BUCKLE.
Application filed November 17, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA B. Sirz, a cit1- zen of the United States, residing at Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in buckles or clasps and it has for its object the provision of a device of this character which is simple and inexpensive in construction and in which the meeting jaws of the device are so formed as to afford a positive hold upon the article grasped by the jaws without injury to the goods.
To this end and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel form of the meeting faces of the jaws or hinged members of the device and in the arrangement, combination and adaptation of parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a buckle or clasp embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view. Fig. is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the inside of one of the sections of the device. Fig. 5 is a like view of the opposing section, and Fig. 6 is an edge view of the meeting edges of the opposing jaws of the device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by numeral, 1 and 2 designate plates having respectively ears 3 and 9 struck up from the opposite edges thereof and provided with registering apertures,
Specification of Letters Patent.

forming bearings for the ends of the shaft 7. A coiled spring t is mounted upon said shaft and has ends 5 projecting at angles to the coils and fastened by means of solder 6 to the under surface of the plate 1 and one side of the device is provided with a suitable covering 2.
The member 2 of the device is shown as provided at its upper end with a slotted extension 8 designed as a means for attaching the device to suspenders, stocking supporting bands or other object in connection with which the device is to be used.
While I have shown and described a specific form of clasp, which in many particulars is similar to clasps of this general description, the essential feature of the invention resides in the means provided for securing the meeting edges of the device with surfaces such as will serve to securely retain the article held between the edges of the clasp and to retain the same against accidental displacement.
It will be noted upon reference to the drawings that the plate 1 is provided with a jaw 10 and the plate 2 with a jaw 10, made preferably of strips of rubber or other suitable material adapted for the purpose, the jaw 10 being provided with triangular outlined recesses 12 formed in the edge thereof, the walls 12* of the end recesses being beveled and that the jaw 10 upon the plate 2 is provided with a series of reversely arranged triangular recesses 11* and that the walls 11 at the ends of the series of recesses are beveled. WVhen the two plates are associated together in the manner shown in the drawings, the projections 11 intermediate the recesses are adapted to engage the recesses 12 and the portions 12 intermediate the recesses 12 engage the recesses 11, the beveled walls 12 and 11 coming in wedging contact with each other.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A clamp for supporting socks, etc., comprising two plates associated together, each provided with jaws, one of which jaws has a series of triangular recesses and the other a In testimony whereof I hereunto a'ffix my snnllar serles of reversely arranged recesses slgnature 1n presence of tWo wltnesses. formlng trlangular pro ec-tlcms lntermedmte the same Which interlock with one another, 7 CLARA SITZ 5 the end Walls of the recesses of the two jaws Witnesses:
