INDICATOR FOR MAGAZINES.

To all whont it my concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES IV. MoRPI-IY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Indicators for Magazines, of which the following is a specifica- An object of my present invention is to provide new and improved means whereby the exact number of shots or loads 1n the magazine of a pump gun or the like may be readily ascertained without the necessity of removing the magazine tube, which would cause the operator considerable inconvenience ;.or to facilitate the ascertainment of the correct number of shots or loads that have been fired or used from the original number placed in the magazine.

Another object of my invention is to provide such means as is pointed out above which may be constructed in a manner so as to be readily applicable to all of the conventional forms of guns and rifles, and in fact any of the improved forms of weapons whereinthe shots or loads are contained in a magazine.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device that is especially designed for use in connection with guns or rifles that are employedfor target practice, so as to enable the operator, or the judges, such as the case may be, to accurately ascertain the number of shots or loads fired and the number of loads still remaining in the magazine. A still further object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device of the type in question that is extremely simple in construction, strong and durable, and highly practical from both the standpoint of the manufacturer and the standpoint of the user; and which, it is believed, may be manufactured at a minimum cost.

Various other objects and advantages will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.

These objects are accomplished by such means as are shown in their preferred form in the accompanying drawing, described in the following specification and then more specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings A in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 designates a rifle of a conventional type, in connection with which my invention, in the present embodiment, is shown. However it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to that specific form of rifle shown, since my invention, as has been before stated, is readily applicable in connection with approximately all of conventional types of repeating rifles.

The outer magazine tube 10 slidably receives an inner tube 11 that contains the loads or cartridges 12. The outer end of this inner tube 11 is slightly enlarged as at 13 whereby it may be readily turned and moved within the tube 10 when placing the same therein or removing it from the tube 10, and it also carries an upstanding lug 14 whichmay be engaged with a suitable slot in the tube 10 to lock it against removal. A stop 15 is mounted. within the tube 11 adjacent its outer end and has one end of the expansive spring 16 bearing thereagainst. The body of the spring 16 projects within a casing 17 that is slidably mounted within the tube 11, while its other end bears against the head 18 of the casing. v

In the present embodiment of my invention the tubes 10 and 11 are provided with a series of registering openings 19, the number of openings in each tube being determined by the number of loads that may be accommodated within the magazine. Consequently when the magazine, or rather the tube 11, is filled with the desired number of loads the casing 17 will lie in a position to close a number of the openings correspond ing with the number of loads in the magazine.
