To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AKI MIYAMOTO, asubject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Catamenial Belts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, "clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to improvements in catamenial appliances.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of catamenial appliances and to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive catamen'ial belt designed to be worn by females during the menstrual periods and adapted to comfortably fit the body and equipped with means for supportmg a sponge or other material for absorbing the menstrual flow.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character adapted to be conveniently employed for applying napkins to young children and capable of affording easy and convenient means of applying medicine to the affected parts of patients suffering from piles and adapted also to be worn by women both before and after childbirth.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

meeting edges 2 having buttons 3 and button holes 4 and adapted to be fastened together to secure the device in place. The belt which may be constructed of any suitable material preferably of an impervious character is provided at the center of the back portion with an integral bandage 5 adapted to extend between the legs of the wearer and provided at the front or free end with button holes 6 arranged at the center and sides of the said front or free end and adapted to button to the front of the belt as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The bandage is tapered at the rear portion at 7 and the side or end portions of the belt are enlarged and extended downwardly to form a partial garment and are provided with lining 8 of flannel or other suitable material adapted to fit against the abdomen of the wearer and maintain the same in a warm condition. The side portions of the belt are provided with buttons 9 which are arranged at opposite sides of one of the buttons 3 when the belt is fastened in place to the body of the wearer so that the said buttons will be in convenient position to receive the free end of the bandage portion 5 of the device.

The lower edges of the enlarged side portions of the belt are preferably curved as shown and the marginal edges of the contiguous portions of the belt and the bandage are gathered at 10 and are provided with elastic strips 11 which are adapted to make a closer, neater and more comfortable fit of the appliance. The central portion of the bandage is concaved to provide a sack like portion which is lined with relatively heavy rubber 12 to adapt it to receive a sponge or other absorbent material for catching and retaining the discharge. The upper edge of the belt is substantially straight and may have a hem 13 as shown.

What is claimed is 1. In a device of the character described, a substantially T-shaped member formed from a single piece of material, each arm of the head of said member adjacent its point of juncture with the stem being provided with an upwardly curving cutout adapted to fit over and about the hips of the wearer, the material contiguous to said cutout being gathered, and an elastic strip secured to each of said arms and extending about the upper portion of the cutout thereof and conforming in outline thereto, the gathered portions of said arms and the cutouts con-t tiguous thereto, together with said elastic strip, cooperating to permit the device to be snugly fitted about and over the wearers hips, and the elastic strips serving to retain the arms of the head of said member in snug fitting engagement with the hips of the wearer so as to hold the device in proper position while permitting freedom of movement on the part of the wearer.

2. An abdominal support and catamenial belt comprising a waist band, means for detachably connecting the ends of the waist band, a one piece skirt connected to the lower edge of the waist band and having its lateral sides provided with curved hip receiving recesses and gathered at the highest points of said recesses, said recesses providing a rear tab-at the transverse center of the skirt and a front tab at each front edge of the skirt, means for detachably connecting the front tabs over the abdomen to provide a support therefor and to close the front of the skirt, a bandage connected to the rear tab, means for detachably connecting the bandage to both fronttabs, and an elastic strip secured to the edge of each recess at the highest point thereof for exerting continuous inward pull upon the front and rear tabs and upon the skirt above the tabs.
