One object ofthe invention is to provide form of drainage tube having a novel slide valve for closing the vrdischarge neck whenever necessary, and inthis connectiony a further object is to make unique prolimiting the movement of the valve when it is either closed or opened.

In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates an outer tube sec-` tion or head whose outer end is closed by a screw-plug or thelike-` 2, which plug is here shownas carrying a yoke 3 having a cross bar 4 spaced outwardly from the plu or closure. At a point spaced inwardly from the plug 2, the head lis provided with a lateral discharge neck 5 to which a 'flexible tube is connected inthe usual way.

This vessel extender is carried by andoperated by a rod lOlwithin the device, said rod passing through the plug 2v and the cross-bar tv and having a knob 11 on its outer end. By operatingk this knob, the extender 9 may be projected, retracted, or rotated, and thus blood clots and the like may be readily broken up, but if any fibrous material lin the blood clogs the device,- it may be necessary to 4remove the extender 9 for cleaning. This may be easily done, by' unscrewing the `plug 2.
