Description

JOHN" LISTIAB', OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO,
SNAP-HOOK.
I Speoifleation of Letters intent.
Patented Apia 24, 1917.
Application filed June 21, 1918. Serial No. 104,974.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN LISTIAK a citizen 0f the United States, residing at oungstown, in the county of Mohoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and usefnl Improvements in Snapllooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inven tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whioh it eppermins to make and use the'szime.
This invention relates to new and. useful improvements in snap hooks and the principal object of the invention is to provide a snap hook particular vy adapted for use in hanging scaffolds 21115 the like which is so construct-oil to hrevent a rope or chain from accidentally becoming disconnected.
Another objeot. of the invention is to provide a snap hook hevin a lever actuated to'nguewhich. tongue is adopted to oh so the snap hook and to provide a spring means for normally tending to move the tongue into closed position.
Another object of l ke invention to provide a lever having an offset extension on its active and which isminpted to engage a downwardly extending finger formed at the rear end of the inngfi'lo wlneh finger is rounded at its end, to reduce friction,
A still further object of the invention to provide a tongue which may be animated by the lever in Mich n, manner to give ihe' maximum amount or" movement to the tongue with a minimum gun-innit o? movement, of the lever.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists inthe novel combination and arrangement of parts which will-lie fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing. in which Figure l is a side view partly in section of a snap hook constructed in accordance with this invention showing the tongue in closed position, and
Fig. 2- is nvv View similnr in Fig; 1. showing the tongue in open position.
Referring now to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the body of the snap hook provided at one end with 'lhe loop 2 the-opposite and of the horly being formed with the hook member 3. The body 1 is provided with the longitmlinal groove 4 which terminates at its forward end in the rationing '5 for the ficcommoflotio-n of ihe/extonsion fingers on the lever and tongue which will is designated "by the numeral 7 and this tongue 15 provided with the angnlo-rly ex tendmg arm 8 having the imverdly extend mg lug or finger 9 formed at its extreme rear end, the lower ealge of which. is curved its at 10 to bear on the forwardly errteml ing finger of the lever which. will he more fully hereinafter described l spring 11 is arm l in norm i '7 tongue to close 1;) v 1 and to yielolnhly posit-ion Pivoted as at 12 within "he grow a point near its form} ml the 13 provided at its extreme i'orvxa that in use the snap hook is imznipolete. 1 the orrin'mry manner arranged is that n cord or linlr may be aim/ u the snag) hook witlioni; mime;

It will thus be seen that. a; partieulm'iy simple and (lural'rl-e strua'mre is provided which may be easily manipulufned and the wen r on the port will redhead to a minimum While in the foregoing there E-ms been A snap imnlc comprising :1 body :1 hunk.
