-IITNEssss ist? LNMT@ STATE ALBERT CI-IENEL, OF NEV BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
WINDOW-ROD FAS/TENER.
Application led February 28, 1921.
To @ZZ flic/0m it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALBERT CIIENEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State or" Massachusetts, have invented new and usetul improvements in lindow-Rod Fastenets, ot which the following is aspeciiication.
ln the ordinary construction of window trames, the parting head for the sashes is let into groove in the side members or stiles ot the trame` and not infrequently the inner and outer sash beads are also let into grooves. In many instances, however, the beads are nailed to the side members of the frame. It frequently becomes necessary to remove these beads, when it is desired to remove the sashesy and as the said beads must be pried away trom the "trame, injury is iniiicted to both the beads and the frame.
It is the object of the present invention to produce a means whereby the beads may be effectively sustained on the frame without the employment 01"' nails or the like, and likewise be readily removed therefrom when occasion requires without imparting` injury to either the beads or the frame.
The foregoing, and other objectswhich will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a simple construction, combination and arrangement of parts, such as is disclosed by the drawings which accompany and term part ot this applica-tion.
ln the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a window 'trame showing the beads attached thereto in accordance with this in- `vention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view, on an enarged scaie, and approximately on the line 2 2 ot Figure l.
Figure 3 is a view of the elements constituting the attaching means.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2i, i922,
Serial No. 448,596.
T he side member ot an ordinary window trame is indicated, in the drawings, by the numeral l. The parting' bead is indicated by the numeral 2, the inner bead by the nu meral 3 and the outer bead by the numeral et. The parting; bead 2 and the outer bead 4tare let into 2grooves in the side member oi:
the window frame.
In the sides of the trame in the center of each ot the `grooves, :for the beads, I screw therein socket members 5. The sockets have their entering ends pointed as at 6, and their opposite or outer ends kerted, as at 7. The bore ot each ot the sockets is threaded and the sockets are, ot course, provided on their outer surfaces with threads. The kerf is designed to receive a screw driver or like instrument whereby the sockets may be screwed into the member l.
Each of the beads, 3, 2 and 4, in a line with the respective sockets have openings therethrough, the said openings being rein- :torced by metallic sleeves 8. Passing through these sleeves S are the threaded shanks 9 ot headed members l0, the said Shanks entering the threaded bores ot the sockets, and contacting with the outer Vtlangijed ends oi the sleeves 8 bind the beads in their respective grooves and secure the saine on the side otl the frame.
Having` thus described the invention, l claim A device ltor the purpose set forth, comprising a socket member having` a pointed end and lraving` Xterior threads for the length thereot, said socket having its widened end kerted andl its bore threaded, a tlang'ed s'eeve designed to Contact with the widened end et' the socket, and a headed screw pass- C' through the'sleeve and threadedly engagging` the bore ot' the socket.
In testimony whereoic l my signature.
ALBERT CHENEL.
