Be it known that 1, VINCENT DoBBINs, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of ,New York and State of New. York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Slicing- Machines, of which the following is a specification. s
This inventionA relates to slicing machines and has more especial reference to anv improved machine of the reciprocatingcutter type. y v
The invention has for its dominant object to provide novel cutter operating means for the machine, the said means converting rotary motion into reciprocating motion which f is imparted to the knife for operating the view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the costk of production small, and efficiency and operation high. l V
All of the foregoing togetherwith additional advantageous details and arrangements of parts ofthe preferredembodiment of my invention will be clear from the specific description hereinafter contained, when read in connection with the accompanying drawings forming parts hereof wherein said embodiment of the invention is illustrated for the purpose of facilitating a full understanding of the present impro'vements.
In the drawings there is shown a side elevation of my improved machine with parts thereof broken away and shown in section.
Similar characters of reference are employed in the above described view to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now more specifically to the said figure, there is provided a table or bed designated 1, which bed is provided with a plurality of parallel slots 2 and 3, the purpose of which will be subsequently apparent.

A plurality of rock arms 4 and 5 are pivotally mounted in bearings 6 secured to-the under face of the bed 1 and have their upper extremities slotted, while the lower extremity of the former is slotted as at 7 and is provided with Van apertured lug 8. Carriages 9 are arranged upon cross heads 10 slidably mounted in the slotted portions 6 of the rock arms 4 and' andare receivedin diagonally disposed guide ways formed by parallel arrangedstandards 11, it of course being understood that oppositely disposed pairs vof the diagonally arranged standards 11 are employed in order that the opposite extremities of the cross heads with their respective carriages 9 may bel received. therein. A carriage 13 is slidably mounted upon the bed 1 and is engaged by a pivotal arm, which arm extends downward into engagement with theapertured lug 8 formed upon 'i the lower extremity ofthe rock arm 4. An arm 15 is also pivotally connected to the apertured lug 8 upon the lower lextremity of the rock yarm 4 and extends into pivotal engagement with theapertured lowerextremity of the remaining .rock arm 5, and thus'bracesl the lower extremities of each of thel said rock arms, ,thereby insuring synchronous movement rof the upper extremities of the same. l y l It is to be noted that the arm extends upwardly through the slot Qformed in the bed 1, while the rock arms 4 and 5 project Y. through the slots 3 therein.
. kA- crank shaft 16 is extended transversely of the bed 1 and has its extremities mounted in suitable bearings, while the intermediate portion thereof is received in the slotted extremity 7 of the rock arm 4 whereby to impart oscillatory movement thereto upon rotation of the same. A balance wheel 17 is keyed to one extremity of the crank shaft 16 as at 18 and is provided with a handle 19 whereby the transmitting of rotary motion to the crank shaft will be facilitated.
1n operation, upon rotation of the balance wheel 17 and the shaft 16, the upper extremities of the rock arms 4 and 5 will be oscillated and will cause reciprocatory movement of the cutter 12 by reason of its connection with the cross heads 10 as mounted in the Iinclined guide ways. Simultaneous with the reciprocation of the cutter 12 in one will cause a shearing cutdui'ing"the slic'ingm of the material arranged thereon. By form;
