To all whom it may concern.' Y v Be it known that I, YNEWTON F. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jasper, in the county of Marion and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Identification-Tag, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is an identification tag which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can bemade within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Fig. 4 is a sectional detail illustrating a modification of the invention.
In Vcarrying out the present inventionl there is provided a water-proof transparent container 1, preferably 'madeof glass, and Y of but little thickness. `Disposed within the container 1Y isy a tablet 2 made 'of a' refractory and fire-proof material, mica being used ordinarily. 'Y The tablet, 2 is 'y sealed.l hermeticallyv in the container 1, and`,-since the tabletis of yrefralbori material, the. glass'vvhich defining forms the container 1 may be fused across the edge of the tablet, thereby inclosing the tablet completely in glass, although any other suitable means for sealing the tablet hermetically in the container may be provided. An inscription of any desired kind is made on the tablet 2. Preferably, the constituent material of the tablet is altered mechanically to fashion the inscription, and, if desired, the tablet can be perforated, as shown at 3 to fashion the inscription.
Sincethe tablet 2 is completely inclosed in the glass container 1, the tablet will not deteriorate due to the presence of moisture. If the structure is subjected to heat or fire, working a destruction of the glass container 1, the fire-proof tablet 2 vstill will remain intact, its inscription 3 being discernible.
` 1t Vwill be obvious that a body whereon is found a tag constructed in accordance with the invention, may be identified, even may be carried 1f desired the tag may be placed in a sheath i fashioned Y like an envelop and provided with slits 5 ribs 6 through which is passed a belt 7. The belt 7 may be withdrawn and, if desired, the tag, contained within the sheath, may be carried within the pocket.
