UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM L. PRITCHETT AND WILLIAM H. WALKER, 0F DOVER, DELAWARE.
EMBAL'MERS OPERATING STAND.
Application filed April 20, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM L. PRrroH- ETT and WVILLIAM H. WALKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Dover, in the county of Kent and State of Delaware, have invented a new and useful Embalmers Operating Stand, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to embalmers operating stands and is used to hold and operate various types of embalming instrumentsin the nature of embalmers pumps, injectors and ejectors.
The objects of. our invention are to enable one person to do the work of two, with the aid of the device which leaves the hands of the operator free, to provide operating means which may be easily carried from place to place and the cost of manufacture of which is small, and to provide a device which wlll more effectively perform this class of work than has heretofore been discovered.
With these and other objects in view, as will more fully hereinafter appear, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, here inafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, size, materials, and minor details of the structure may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one side of the device;
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing another side of the device; and
Figure 3 is a detail view of the rod which is removably attached to the embalmers pump shown in the drawing, more particularly in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a tripod, the upright 2 of which is mounted on the leg 3 thereof by means of a hinge. The legs i and 5 are also hinged to the leg 8; said legs being locked in operating position by the locks 66'. The pedal 7 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 8 running through the angle iron 9 which is attached to said leg 3 and said pedal is adapted to move in a vertical plane. A connection 10 is attached at one end to the pedal 7 and at its other end to the rod 11. This rod 11 has a lug 12 on its inner side which is adapted to slide in the guide 13 of the upright 2 and also carries a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 17, 1922.
Serial No. 462,929.
lug 14: on its opposite side which is used for connecting the rod 11 with the hand grip of an embalmers pump and locking said hand grip thereon by means of the swinging lock 15, pivoted on the lug 14 at 16. The upright 2 has formed thereon a resilient grlpping means, 17, for holding the instrument to be used and also has the seat 1818 mounted thereon to assist in the prevention of vertical motion of the instrument when in use. One of the nozzles of the embalmers pump shown in the drawing is adapted to have attached thereto a tube, shown in dotted lines, for connection with the body.
The operation of the device is as follows:
When it is desired to inject embalming fluid into a body or to remove the gases therefrom, the device is set up and the legs locked in position. The tube is attached to the nozzle and inserted in the proper place in the body and the pedal worked, either fast or slow as occasion demands. This pedal, through the means of the connection 10 and rod 11, carrying the lug 12, which slides in the guide 13, operates the embalmers pump, the hand grip of which is removably chrriod by the lug 14 having the lock 15 and mounted on the rod 11.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In an embalmers operating stand, in combination, an upright having a guide therein, a pedal, a rod, connecting means between said pedal and said rod, a lug mounted on said rod and adapted to slide in said guide, means for engaging and means for locking the hand grip of an embalmers pump to said rod.
2. In an embalmers operating stand, a long leg, an upright hinged to said leg. other legs hinged to said leg, and a peddl carrying attachment carried by said leg.
3. In an emblamers operating stand, a
leg, an upright, having a guide formed foldably mounted on said long leg, a pedal carrier mounted on said leg, a pedal pivoted in said pedal carrier, a rod, connecting means between said rod and said pedal, means on said rod for guiding the same in said guide .7 of the upright, means tor engaging and means for locking said rod to the hand grip of an embalming instrument.
5. In an embalmers operating stand, legs for said stand, one of which is longer than the others, means for foldably carrying the shorter legs on said longer leg, an upright, having a guide formed therein, foldably mounted on said longer leg, locking means for said legs and said upright, resilient means mounted on said upright adapted to grip and hold an instrument from horizontal movement, and a seat carried by said upright to prevent vertical movement of said instrument.
6. In an embalmers operating stand, a tripod, an upright having a guide formed therein, carried by one of the legs of said tripod, means for preventing horizontalmovement of an instrument carried by said upright, means for preventing vertical movement of an instrument carried by said upright, a pedal support mounted on said leg, a pedal adapted to move in a vertical plane a connection between said pedaland said rod, means carried by said rod adapted to slide in said guide of the upright, means formed on said rod adapted to engage the hand grip of an instrument, and means for locking saidhand grip from disconnection from said hand grip engaging means.
7 In an embalmers operating stand, a tripod having one ofvits legs longer than the others, two legs foldably mounted on said long leg, an upright, having a guide therein, toldably mounted on said long leg, locking means for said legs and said upright, a pedal carrier attached to said long leg, a pedal pivotally mounted in said carrier, a rod, a connection between said pedal and said rod, a lug mounted on the inner side of said rod for sliding in said guide ofthe upright, a lug on the opposite side of said rod adapted to engage thehand gripof an instrument, locking means carried by said uprigllit, and an instrument holder on said upri t.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures. v r
