Description

M. e. FERNANDEZ.
SUGAR CANE MILL- APPLICATION FILED MAR 27, I919.
Patented Sept. 13, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
suomcruvn MILL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 13, 1921.
Application filed March 27, 1919. Serial N 0. 285,529.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MANUEL GARCIA FER NANDEZ, a citizen of the Ar entine Relpublic,
residing at Buenos Aires, rgentine epublie, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sugar-Cane Mills, of which the following is a specification.
This invention refers to certain improvements to be introduced in sugar cane mills, for the purpose of utilizin the cast iron rollers which form the cylin ers, when those rollers become useless for work through wear.
It is customary at the present day, in all sugar factories to thoroughly dismount the sugar cane mill and take away the cylinder .or cylinders when the rollers are worn out some five centimeters through Wear, in order to replace those cylinders fixing new ones with rollers of suflicient diameter. The worn out rollers are then broken up in order to allow the shaft to be used again, applyin to it a newly cast roller.
Tn order that the present description should be better understood I have attached ex lanatory drawings which are as follows:
igure 1 is a front elevation of a cylinder im roved according to my invention.
ig. 2 is a cross section of same cylinder on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. N p
The invention consists essentially in forming the circumference of thecylinder by juxtaposed plates fixed in a position normal to the shaft and held through splines and screw rings to the already worn out jacket previously grooved or that has been cast on purpose to smaller diameter.
As can be seen in Fig. 2, circle A represents the limit of Wearing out through use, that is to say when the roller has become uselessycircle B represents the part that has to be turned and C designates the plates wlth holding ribs D forming part of the cover of plates E, each one of which is fixed to the roller by a plurality of screws F.
When new rollers have to bemade, they must be cast and turned until reaching diameter B. When it is a case of having to repair common cylinders which have been worn out, the rollers must be grooved until the same diameter B has been reached, which can be done by turning them without having to dismount the mill, and then fitting the lining formed by plates E and which will increase the diameter to the requisite point.
I claim:
A crushing roll comprising a central cylindrical portion having longitudinal grooves formed in its periphery, a plurality of juxtaposed circumferential plates approximately Wedge shaped in cross section and having longitudinal ribs engaging said grooves, and bolts passing through the plates and ribs into said central portion for securing the plates to the latter.
