FILE-SUPPORTER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 4, 1917.
Application filed December 24, 1915. Serial No 68,574.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. RAINES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vernon, in the county of Wilbarger and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pile-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of surgery, and more specifically to pile supporters.
The object of my invention is to provide a supporter to be worn by persons suffering from piles, especially the ailment known as protruding piles, wherein the ruptured membrane protrudes from the anus causing great pain, and also producing a condition which makes the trouble become worse. My device is designed to retain the ruptured portions Within the anus. thereby relieving the pain and giving the dilated membrane an opportunity to contract and assume its normal, healthy condition. It is a well known fact in medical science that if the rectum is dilated in the primary stages of cases of protruding piles, the parts will again become normal. The difliculty with ordinary types of dilators has been that they could only be retained by the wearer for a short period of time, or, if retained for any considerable length of time, the patient must be kept con fined. With my novel supporter, the patient may proceed with his business as usual, as it is adjustable to fit snugly and accurately, and is composed of a soft and relatively pliable non-irritating material.
Other objects of this invention not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be clearly understood from the detailed description and drawings forming a part of this specification.
Furthermore, this invention consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts more particularly described in the followingspecification and embodied in the claim appended hereunto and forming a part of this application.
Referring now to the drawing, which is merely illustrative of my invention, the figure is a perspective view of my supporter and adjustment means.
Referring further to the drawing, 1 designates a substantially triangular elongated body portion of my supporter, which is formed preferably of a fine quality of relativ'ely soft rubber. Said body ortion has no acute edges, but is rounded off at all points so as not to irritate the wearer. A projection 2 formed integral with and centrally upon said body portion, is made of the same material and is provided with a rounded top thereon.
An elastic suspender 3 is adapted to fit upon the shoulders of the wearer. Said suspender is crossed in the back portion thereof at 5, the ends being brought together and fastened to one end of the body portion 1 of the supporter. The front portion of the suspender is secured at the ends thereof to the other end of said body portion 1. A retaining member 6 is interposed between the suspender members upon the front portion thereof, said retaining member being adapted to hold the suspender members together so they will not slip from the shoulders of the wearer. Adjustment members 7 are mounted upon the suspenders whereby they may be shortened or lengthened.
The rear portion of the suspenders are formed of separate pieces which are secured together by the conventional button fastenin 8.
The utility, adaptability, and advanta es of my improved form of pile supporter being obvious, it is unnecessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.
Having now described and pointed out the new and useful features of my invention, I do not limit myself to the shape of certain parts where the shape is not essential nor.
do I restrict myself to the exact details of construction shown and described but mean and intend to claim all equivalents and variations thereof not departing in principle from my invention and falling within the purview of the appended claim.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A pile supporter consisting of an elongated flexible body portion, a rounded flexible projection formed integral with and centrally on said body portion, the said projection being reduced in diameter at the junction of the projection with said body portion thus permitting flexing of the projection relative to the body portion for a purpose specified.
