PACKAGE-SECURING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH C. Mo'r'r, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Great Neck, Long Island, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Securing Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to devices for securing or tying package boxes or bundles of various kinds and classes by passing a wrapping twine or cord around the package; and the object thereof is to provide im proved means for preventing wrapping twine or cord from slipping off or becoming detached from such packages.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ordinary package box provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 a back view of a securing device which I employ in connection with the wrapping twine or cord. Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modification; and, Fig. 4 a view showing my improvement applied to a soft bundle or package wrapped with ordinary wrapping paper.

In Fig. l of the accompanying drawing I have shown at a an ordinary oblong rectangular package composed of cardboard, or any suitable material, and around which is passed a wrapping twine b and, in the construction shown, the wrapping twine is passed around the box longitudinally thereof in two different positions, or around the sides and ends and around the top and bottom and ends.

the end of the package. Before placing the tab under the cord or twine the back thereof 1s molstened and when said tab is moved into the position shown in Fig. l, or to the end of the package and at a corner or corners thereof, the tab is pressed down on and securely sealed to the package, while the twine or cord fits in the notch or recess 0 and this prevents the twine or cord from shppmg off the package and securely retams said twine or cord in position.

Any desired number of the tabs may be employed in connection with the package and, 1n Fig. 1, two of said tabs are shown in full lines and two are indicated in dotted lines.

In Fig. 3, I have shown a modification involving a rectangular box-shaped package (Z wrapped with paper 6 and secured by a twine or cord 7 which is passed around the package in opposite direction and, in this form of construction, I have shown a tab 9 which is approximately S-shaped in form and provided at both ends with a notch or recess 9 and at the opposite sides with deep transverse and reversally curved recesses g and g which terminate in circular openings 9 It will be understood that the back of the.

tab 9 is gummed or provided with adhesive material, the same as the tab 0, and in the use of this device after the twine or cord has been passed around the package-the tab g is connected therewith by first passing said twine or cord into one of the recesses g and then turning said tab so that the twine or cord will enter the other recess g*, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, after which the tab is pressed down and secured to the package in,

the same manner as in using the tab 0. When the tab 9 is placed in position, the cord or twine also enters the notches or recesses g and this assists in retaining the cord on the package.

In Fig. 3, the tab 9 is shown in the middle of one side of the package but said tab may be used at any desired point on the package either at the end or ends, as shown in Fig. 1, or on the sides, top or bottom thereof.

In Fig. 4:, I have shown a ,soft package 72. wrapped with paper or other suitable material and around which is passed a cord or twine i in connection with which one of the tabs 9 is employed, and it will be understood that two or more of the tabs 9 may be employed in connection with the package shown in Fig. 4, and the cord or twine i may be passed around said package in any desired manner, or in both directions, and when the tab 9 has been secured to the pack age 71 and connected with the cord or twine t' in the manner shown and described said cord or twine will not work off of the package.

The tab or tabs 9 are preferably provided in the central portion thereof and in the back thereof with a groove 9 to receive the cord or twine, and it must be understood that my invention is not limited to any particular form of the tab or tabs, two different forms of which are shown, nor to any style, shape or form of package, and my said invention, or particularly that form shown in Figs. 3 and 4, is particularly applicable to round, or approximately round bodies, bundles, or packages of either soft or hard material.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The herein described means for holding a wrapping cord on a package, consisting of a semi-rigid flat tab of fibrous material, provided on one side with an adhesive substance adapted to be moistened for securing the tab to the package, said tab be ing provided at one of its edges with a recess to receive the cord and prevent its slipping laterally off the package.

2. The herein described means for holding a wrapping cord on a package consisting of a tab of fibrous material and the back of which is gummed to provide for the securing of the tab to the package, said tab being provided in opposite side edge portions thereof with inwardly directed slots or recesses which merge into holes or openings whereby a cord can be passed into said holes or openings from opposite sides of the tab and held from displacement by the portion of the tab lying between said holes.

The herein described means for holding a wrapping cord on a package, consisting of a tab of fibrous material, the back of which is gummed to provide a means for securing the tab to the package, said tab being provided at opposite side edge portions thereof with inwardly directed slots which merge into openings, whereby a cord may be passed into said openings from opposite sides of the tab and held from displacement by the portion of the tab lying between said openings, said tab being also provided at its ends with notches, in which said cord rests.
