JAMES W. .ronNsoN; on NEW- BRU SWICK, N W JERSEY, ASSIGNOR ro JOHNSON & JOHNSON, OF NE BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY, A coaPom'rIoN 01 NEW JERSEY.
COLLAIPSIBLE TUBE.
Specification of lettersPatent. Patented'June 16, 1914:-
Application filed February 4, 1913. Serial No. 746,142.
Be it known that I, James W. JOHNSO a "citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Brunswick, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Collapsible Tube, of which the foliowing is a specification.
This invention relates to collapsible metal tubes, such as paint tubes, or, tubes for conta-ining and dispensing "dentifrice, shaving cream, and the like.
One ofhe principal objects is to insure the tube reaching the consumer in the form of an air-tight original package. I To this end I provide 'a puncturable hermetic seal protected by ascrew cap that is equipped with a spur or piercing point for puncturing or breaking said seal, and with a thread-,
ed wall or skirt that protects the point and also acts as a guide: and feed for the same.
The nature, characteristic, features, and
scope of the invention will more readily be understood from the following description.-
taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
F igure'l, is a perspective View of a tube embodying features of my invention; and
Figs. 2 and 3, are sectional views, illustrat-.
ing, respectively, the relative arrangement of the parts prior to and in the act of destroying the seal.
The neck 1, of the filled tube has its orifice or dispensing end 2, closed bya thin film 3, of metal, for example, soft solder.v
To protect the seal formed thereby and also forming a part hereof, wherein.
having a division wall or partition 6. .The
latter is formed or provided with an axial or endwise directed spur or point 7, which does not extend beyond its surrounding wallor skirt. It is evident that by reversing the cap and screwing it upon the neck of the tube the point will impinge and destroy the metal seal, as clearly to be seen in Fig. 3.
Eventually either end of the cap may constitute a closure for the tube.
Having described the nature and objectof the invention, I'claim:- I
'. A collapsible tube having its dispensing end or orifice sealed by a thin film'of metal,
and.-"having screw threads, and a double.
ended cap whereof both ends are internally threaded so as to take the threads of the tube, said cap having a medial part or division wall provided with a fixed endwlse directed piercing member adapted when the cap is screwed on the tube to pierce and. de-
stroy the seal and plug the. orifice.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' JAMES W. JOHNSON.
Witnesses: LESTER C. S'rEvENs,
FRANK W.- CONING.
