Be it known that l, FRANCIS E. LAURAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of `Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain useful Improvements in Signal-Gauntlets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing..

This invention relates to improvements in signaling gauntlets, one object of the invention being the provision of a gauntlet, which is provided with and bodily carries an electric cell, an electric bulb, and a finger controlled circuit, whereby the bulb may be energized at pleasure, to provide a signal light, such gauntlet being especially adapted for the use of a chauffeur and operated to indicate his intentions as to steering his car.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a gauntlet the wrist covering portion of which upon the back is provided with a cell receiving pocket or receptacle, so that the cell will be out of the way when steering and manipulating the various con trol levers of a motor car, and will not produce any bulky portion to the gauntlet.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a novel arrangement of circuit wires and finger controlled switch members, whereby the closing of the fore finger and thumb will close the circuit, and as such members are normally separated when steering and operating the control levers, the circuit is normally open.

With the foregoing and other objects in view and which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter disclosed, the scope of the invention being limited only by what is claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a rear elevation of a gauntlet with the present invention applied, the thumb and fore finger being broken away to show the switch members.

Fig. 2 is a cross section through the cell holding pocket of the gauntlet.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the hand portion of the gauntlet provided with the skirt 11, and the thumb 12 and fore linger 13.

The switch members 14 and 15, are in the nature of rivets, the heads of which are exposed through the exterior of the thumb and forenger, and securelv riveted, as shown to the exterior material thereof, the two conductors 16 and 17, being connected to the respective members between the outer layer 18 and the inner layer 19 of the material, the conductor 16 being extended downwardly and into the cell pocket 20 secured to the inner s-ide of the skirt, and open at the wrist edge thereof. rlhe button 21 and the button hole 22, form a fastening means to close the pocket, or any other form of fastening may be used.

rlhe conductor 17 leads to the center contact 23, of the lamp socket 24, while leading from the socket is the conductor 25, which extends to the pocket 2O between the lining and exterior layer of the gauntlet. bulb 26 fits removably in the socket, and as the socket is extended through the opening 27 formed in the back of the gauntlet, the bulb when energized is readily visible.

ln order that the socket 24 may be prop erly supported in the opening 27, the flexible strap 28, preferably of leather is secured by rivets 29 to the outer layer of the gauntlet, and is attached centrally as at 30 to the socket. being short circuited, yet is given a flexible support to the gauntlet.

A cell 31 is removably mounted in the pocket 20, and is provided with the terminals 32 and 33 for detachable engagement with the two conductors 1G and 25.

With this construction the bringing together of the thumb and forelinger to close the switch members will close the electrical circuit and cause the energization of the bulb.

As the bulb is flexibly supported, there is less danger of breaking the same in striking an object, as the strap support will yield, while by mounting the cell in a pocket in the skirt and rear part of the gauntlet, the same is not in the way or cumbersome, as would be the case if placed under the wrist.
