To all flo/wm t may concern: y
. Be it known that I, Hinmr C. Miinrrnnnm, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Springfield, in the county ot Hampden and State of llassachusetts, have invented certain new a specilication. This invention relates a bottlewasher whichinay berusedior effectively and conveniently cleaning bottles of the i, type whichfhave relatively ylarge bodies and comparativelysmall 'throats or necks leading' Vinto the bottle, the bottle washer comprising, the 1 main supporting stem'or handle whiohhas a plurality of auxv` iliarfy stems pivotally'fconnected thereto intermediate its ends which stems carry bristles,` projecting outwardly therefronji, and which stems are forced and held into an exq panded cleaning position' by a suitable spring structure carried upon the main body stem of the bottlewaslier.
further object of this invention is to provide a bottle washer as speciied, adapted to be contracted for insertion through the Y neck of a bottle and automatically expanded after it has entered the body of the bottle, which washer is comparatively simple in construction and canV be manutactured tor a low cost, permitting its universal use.
Other Vobjects of the invention will ap ,-pear in the following detailed description,
taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this speciiication, and in which drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of the iinproved `bottle washer having one/ot the auxiliary bristle carrying arms removed.
Fig. 2 is a bottoni plan view of the bottle washer.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the blank of which the spring structure is made for forcing and normally holding the auxiliary bristle carrying arms expanded.
Referring more particularlyto the drawing, l designates the main body stem or support of the bottle washer, which is formed of a single length of wire looped intermediate its ends to form the handle or linger. receiving Vloop 2 and twisted, to
provide a relatively strong stem for carrying and operating the Washer. The twisted lengths of the strand of wire of which the main body stein 1 is formed `have their Specication of Letters Patent.-
and usefull Improvementsin `lottle-Wasliers, of which the following is "strands to fa bottle washei, and an Vobject oiC the invention is to provide lbristles (l thereto.`

twistedY portions spread, intermediate the ends of the bodyas shownat 3, tofpermit the connection to the main body stem ot the auxiliary bristle-carrying stems `These auxiliary bristle-carrying stems-l, like the body stein l free from bristles so as toallow` the arinss to be lfolded to lie against or in close proximity to the depending portion 'l' of thebody stem l, thereby allowing the insertionofA the f washer through small neck o r throat oit i a bottle. y
Thearms if are norniallyiheld extended from the body l bya spring strut-'ture generically indicated by the numeral 8. This spring structure 871s formed of a Vfiat sheet of spring metal cut longitudinally along the lines 9 to -form a plurality of tongues l() which are joined at their inner ends so that `when the blank 8 is folded, along the dotted lines ll, to form a rectangular collar at its lower end, for embracing the stein l, 'the separate tongues l0 are bent outwardly, :tor engagement against the'arins et. The outer upper ends of the tongues l0 are provideiil with cut-out portions l2,
size to engage over the arms si., to provide connection between the arms -l and the tongues 10 to prevent accidental disconnection of the spring member 8 from the arms i 'during the use or' the device ln use, the arms il are moved inwardly toward the body 7, against the action olf-the spring tongues l0, and when in this collapsed position may be forced through the neck ot a bottle. 'After the spread portion 3 of the body stem l has been passed through the nec-lr or mouth or" the bottle into the main body of the same, the pressure against the tongues lOVwill be relieved, and they will force the arms 4 outwardly, into the position shown in Fig. l of the drawing, and permity ting the thorough cleansing of the interior of the body of the bottle. U pon witlidraw-- ing the washer from a bottle, the pulling of a relatively Vcommunica'ting i with the upper i'ree ends, and of snilicient the saine outwardly through the iieek of the bottle Will cause the arins l to be ino'ved inwardly toward the body stein lagainst 'the action of the spring` tongues 10, permitting the easy reinoval of the Washer freni the 1 bottle.
