Description

S. F. VOSE.
HECTAL INJECTION APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 3.1919.
' Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
UNTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL F. VOiSE, OF SHAWIN EE, OKLAHOMA.
RECTAL-INJ ECTION APEARATUS.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, SAMUEL F. VosE. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Shawnee, Pottawatomie county, and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Rectal-Inj ection Apparatus, of which the following is declared to be a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to rectal injection apparatus, and its principal object is to provide an apparatus of improved construction and having self contained means for detachably securing it in place to act as a dam or closure to prevent premature ejectment of the injected fluid. The apparatus is intended for use in giving injections to horses and other animals. The invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The invention is clearly illustrated-in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a central, longitudinal section through an apparatus embodying a simple form of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section, taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and, Fig. 3 is a transverse section rtaken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. c
Referring to said drawing, the reference character 4, designates a nozzle member which also acts as a clamping member and which has secured to it a tubular stem 5, that extends through it and is secured thereto at 6, by soldering or otherwise fastening it thereto. The ytube has a projecting portion 7 at one end arranged for attachment to a flexible tubular connection (not shown) which leads to a suitable plunger operated or other injection apparatus. Conveniently, a corrugated attachment member 8, is provided, which has a reduced screw threaded neck 9, that screws into the internally threaded end of the tube extension 7. 'The other end of the tube 5, projects out through the smaller end of the nozzle member 4, to provide a tip 10, in which is contained a ball or other check valve for preventing back flow through the tube 5. Said valve is here shown as comprising a ball 11, arranged to seat upon a valve seat formed on the end of a bushing 12. A notched bushing 13, secured in the end of the tip 10, prevents the ball from escaping from the end of the tip.
The nozzle member forms one member of muscle clamping means, Associated with Speccation of Letters Patent. Patented Dec, 16, 19.197,'
Application filed April 3, 1919. Serial No. 287,125. i
said nozzle member 4, is companion clamping'means for clamping the device tothe sphincter muscle of the anus and thereby preventing premature ejection ofthe injected fluid.v Said clamping-means eomf prises in addition to the nozzle member 4, a conicalY clamp mem'ber 14, slidably mounted .on the tube extension 7, and means for crowding the clamping members upon the sphincter muscle.` Said means may comprise a wing nut 15, threaded upon the externally threaded end portion of the tube 7. The clamping member 1,4, hasy an elongated neck vportion 16, secured to it, which surrounds the tube 7, and affords a handle for the def vice. 'The nut 15, may be screwed up against the end of the neck 16, and the clamping member 14 is thereby positively forced to-, ward the conical nozzle member 4, to clamp the sphincter muscle therebetween.
To guard against chafing and danger of injury to the animal, and to insure retention ofthe injected fluid, pliable centrally aperfV tured pads 17 18, are Vemployed between-the clamping members.- Said pads are conveniently made of rubber or other pliable material and are removably secured in place. on the opposing sides of the clamping members 4, 14. In the form of the invention illus trated, each clampingmember 4, 14, has a wall 19, 20, soldered or -otherwise secured to it at a place adjacent its larger end, against lwhich the pad is placed. The pads have annular flanges 21, which overhang the edge portions 22, of the clamping members, and areformed with 'complementaL annular ridges and grooves 23, 24,V 25, 26, thatfacili-v tate the clamping action of the clamping members. A washer 27, placed against the pad 17, and fastened in place by the tube portion 7, retains the pad 17, upon its seat and a screw threaded nipple 28, threaded in a flange 29, of the wall 20, and having a shoulder 30, bearing against the pad 18, retains the latter in place against the wall. The clamping members 4, 14, are preferably hollow thereby reducing the weight of the apparatus, and the metal parts may be finished in any desirable manner.
In use, the nozzle portion 4, is inserted far enough to bring the sphincter muscle between the two pads. The thumb or wing nut 15, is then screwed up against the neck portion 16, of the clamping member 14,Y thereby forcing the pad 18, against the muscle and clamping it 'between the pads, thus forming a closure around the tube. The fluid may then be injected through the tube 5, 7, in the usual manner. To .remove the instrument, the nut 15, is unscrewed to loosen the pressure upon the muscle, after which the instrument may be withdrawn. It is fto be -noted rthat therinstrument may be readily taken apart for the purpose of cleaning and sterilizing it.
More or less variation of the exact details of construction is possible without departing from'the spirit of this invention; l desire, therefore, not to limit myself to the eX- act form of construction 'shown and described, but intend, in the following claims,
to'peint out all of the invent-ion disclosed herein. I
I Vclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An apparatus of the character described, comprising a fluid injecting tube, a nozzle member stationarily secured to said tube, a companion clamping member slidably mounted on said tube, annular, muscle gripping pads on the opposing faces of the nozzle and clamping members, and means for adjusting Vsaid slidable clamping member toward the stationary nozzle member.
2. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a fluid injectingtube, a nozzle stationarily secured thereto, an adjustable companion muscle clamping member slidably mounted on saidV tube and coperating with said nozzle to clamp a muscle therebetween, annular, pliable pads .secured to the opposing sides of said nozzle and adjustable clamping member, and a nut threaded on said .tube and arranged to bear against said adjustable clamping member.
3. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a fluid injecting tube having a nozzle member thereon, an adjustable companion muscle clamping `member slidably iounted on 'said tube, opposing annular, muscle gripping pads removably secured to said nozzle and clamping member respectively, and means for adjusting said clamping member toward the nozzle.
4. An apparatus of the class described, comprising a fluid injection tube having a combined nozzle and muscle clamping member thereon, an adjustable muscle clamping.
member slidably mounted on said tube, pliable pads on the opposing sidesof said clamping members, and a nut threaded on said tube and arranged to bear against said adjustable clamping member.
5. An apparatus of the `character described, comprising a fluid injection tube having a connection for a flexible ktube at one end and a check valve at the other end, a nozzle surrounding. said tube at the end containing the check valve, a companion muscle clamping member slidably mounted on said tube and coperating with said nozzle to clamp a muscle therebetween, pliable pads on the opposing` sides of said nozzle and clamping member, and means for adjusting said clamping member toward said nozzle.
6. An apparatus of the character -described, comprising a uid injection tube, a nozzle secured thereto at one end and surrounding the same, said nozzle comprising also one member of a muscle clamp, a companion clamp slidably mounted on said tube and having a reducedneclr surrounding said tube, annular muscle gripping pads on the opposing sides of said clamp members and means for adjusting one of' said members toward the other.
7. An apparatus of the character described, comprising a fluid injection tube, and a two part, oppositely tapering muscle clamp on said tube.
8. An apparatus of the character described, comprising` a fluid injection tube,.a two part, oppositely tapering muscle clamping member, pliable pads on the opposing sides of the two parts of said clamping member, and means for adjusting said parts toward each other.
