Specification o Letters Patent.

This invention relates to new and usefulimprovements in an oil drip device for sewing machines, the objectbeing to provide a simple, inexpensive contrivance ci a drip box and attachments, to be held beneath the table of the sewing machine or other machine, to save the oil which drops from the working parts of the machine.
The invention consists in an oil drip pan provided with a box, preferably closed, said boX being perforated cular form, and designed to ilt said bon, one lend of the absorbing device passing into a pipe connected with the box, through. whic, the oil may flow into a receptacle.
These objects l perform in the preferred embodiment of my invention, which l have illustrated in the accompanying drawings, to which referenceis had, and in which, similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure' l represents aside elevation oit a machine containing my improved device.
Fi 2 representen. plan view of the same, detac e from tlie'fmachine Fig. (d represents a longitudinal section taken on line m-w of Fig. 2; and
lig. 4 .represents the oil absorbing ina- `t`erial removed from the box.
lin the drawings; 1 represents a sewing1 machine; 2 the table, and 3 a casing of ordinary construction. Conveniently located in said casing is a drip pan 4:, to receive the oil which drips from the working parts ot the machine. Located in said drip pan il is a receptacle 5, preferably provided with a lid 6, the bottom and sides of said rece tacle 5 being perforated, and located within said recepten e 5 is the oil absorbing mated and provided with an oil absorbing material, perferably of cir-` titi into a circular mat, `as clearly indicated in lig.y 3 of the drawings, one end of thc rope passingn through the pipe 8, which is cons nected to the receptacle 5 and which passes through the wall or the drip pan and con nectsf with a reservoir 9. The drip pan 4L, the receptacle 5, and the oil absorbing material 7, may have any sine and shape required by the particular construction ot the sewing machine, or other machine, tc which it is applied. l I.
^ VThe device is extremely simple, and in use, will effect a saving of oil which is usually wasted by wiping it into clothes or the like, and where a large number ci machines are in use, the savingn of oil will be considerable; and with the use of my iniprovenient, the goods being sewed will be less liable to be soiled 'from the machine drip pan.
The object of placing the rope in the receptacle 5 is to keep it free from dirt, dust and the like, the sides and bottom of said receptacle 5 with perforations, is to permit the oil, by capillary attraction, to be absorbed by the ',rope and to be filtered thereby before reaching the reservoir', .in order that the oil can e used over and over again. During the passage ot the oil through the rope, it is filtered of itsimpuiities, and the oil, when it reaches the reservoir, is again ready for lubrication purposes. i
Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described, is a highly ellif cient one, and while the device described.
is the preferred embodiment of my present invention, do not care to restrict myself to the exact details of construction, combina tion and arrangement herein set forth, it
being obvious that minor variations thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic, and such departures from what is herein described L and claimed, not involving inventioml conn sider within the scope and .terms oil my claims.
Having thus described my invention, what l' desire to claimy and secure by Lfetters Patent is:-
1. A drip device for sewing or other ina-- shines, comprising a drip pan, a perlioraledl by the cil overilowing and the object of providing,1
cli I W1 Lemme receptacle located in said 'drip pan and er),
oil absorbing material located in said reeepmole.-
2. A drip device for sewing or other ma-A u chimes, comprising e dpip pan, a reservoir connected with sald drip pan, a, perforated i'eceptecle'loeeted irl/Saud drip pen, api e tted to the eee t'aele. and leadjll me t e eservoy, an oil e sorbing n mtera formed'.- 0 miao eelrcillle;V met, located 1n sald rreeptaf cle, one end of seid. loil absorbing material leading Aintotlhe pipe-connecting said receptacle with the reservoir.
