To all whom it may concern:
Barberton, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spout Attachments for Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.-
This invention relates to spout attachments for bottles. v
The object of the invention is to provide a sim' ly constructed and efficient device of this 0 aracter which may be quickly applied to or removed from a bottle and which is more especially designed for use in connection with milk bottles.
Another object is to provide an attachment of this character to be applied to the mouths or necks of bottles of various shapes and sizes, and when so applied will: direct the pouring of the liquid from the bottle and serve to catch the drip and prevent it from soiling the neck or side of the bottle and the article on which said bottle may be laced.
lVith these and other objects in view, the
invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a portion of milk bottle showingthis improved spout attachment applied; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 9.2 of Fig; 1; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In the embodiment illustrated, this-improved detachable spout is shown applied to a milk bottle B although obviously it may be applied to the mouth or neck of any other bottle to which it is adapted.
The spout constituting this invent on comprises a crescent-shaped plate 1 wh ch may :be constructed of any suitable material, such as celluloid, sheet metal, or the like, an d 1s inclined downwardly and inwardly from its outer toward its inner edge as is shown clearly Fig. :3. The outer edge of this plate 1 is turned inwardly, being preferably rolled to provide a housing 2 which is designed to receive a reinforcing andsup-o porting member 3 here shown inthe-fo-rm of Belt known that I, ARCHIBALD M. EWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at projecting beyond the ends of the plate and.
in longitudinal alinement therewith, and providing resilient clamping arms for engaging the opposite sides of a bottle neck for reliably securing the spout in engage-- ment'therewith. These arms are provided at their terminals with loops or eyes- 4 to facilitate the clamping engagement and retention of the attachment with the bottle neck and prevent them from injuring the hands of the user or any object with which they may come in contact.
In the use of this improved attachment, the resilient clamping arms of the U-shaped member 3 are sprung into engagement with the opposite sides of a bottle neck adjacent the bead B thereof with the edge of the plate 1 disposed in contact with said bead and forming a substantially liquid-tight engagement therewith, said plate being in clined downwardly and inwardly toward the bottle as shown in Fig. 3 to form a drip catch as well as to facilitate the pouring v r of the contents of the bottle.
From the above description, it will be obvious that this attachment while simply constructed, may be quicklv and readily applied to a bottle neck and is easily removed for cleaning or other purposes.
I claim as my invention: 1. A detachable bottle spout comprising a crescent-shaped plate having a reinforcing r ranged parallel with each other and adapted to clampingly engage opposite sides of a bottle neck. y
