ELEomoTHEnAPEU'rIc REJUVENATOR.
l Specification of Letters Patent. Patnted Feb. 13, 1917.
Application filed September 18, 1916. Serial No. 120,799;
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES M. 'SWINGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Electrotherapeutic Rej uvenator, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to an apparatus for the treatment of diseases and the like, and aims. to provide a novel and 1 improved electro-therapeutic rejuvenator for the organs of regeneration, for treating diseases of those organs, and for diseases and; afi'ections of parts adjacentto those organs. especially, and also for thetreatment of all other diseases Where osmotic, c'ataphoretic and physiologicalaction may be stimulated and corrected under the influence of mag netic force. I
It is the object of the invention to provide a device of the nature indicated utilizing electrical current in connection with a suitable medicament for the treatment of diseases, the medicament being applied to the tissues by the assistance of the electrical energy which produces heating, magnetic and therefore osmotic and cataphoretic effect.
It is also the object of the invention to provide an implement of*the nature indicated composed of a novel assemblage of the component elements, the parts being readily assembled-and separated, and the device heing comparatively simple,.compact and inexpensive in construction, as vWell as being convenient, practical and eflicient in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combi nation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of' the invention herein disclosed can be made Within the scope of what is claimed without de-- parting from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is'illustrated in. the accompanying drawing, wherein:-
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the device, portions being shown in elevation. F FigQ is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3 is a sectional detail to show the grooves or recesses in the'shell.
In carrying. out the invention, there is 'provided a core 1 of softiron or other magnetic material, upon which is mounted a resist- :or other insulatin the coil 2 and dis 5 and has its outer end ance coil 2 comprising a winding of insu-" lated wire. An annulus 3 of hard rubber or .other insulating material is threaded upon the inner'end of the core 1 and one end of the coil 2 rests thereagainst, while a disk 5 of hard rubber or other insulating material is secured to the outer end of the core 1 by means of a securing screw 6, and bears against the opposite end of the coil 2, said coil being held upon the core 1 between the annulus 3 and .disk 5. 'The terminals 4 of the' coil 2 extend through suitable apertures provided in the annulus 3.
A tubular shell or case 7 of hard rubber material is slipped over closed and preferably rounded, while the inner end 8 of the-shell 7 is open, and is threaded upon the annulus 3, whereby to hold said shell in place 'to house or inclose the il. The shell 7: is provided tail grooves or superficial recesses 9 in its pe riphery which can extend longitudinally, spirally or in any other direction, for receivinga suitable medicament;
A sleeve or reducer-10 of hard rubber or I other insulating material has its larger end threaded upon the annulus 3 and abutting against the open end-8 of the shell 7; the
terminals 4 being slackened' and housed within the sleeve 10. The plug 13 can be attached to any suitable connectlng member,
for supplying thecoil 2 with electrical en- 'ergy, for heating the device to the desired temperature, and for creating a magnetic field to assistin the curative properties of the device. lhe current can be controlled by a suitable rheostat, and the device can be manipulated in any suitable manner, ac-
cording vto the circumstances. The medicamentapplied to the grooves 9 will be heated by the electrical energy and by the heat of .the tissues, and osmotic action is rendered 1 both rapid and agreeable under the influence of magnetism.
-llhe-device"can also be used for the treatment of ulcers or sores on ordinary surfaces of the body, and a number of the mstru- 2. An electro-therapeutic rejuvenator. em-
bodying a shell having superficial medicament holding recesses, and'an electrical heating coil inclosed therein. 7 y
An electr c-therapeutic, rejuvenator embodying a core, an electrical heating coil mounted-thereon, members attached to the ends of the core with the coil between'them, and a shell slipped over said coil having superficial medicamentholding recesses and having an open end attached to one of said members. 5
4. An electro-therapentic' rejuvenator em- .bodying a core, an electrical heating coil mounted thereon, members'attached to the 7 ends of the core withthe'coil between them,
a shellsli ped over said coil having super:
*ficial medicament holding recesses and havane I ing an open end. attached to one of saidi' members,; the other end ofsaid shell being closed, and the terminals of the coil extending through "said member.
5. An electro-therapeutic rejuvenator em- .bodying -a core, an, electrical heating coil mounted thereon, a member upon said core at one end of .said coil, the terminals of the coil extending through said member, and a shell slipped over said coil having superficial medicament hol ing recesses and having an open end attached to said member.
6. An electro-therapeutic rejuvenator rem-1 bodying a core, an electrical heating coil mounted thereon, a member upon-said core atone end of said coil, the terminals or the coil extending through said member, a medicament holding shell slipped'over said coil and having an open endtattached to said member, a member having a pair of contact members to which the terminals of the coil are, connected, and a sleeve disposed between and connecting the first and second mentinned members. L
7. An elective-therapeutic rejuvenator em bo'dying] a core, an electrical heating 001i thereon, a member: upon the'core at one end,
of the coil, the terminals of the coil extending through saidmember, a medicament holding shell slipped upon the coil and having an open end engaged upon said member, a second member having a pair ot-binding posts to which said terminals are connected,
and a sleeve having a larger end engaged upon the first-mentioned member and a smaller end engaging the second mentioned;
member, said sleeve housing -the binding posts and terminals of the coil.
In testimony'that laim. the foregoing asmy own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
