. To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY K. UYEoA,a citi-v zen of the United States, residing at Cres sey, in the county of Merced and State of "California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Napkins, of which the fol lowing is a specification.

This invention relates to a catamenial sack, and has for its objects to provide a device of this character which may beconveniently applied to or removed from the person; one wherein portions'of the device will form guard aprons to conceal the opposite ends of the napkin and prevent the menstrual discharge from touching the outer garments of the wearer, and one wherein the napkin will beflpositively held against derangement.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which may be thoroughly cleaned and main tained ina highly sanitary condition.

The device comprises a main body portion 1 of fabric material formed to provide a relatively broad back portion and guard 2 having a waist line hem 3 in whose opposite ends are secured the forward ends of companion tapes 4, the latter being adapted to be extended around the waist of the wearer andtied as at 5, whereby the devicewill be operatively supported as shown in Fig. 1 of mg a guard extension 7 thereon whose transverse edge is secured between the adjacent portions 8 of a sustaining tape 9, the latter having its opposite ends extended beyond the sides of said portion 7 and provlded with button holes 10 to receive the buttons 11-at the sides of the portion 2, as shown.

The napkin supporting portion-6 of the device has secured thereto a sheet 12 of impervious material which is adapted to receive thereon'a napkin 13 of absorbent ma'- terial. The sides 14 of the portion 2 graduallymerge into the sides ofthe portion 6,

whereby guards 15- are presented immedi ately at the forward end of the napkin when the device is applied as illustrated in Fig. 1. These guards are adapted to fold up against the limbs of the wearer and to causecorners of the napkin to impinge against the limbs so that the napkin will be correctly support ed and positively held against shifting laterally under movements of the body. In this manner it is seen that the napkin and the supporting portion 6 are held operatively associated relatively without the use of pins or like fastenings; that the napln'n can be readily removed when soiled, and that it may be worn without liability of its touching the outer garments of the wearer. Elastic thigh-straps 16 are secured at 17 to the portion 6 of the device and as shown said straps are adapted to be looped about the thighs and buttoned to the portion 6 as illustrated at 18 whereby to assistthe purposes of the hereinbefore described waist line connection toward operatively sustaining-the article upon the person.

The tape portion 9 ofthe extension 7 is disposed below the plane of the waist engaging tape 9 when thearticle is in the supported position shown in Fig. 1. A button hole 19 is formed in the extension 7 at a point immediately between the tape extremities of the tape 9,. receiving the button 20 at the lower end of a'supporting tape 21. The supporting tape is provided at its upper end with a loop 22 through which the waist engaging tape 4 is adapted to extend whereby the extension 7 of the napkin support will be properly held against the body when the device is worn. By connecting the lastnamed portions together in the manner just stated it is evident that the extension 7 may be readily connected with or disconnected from the supporting tape 21 so as to facili tate connecting the napln'n with or the removal thereof from the supporting portion 6 while the device is arranged upon the person. v

- I claim:

A device of the class described, consisting of a broad back portion having relatively long edges adapted for connection, a pair of securing tapes secured at one end to the upper corner of. said last named edges, and adapted to be tied tocause said edges to curve around, said back portion gradually decreasing in width to provide a relatively narrow napkin supporting portion, a susing said first named tape, and a button carried by said reinforcing tape, said sustaining tape having a buttonhole adapted for en 1o gagement with said last named button.
