Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. SARll-IIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hat-tiesburg, in the county of Forrest and State of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tie-Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tie clasps; and it has for its primary object the provision of a securing device of this character which will include cooperating clamping jaws between which an article, such as a. tie and the shirt of the wearer may be effectually clamped and the clasp held positively against accidental loss therefrom.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for effecting a positive clamping action of the companion jaws and for preventing the jaws from casually working from their clamped positions against the article.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be constructed without the use of retaining springs or the like.
\Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will behereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :.Figure 1 is a plan view of the clasp; Fig. 2- is a side view thereof; Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. el is asection on line 4-l. of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a section on line of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 4, showing a slightly modified form of the invention.
The clasp as shown in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, of the drawings comprises a main body member 1, which is constructed from a single piece of flat metal such as silver, gold or any other material that may be found appropriate for the occasion. The material forming the member is folded on itself so as to provide a relatively long fiat jaw 2 and a short extension 3, the latter being connected with the former through a curved portion 4. The jaw 2 is provided near its clamping end with spaced rows of gripping teeth 5, between which may be extended a single row of teeth 6 formed at the clamping ends of a movable jaw 7. The jaw 7 is extended in the direction of the curved connecting portion 4, and as illustrated it is provided with a. loop 8, which is alined with similar loops 9 on the portion 4 and pivotally connected thereto by a retaining pin 10.
In order to obtain a fixed clamping connection between the companion jaws 2 and 7 of the clasp and thereby insure the clasp against accidental derangement from the article with which it is connected, I provide an operating device in the form of a screw 11, which has pivotal connection at 12 with the jaw 7 adjacent the point of pivotal connection of the latter with the portion This screw is extended through an elongated slot 12 in the extension. 3, as shown in l. A nut'13 is swiveled at 1% to the extension 3 of the body member 1, and as illustrated said nut threadedly receives the screw 11 therethrough so that when the nut is rotated the jaw 7 may be moved with relation to the companion jaw 2 of the device and the surfaces 5 and 6 advanced into effective clamping contact with the article. The nut 13 is provided with a hand wheel or actuating projection 15, which is projected beyond the sides of the clasp so that its peripheral surface may be grasped between the lingers of the hand and the nut turned as desired.
In either one of the different forms of the device, means are employed whereby the article may be applied with facility to the apparel with which the article is intended to be used upon. By operating the adjusting screw, the two jaws of the device may be brought into operative clamped positions or released. positions, as the occasion may demand and when in the former position the screw acts as means to prevent casual separation of the two jaws as is obviously understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as claimed.
