ELITE-CLEANER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SoLoMoN A. SoULE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frances, in the county of Pacific and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Flue-Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to flue cleaners, and aims to provide a flue cleaner of novel and improved construction.
It is the object of the invention to construct a flue cleaner solely from wire cable, in order that its construction will be of utmost simplicity as well as being comparatively inexpensive, and whereby the flue cleaner will be thoroughly practical and eflicient in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the peculiar construction or formation of the device as hereinafter described, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved flue cleaner. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view thereof taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention, there are employed a plurality. of sections 1 of wire cable. These sections 1 may constitute a single length of cable prior to the formation of the cleaner, in which event the cable is doubled a number of times. However, the sections 1 may be separate, they being cut from a wire cable.
The sections 1 are welded together from one end to a point intermediate their ends, to provide a solid shank 2 of circular cross section. The cable sections 1 are welded together inorder that those portions of the cable sections constituting the shank will be integral. The surface of the shank is smooth, and the shank is of rigid construction. The end of the shank 2 is provided with a threaded portion 2 for attaching the Specification of Letters Patent.

device to a staff or other appliance for manipulating the cleaner within the boiler flues. The other ends of the cable sections 1 are also Welded together to provide a solid tip 3, which is pointed. The end portions of the cable sections 1 are thus welded or secured together to provide the shank and tip, respectively, and those loose portions 4 of the cable sections between the shank 2 and tip 3 are bowed apart, to provide the cleaning head and are twisted or bent into spiral shape.
Each of the cable sections 1 comprises a plurality of wire strands 5 which are twisted tightly together, and the other or exposed portions of the strands 5 extend approximately longitudinally of the implement, as indicated at 6 in Fig. 1. Thus, the outer or exposed portions of the strands 5 will serve to effectively scrape the interior of the flue when the cleaner is rotated within the flue.
The portions 4cwhich are bowed or curved apart are comparatively firm to maintain their shapes, but are sufliciently resilient so that the portions 4: may be compressed when the cleaner is introduced into the boiler flue and whereby the portions 4 will properly engage the walls of the flue.
The cleaner is employed in the ordinary manner for cleaning boiler fines and the like, and serves its office in a most efiicient and practical manner. It will be evident that the cleaner is constructed solely of the cable sections, and may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost. It is only necessary to weld the end portions of the cable sections together, and then to properly form the portions 4 between the welded portions, in forming the flue cleaner from the cable sections.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A flue cleaner comprising wire cable sections secured together to provide a shank and tip, each section comprising a plurality of strands twisted tightly together, and the sections having outwardly bowed portions between the shank and tip.
2. A flue cleaner comprising wire cable sections welded together to provide a shank and tip, and having outwardlv bowed and spirallv curved portions between the shank and tip, each section comprising a plurality of strands twisted tightlv together and the outer portions of the strands extending approximately longitudinally relative to the cleaner.
