PAPER-BOARD BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented nee. *7, m5.
Application filed April 14, 1915. Serial 1W0.'21,205.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B; STREIT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Tmprovement in Paper-Board Boxes, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specification.
' This inventlon relates to paper-board boxes and comprises an improved and cheaper display box. f
The features of this invention are the simplicity of the construction and the provision of a device for guiding the tray and at the same, time preventing its tipping, which will not interfere with the use of a telescopin cover.
In the drawings,Figure 1 is a perspective of one form of my invention, Fig. 2
is a cross section of the same box showing the telescoping cover in place. Fig. 3 is a detail of the guiding clip. Fig. i is a detail in perspective of the two partitions used in the form shown in Fig. 1 showing how they join. Fig. 5 ,is a perspective of a paper-boardbox embodyin a modified form of my invention. Fig. 6 1s a longitudinal section of the same.
The box comprises a fixed or basic boxlike section a. Either on the inside (form shown in Fig. 1) or on the outside (form shown in Fig; 5) are glued orotherwise fastened at the two ends, the walls 6. Portions of these walls b project above the end walls of the box-like section a. The projecting portions serve to support and guide the movable tray 0. At one side of the ends of the walls I) (in the rear as shown in the drawings) are located guiding clips d which are here shown in the form of arrow heads having at their bases prongs e which may be caused to engage in the end walls to secure the clips in place. The arrow portion of the clip is bent over into the movable tray c. Underneath the guiding clips (Z and extending from end to end in the lower box-like section I preferably place a rectangular paper-board tube f which acts in conjunction with the clips 03 to prevent the tray c from tipping up with respect to the boxlike fixed section a when the tray has been drawn out to extreme position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5. I. use a broad-headed clip to afford a wide member to engage with the side wall of the movable tray and which In conjunction with the paper tube or any other support prevents-the tipping up of the movable tray with respect to the fixed box-like section when the tray is drawn out to extreme pos1t1on.'
When the walls I) are placed on the inside of'the box-like section w it is advisable to provlde' an arrangement of partitions g which not only act as partitions ordinarily do, but engaging with the bottom of the movable tray, prevent that from "being tipped with respect to the lower fixed section a. The upper edges of the ends of the box-like section a form a shoulder i upon which may rest the cover i which forms a telescoping, cover-in which the depending walls of the cover come flush with the walls of the box. This form'of guiding clip is peculiarly adapted for use with a cover as it is flat and so embedded in the walls I) that it presents scarcely any projection to interfere with the operation of the cover. With the walls I) secured to the outside of the box-like portion a, theshoulders h-afl'ord a guide for the bottom of the movable tray 0 and no partitionis necessary as in the form shown in Fig. 1. However, the cover i will not fit to the box-likeportion so that the clip secured to each projecting end wall portion, and a movable tray secured to the above the ends of: the box-like portion, a
projecting end wall portions by the inside I legs of the clips being bent over inside of the end walls of the said movable tray.
'2. The combinationof a box-like section having projecting wall portions projecting above the ends of the box-like portion, a clip secured to each projecting end wall portion, a movable tray secured to the projecting end wall portions by the inside legs of the clips being bent over inside of the end paper tube secured in the boxdike por ion at one side, clips secured to the pnojecting end wall portions above the said paper-board tube, and a movable tray secured to the box- .like section by the inside legs of the clips being bent over inside of the end walls of the said tray.
4. The combination of a box-like section provided with projecting end Walls, a rectangular paper tube secured in one side of the box-llke portion, clips secured to the projecting end wall portions above the rec tangular paper-board tube, a movable tray secured to the box-like portion by the said clips having their legs bent over on the inside of the end Walls of the said tray, and guiding means under the movable tray.
' 5. The combination of a box-like section, a Wall secured to each end of thebox-like section, means at one side of the box-like section for supporting a member thereabove, a slidable tray, guiding means below the tray, and clips secured to the sides of the wall members secured to the box-likesection ends and above the supporting means, the said clip ends being bent over to engage With the insides of the end Walls of the tray.
In testimony whereof, I sign this application in the presence of a witness.
' GEORGE B. STREIT. Witness:
STUART C. BARNES.
