Description

UNITED. STATES JosnrH'szEFczYK, or 1 AssA1,o, 'NEw' JERSEY, i
USTABLE WINDOW-SHADE BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct. 19,1920- Application filed December 5, 1 919.,Seria1 No. 342,740. c
To all whom it may can cm:
Be it known that, I, JosnrH Sznrozrx, a
, citizen of Poland, who have declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the United States, residing at Passaic, in the county of Passaic, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Window-Shade Bracket; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to an adjustable window shade bracket, and has for its object to provide a device of this charact-er which embodies novel features of construction whereby it can be permanently applied to a window casing and readily adjusted to fit various lengths of shade rollers, thereby avoiding the necessity of marring and mutilating the woodworkby driving screws or nails into the same in different positions when it is necessary to adjust the positions of the brackets.
Further objects of the inventionare to provide a device of this character which is simple and inexpensive in its construction whichcan be applied to the window casings without difficulty, which provides for holdin the parts in proper assembled relation, an which can be easily and quickly adjusted in the required manner.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combina tions and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.
For a full understanding of the invention,
reference is to be hadto the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a window casing provided with adjustable shade brackets constructed in accordance with the invention. i
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail View of one of the brackets. V
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the same.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views ofthe drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, the reference character A designates .a window casing wh1ch1s of the conventional construction and which is provided with a pair ofshade brackets constructed in accordance with the invention. The brackets 5 project outwardly in the usual manner from the window casing, one of the brackets being provided with the usual pivot opening 5 while the other bracket is provided with the usualslot, said opening 5 and slot serving to engage the circular and angular studs which are" ordinarily provided at opposite ends of a shade roller, such as that indicated at B. These brackets 5 are formed at their bases with slides 6 which are adjustable upon slideways 7, said slideways being pressed outwardly from plates 8.
The plates 8 have an elongated formation and are horizontally disposed, the corners of the plates being provided with openings by means of which they can be secured in position upon the window casing by suitable fastening members such as the screws 9.
The slideway 7 is in the form of achannel which extends longitudinally the full length of the plate and is pressed outwardly therefrom, the top of the slideway being formed with a longitudinally extending slot 10, while the side walls of the channel shaped slideway are preferably provided, upon the interior thereof with laterally extending grooves 11. This construction provides undercut portions 12 at the exterior of the slideway at the sides thereof. The slide 6 at the baseof the bracket 5 has the extremities thereof bent inwardly and returned into the undercut portions 12, as indicated at 6*,
thereby holding the slide in position upon the slideway, although it isfree to be shifted longitudinally thereon. A small block 13 is fitted in the channel formation under the slideway, the sides of the block being preferably formed with lateral wings 14.- which are received within the grooves 11 so that the block is retained in position within the channel, although it is free to slide longitudinally therein. A clamping screw 15 extends through an opening in the slide 6 and the slot 10 into a threaded engagement with the block 13. When this clamping screw is tightened the slide 6 and block 13 are drawn forcibly against opposite sides of the slideway so astogrip the same and hold the bracket securely in an adjusted position.
loosened the bracket can be moved longitudinally upon the slideway and adjusted in the desired manner.
lVith this construction it will be obvious that the two plates 8 can be permanently mounted upon the window casing, and that when it becomes necessary to adjust the brackets to fit a slightly different length of shade roller this can be easily accomplished without the necessity of shifting the position of the screws or nails in the Woodwork and mutilating the same.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the character described, including a plate having a channel shaped slideway pressed outwardly therefrom, the top of the slideway being formed with a longitudinal slot, while the sides of the slide before mentioned slot, and a shade bracket carried by and projecting from the slide.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH SZEFCZYK.
