My invention embalming instruments and. more particularlyto the drainage tubes used for emptying blood yessels.
One object ofthe invention is to provide form of drainage tube having a novel slide valve for closing the vrdischarge neck whenever necessary, and inthis connectiony a further object is to make unique prolimiting the movement of the valve when it is either closed or opened.
Another object of the invention is to form which penetrates the of a separate piece from the re- Ythe device, and to employ a screw-threaded connection between the two, whereby j several tube4 sections of different blood vessel,
'Sizes maybe used, as occasion may require.
1 Withl the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel construction and ar-v rangement ot parts hereinafter described descriptive ,l matter being 'supplemented'by the accompanying drawings, v Figure 1 is a side elevation ofY a drainage tube constructed yin accordance with myina longitudinal sectional view Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view vshowing the valve in closed position. Y y Y Fig. "L1 is a longitudinal section ofa smaller tube section which `may be used inl lieu of thatshown'in Figs. 1 and 2.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates an outer tube sec-` tion or head whose outer end is closed by a screw-plug or thelike-` 2, which plug is here shownas carrying a yoke 3 having a cross bar 4 spaced outwardly from the plu or closure. At a point spaced inwardly from the plug 2, the head lis provided with a lateral discharge neck 5 to which a 'flexible tube is connected inthe usual way.

ner end ofthe head1, is an inner relatively long tube section 7 whose free end is by preference cut onan oblique line as at 8,`to facilitatefinsertion into blood vessels. This tube section may be-of any adequate size and I intend to equip each one ofthe devices vwith Several of these tubes of different di- `ameters, any one of to thehead 1 for use,"thereby enabling the embalmer to vmeet any conditions which may arise.
Slidable within the tube section `7 y and adapted to extendbeyond ythe end thereof as Figs. 1 andg2, is a resilient vessel extender 9 which is by preference formed ofseveral wire loops as shown. This vessel extender is carried by andoperated by a rod lOlwithin the device, said rod passing through the plug 2v and the cross-bar tv and having a knob 11 on its outer end. By operatingk this knob, the extender 9 may be projected, retracted, or rotated, and thus blood clots and the like may be readily broken up, but if any fibrous material lin the blood clogs the device,- it may be necessary to 4remove the extender 9 for cleaning. This may be easily done, by' unscrewing the `plug 2.
valve 12 is positioned beyond the neck 5 and which vmay beapplied abutsthe inner end of vhe plug 2 as shown in I Fig. 2. For operating the valve, I have provided a stemgla which lextends through 'the plug 2 and inthe vpresent showingg'this stem 'is'offtubular form to surround the rodlO.
1 An yoperating i y y outer endVV of the stem v12land this knob yispositioned within the yoke 3 so that` its-outer and inner movements will be limited thereby, thus controlling the movement of thevalve1-2. y
Tnoperation, the proper tube section 7 isattached to the head 1, the' usual flexible tubeis connected with the outlet neck 5,- and the device is then inserted into the vessel tlo t e valve 12 is opened, and the contents of the vessel drained ofi, any blood clots or the like bein effectively broken up by moving the vesse extender 9 longitudinally Withinv Vsaid tube having Y extender slidable y the tube section or by rotating thejsanie,A
When this extenderisein the. position vs'hovvn in Figs. l and 2, it prevents the blood Vessel from closing in ofxthe'devic'e. If however said extenderis clogged by fibrous matter', lit maybe WithV drawn into the Vtube section 7, thereby iallowing the vessel to collapse'and choke the desired, the 'lovg` or discharge through the l neck 5 Vmay be cut off by sliding the valve l2 inwardly to theposition shown in YF ig.
`From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, itV Will be jseen that althoughvmy invention is Ofcom# .paratively lsimple' it Will be highly efficientv and desirable in nu Q merous. Ways.
andj inexpensive nature,
Since probably the best-'rejsults mayy be obtained from -the details disclosed, such details may be followed, but
Within the scope of the invention as claimed,
. Lnumerous minor changes vmay Well be made.
