Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 4, 1920. Serial No: 363.125.
'ments in Mattresses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to rectangular mattresses made up of filling sections and an inclosing casing therefor comprising flexible lower and vupper portions connectible by overfolding side and end flaps; and my object is to provide an improved construction whereby maintenance of the normal relation of the casing and filling sections will be insured in connection'with ease of access to the filling sections as desired. The invention is fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and is specifically defined in the subjoined claims.
The drawing is a perspective view of a complete mattress embodying my invention; a portion of the casing cover being represented as loosened and thrown back to afford access to the filling sections.
The casing is made up of similar lower and cover portions each comprising a flexible mattress facing 10 with side flaps 11,
and end flaps 12, the flaps of the cover portion overfolding the similar flaps of the lower portion, and being disconnectedly fastened to the latter so as to properly inclose the placed filling sections 13; which latter may be of any desired rectangular form and variably arranged as desired.
To secure neatness of appearance and satisfactory stability of the systematically arranged filling sections in the inclosing V casing, T have found it important to insure such engagement-of the parts at the corners of the closed casing as will prevent relative movement there, or in other words to insure that the corners of the assembledfilling sections are maintained in proper position at the corners of the casing; and that this'relation can be "conveniently and positively maintained byproviding for slightly projecting the corners of the assembled fillc ing sections through the casing at the corresponding corners of the latter, and by tightly connecting the overfolding flaps of the casing portions adjacent said projecting corners of the filling corners. This is accomplished by cutting away the end'portion of the flaps so as to provide corner openings 15 in the closed casing between the set back ends 16, 16 of the flaps, through which openings corner portions 18' of the assembled;
filling sections may be projected; and by tightly connecting the overfolded flaps so that the set-back ends 16 thereof will prevent displacement of the filling sections relative to the corners of the closed casing. Such connection of the several detached pairs of overlapping flaps is most satisfactorily effected by means of separate lacings 20 extending through successive eyelets in the inner and outer flaps, and each terminating in a locked bowl 21 at the setback end 16of each pair of flaps, so that any desired part of the cover sections may be readily loosened and thrown back as indicated.
What I claim' is I 1. A rectangular mattress comprising filling sections and an inclosing casingtherefor made up of bottom and cover portions having overfolding side and end flaps; said flaps having end portions thereof cut away to form corner openings in the casing through which the corners of the filling'section projects, and being provided with connecting means. 1
2. A rectangular mattress comprising filling sections and an inclosing casing therefor made up of bottom and cover portions having overfolding side and end flaps; said casing portions being cut away to form corner openings through which the filling sections project, and the shortened 0verfolding flap being connected by separate lacings having loosable ends adjacent said corners.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CLAYTON HOBERT.
