provide a tub mat of the character described which is simple as to constructlon, inexpensive to manufacture and constructed so that suction or vacuum cups are provided on the,

under side thereof to hold it against slipping.

Other objects and advantages will appear from the subjoined detail description.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.

Figure l is a top plan view of a bath tub showing the mat in position; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the mat.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a bath tub of the ordinary type and 2 my mat.

The mat 2 is preferably formed of a relatively thin, soft, flexible and resilient body portion, and ,while shown in an oval shape may be of any shape, size or thickness desired. The upper surface is roughened or corrugated as at 3 and the corrugations may be formed by ribbing or indenting the material of which the mat is formed. Various ornamental designs may be formed by arrangement of the corrugations as will be seen with reference to the drawings.

A depending peripheral resilient flange or rib 4 is formed on the mat and is adapted to engage the tub or other surface upon which the mat is placed to form a suction or vacuum cup and hold the mat against slipping. There are provided other suction cups which are formed by circular or other shaped resilient ribs or flanges depending from the under face of the mat, for example, as shown in the accompanying drawings, a large cup 5 is located in the center of the mat and groups of smaller cups 6 are formed on opposite sides of the cup 5.

In use, the mat is placed on the bottom of the tub and as it is flexible will accommodate itself to the tub. The suction cup provided by the flange or rib 4 and the cups 5 and 6 w ll cause the mat to be held against slipp ng upon the tub bottom and also provide an cushions which will increase the resiliency of the mat so that it may serve as a soft and comfortable seat. This mat may be placed in position in the tub afteror before the water is run into the tub' and will not be effected or its grip upon the tub released by the presence of water in the tub. The leather. may sit upon the mat or step upon it in getting into or out of the tub and avoid slipping in this way. The .corrugated upper surface of the mat prevents the bather from .slipping relative to the mat.

In having the flange or rib 4 formed on the under face of the mat at the periphery thereof and the ribs or flanges forming the cups 5 and 6 located at the center and be tween the center and ends, the body of the mat will be supported in spaced relation to the bottom of the tub and the air cushions formed by the suction cups increase the resillency of the mat to the extent that a springy and soft seat is provided.

It is understood that the invention is not limited to the exact construction shown in the drawings and described above, but that deviations therefrom may be made within the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim:

1. A bath tub mat comprising a flexible resilient body having a depending, continuous resilient flange at the periphery thereof adapted to engage the bottom of a bath tub and space the body therefrom and a plurality of substantially circular flanges formed integral with and depending from the underface of the body and providing suction cups, all of said flanges having their lower edges located in the same plane.

A bath tub mat comprising a flexible. resilient body having a depending resilient continuous flange at the periphery thereof and a circular flange formed integral with the underface of the body approximately centrally thereof and other circular flanges formed'integral with the body on the underface thereof, said flanges, in combination with the body, providing suction cups, all of said flanges having their lower edges located in the same plane.

3. A bath tub mat comprising a flexible resilient body portion, a depending resilient flange formed integral with the body portion at the periphery thereof, a circular flange formed integral with the underface and body centrally thereof, said first-named flange being continuous and suction cups formed integral with the body on the underface thereof, said cups having their opened ends located in the same plane as the lower edges of the flanges.
