COMFORT AND THE LIKE.
Speclficati on of Letters Patent.
Patented July 27, 1920.
Application filed January 23, 1920. Serial No. 353,563.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUCIE R. MoNArT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Arlington, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comforts and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to comforts and other household furnishings, and the object is to provide comforts and other articles which will be relatively inexpensive in the manufacture and which will be sanitary and easily cleaned. Another object is to provide an article of manufacture in which inexpensive and loosely woven and fibrous material and material, which may not be useful for other purposes, can be utilized for manufacturing useful articles. An advantage is that fibrous material, paper, and scrap material can be used with detachable covers, and the advantage is that the covers may be easily and quickly detached so that they can be cleaned and quickl attached to the body of the material. ther ob'ects and advanta es will be fully explained in the following escription and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a comfort which is constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a broken sectional view, showing the clasps, the covers and the filling of fibrous material. Fig. 3 is a plan view of one corner of a cover, showing the lug member of a clasp attached thereto. Fig. 4 is a section of the clasp and the covers and the filling. Fig. 5 is a section of the covers and filling and a side view of the clasps engaged.
Similar characterspf reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The comfort shown is. constructed or manufactured of detachable covers 1 and 2 and a fillin 5. The filling 5 may consist of a number 0 layers of paper or other fibrous material, such as worn woolen oods or some cheap materials Instead of astening the covers 1 and 2 on with tucks or tufts or buttons, detachable clasps are used. The clasps porous which can be easily are attached to the inside of the covers and consist of a lug member 3 and a socket memher 4. The clasps are of ordinary type and need not be described in detail. The clasps are attached to the covers at regular intervals and there are to be the same number of lug members as there are socket members and the lug members must be attached to the inside of the cover so that the lugs of the lug members will enter the sockets of the socket members, the socket members being attached to the inside of the opposite cover. The lug of the lug member will readily penetrate and pass through the fillin material so that it may enter the socket o the socket member. The covers may thus be uickly attached to the comfort and quickly etached Whenever necessary. The covers can be detached for cleansing purposes. The advantage of this construction can be seen when compared.
with articles of this character which are connected by buttons and tufts and other means. When it is understood that from 100 to 200 or 300 such fastenings are necessary, the advantage of the invention herein shown can be appreciated. The clasps have to be attached only once and the covers can then be quickly removed and quickly replaced.
Various articles of household furnishings can be prepared with the quick detachable means so that articles may be economically manufactured. Worn blankets and faded and worn quilts may be provided with the detachable covers so that such articles can be used instead of being wasted. The object of this invention is to make use of cheap and loosely woven fabrics and fabrics that are penetrated by the lug members which wil enter the socket members.
What I claim, is,-
A comfort constructed of two covers and a filling material inclosed between the covers, a
