Be it known that we, ARTHUR F.v Finn and FRANK U. HILL, citizensof the United States, residing at North Platte in the county of Lincoln and State of ebraska, have invented new and useful improvements in Sleeping-Bags, of which the following is a specification..
rlhe appliance which isthe subJect matter of the present application for patent is designed inore .particularly for use by soldiers, campers and other persons, when sleeping out-doors, and the invention has for bag or simi lar appliance which will a ord lcomplete protection to the user thereof, and which appliance, when not in use, can be rolled into a small and comp-act bundle so that it can be easily carried.
Fhe object stated is attained by nieans of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in. order that the sance may be better understood, reference is had to the accompan ing drawings forming a part of this speci cation.
ln the drawings,
Figure l is a perspective View of the appliance ready for use;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the appliance rolled up for transportation;
Fig.- 3 is a perspective view showing the appliance unfolded, and
Fig. t is a cross section of the appliance `when arranged as shown in Fig. l..
ln carrying out the invention, there is provided a structure of canvas or other suitable textile fabric which is so arranged that it is foldable into a bag or similar inclosure or cover for the sleeper. The inclosure has a bottom portion 10 of greater length than width and having at each of its longitudinal edges a side piece llwhich may be integral with the part 10. At the junction of the parts l0 and 11 is a line l2 of stitching demarcating said parts so that the latter will stand up from part l0 to form the sides of the appliance.
At the top of the side portions 11 are flaps 13, and at the junctures of these parts are lines lll f stitching demarcating the saine. 'lhe parts 13 are foldable inward to lie above the parts 10, and their width is such that when thus folded they overlap, in which position they are adapted to be fastened together by suitable fasteners l5,
which latter may be ordinary snaps as shown.
Aht the bottoni'of the part 10 is a foot portion i6 corresponding in height to the side portions ll, and this foot portion has a jap l( which is foldable down over the foldn ed flaps 13, its length bein such that when folded it reaches to the F part 10.,
Atthe longitudinal edges of the flap l? are side Haps 1.8 which are adapted to fold down to come alongside the side portions ll, said parts 17 and 1l being also 'provided with snaps or other suitable fasteners 19 for detachably fastening the same together.
At the top of the part l0 is an extension 20 which 1s foldable inward to serve as a head cover.
Fig. l shows the appliance ready for use with the several parts folded and fastened together as hereinbefore described; lt is to be understood that the parts are in unfolded position when the user gets into the same, and they are then folded and fastened together from the bottoni upward toi complete the bag-like closure. -FVhen the appliance is not in use, the several parts will 'be left fastened together, and the entire appliance may then be rolled up into a small bundle as shownin Fig. 2, the roll being held by straps 2l. passed around the saine and secured by ordinary buckles or other suitable fasteners 22, the straps bein permanently attached' to the under si e of the part l0. When the appliance is made up into a roll the side portions 1l will be folded downward from 'opstanding position so that the structure is now flat and can be easily rolled up into a sinall compact bundle for convenience in carrying the same.
We claim l. sleeping bag comprising bottom, upstanding side, head and foot portions, inwardly foldable flaps on the top of the side portions extending throughout the entire length thereof, a flap on the top of the foot portion foldable on rtop of the folded rstmentioned Haps and extending throughout the entire length thereof to the' head portion, depending side flaps on the second-mentioned flap foldable alongside the upstanding-side portions, and fasteners for detachably securing the aforesaid parts in their folded positions.A '1 b 2. n s eeping ag comprising bottom u standing side, head and foot portions; ig-

In testimony whereof We aiiix our signettures.
