To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. Boemno, a citizen of the United States, residing at Junction City in the county of Geary and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade and Curtain Supports, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relatesto improvements in a combined shade and window curtain support.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a bracket or support adapted to be laterally adjustable upon a suitable base plate, thus permitting the use of shade rollers of various sizes without detaching or removing either the base plate or bracket from the window casing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be used as a combined shade roller and curtain support, or as a shade roller bracket independent of the curtain pole support, the latter, under certain conditions capable of being swung into an inoperative position, or entirely removed r as desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a supporting device of this character which will be reliable and simple in operation, strong and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and well adapted to the use to which it is designed.

With the above and various other objects in view the invention consists essentially in the provision of a specially constructed base plate adapted to be secured in any convenient manner upon the window casing, and a shade roller bracket adjustably mounted upon said base, and a curtain pole support detachably and adjustably secured to and supported by said bracket.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention the numeral 1 designates a portion of the window casing to which the base plate 2 is adapted to be attached on either side of the window. This base is preferably composed of any suitable material such as sheet metal, and has secured thereto through the medium of a plurality of screws 3, a pair of parallel uniformly spaced apart guide members 4:.

A shade roller bracket 5 is adjustably mounted upon the base plate by means of a neck 6 and enlargement 7 formed integral with the bracket and fitting within a recess 8 formed between the guide members 4 and the base plate 2, the said enlargement preventing the removal of the bracket when in normal upright position.

A thumb screw 9 extends diagonally through the bracket 5 and engages the outer face of one of the guide members A, the manipulation of which will permit lateral adjustment of the bracket throughout the entire length of the slot 10 formed between said members.

An extension 11 of the bracket is formed integral with and upon the outer extremity thereof, one face of which is provided with a recess 12 adapted to receive one end of the shade roller (not shown), while the opposite face is provided with an enlargement or abutment 13, the purpose of which will be hereinafter fully described.

A suitable pole support, comprising an arm 14; and a semicircular hook shaped portion 15, is adjustably and pivotally mounted upon the bracket 5 through the medium of a transversely extending pin 16 fitting within an elongated aperture or slot 17 provided upon the inner end of the arm. A recess or cut out portion 18 is provided upon one face of the bracket 5 for the purpose of receiving the said inner end of the arm 14. By this construction it will be seen that the support may be slid within the recess throughout the entire length of the elongated slot 17, the pin fitting within the slot limiting such sliding movement. When it is desired that the support should be swung into an inoperative position or upon its pivot pin 16, the same is forced to slide until the said pin is in engagement with the rear extremity of the elongated slot, in which event pivotal movement is rendered possible, the rear extremity of the support arm when in this position being free to turn without engaging the inner face or wall of the recess.

When in operative position the lower face of the arm 14 normally rests upon the abutment 13, the latter bracing as well as supporting the same rigidly and relieving the strain upon the walls of the recess 18 to a great extent as the said arm when in this position cannot be possibly turned upon its pivot pin as the rear extremity thereof, upon an attempt to turn the same, will immediately engage the said recess walls. To assemble the several embodiments of the invention the enlarge-ment of the bracket neck may be fitted within its recess before fastening the guide members in place; or if desired, an insertion is made possible by the provision of a cut out portion 19 in one of said members. An internally screw threaded opening 20 may be formed upon the lower portion of the semicircular or hook shaped member 15 for the purpose of receiving the screw threaded endof a brass rod commonly used for supporting lace curtains or the like.

From the above taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that minute lateral adjusting of the bracket and support is rendered possible by the manipulation of the set screw; that the shade roller bracket may be used independent of the pole support, by swinging the latterupon its pivot pin into an inoperative position or entirely removing the pin and detaching the support from said bracket; and that the support when in normal position is held against pivotal movement by reason of the engagement between the inner end of the arm and the recess wall.

It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily comprehended.

I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the arrangement and combination of the several parts, provided such changes fall within the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A device of the character described including a shade support member, a relatively slidable pole support member pivotally secured to said shade support, and means upon said shade support engaging said pole support to maintain same against both sliding and pivotal movement, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A device of the charactervdescribed including a shade bracket having a recess formed therein, an enlargement formed thereupon, a slidable pole support pivotally secured to said bracket and disposed in engagement with said enlargement, the one end of the said support fitting within said recess to normally maintain said support incapable of pivotal movement independent of the said bracket and means whereby said support may be given both a sliding and pivotal movement, as and for the purpose set forth. A device of the character described including a laterally adjustable shade support, the said support having a recess formed in one face thereof, an enlargement formed upon the said bracket, a laterally slidable pole support pivotally secured to said bracket, the said support being disposed for engagement with the said enlargement, the latter acting as a support therefor, the inner end of the said support adapted to fit within said recess so that the walls of the latter will normally maintain said support incapable of pivotal movement, and means whereby said pole support may be given both a sliding and pivotal movement, as and for the purpose set forth.

4. A device of the character described including in combination, a shade bracket having a recess formed in one face thereof, a stationary base plate to which the said bracket is adjustably secured, an enlargement formed upon the same face of the said bracket as the said recess, a slidable pole support disposed for engagement with the said enlargement, the said support having an elongated aperture formed therein, the one end of the said support being disposed within the said recess, a pin carried by the said bracket adapted to extend through the said aperture to'act as a pivot for the said pole support, the latter being thereby normally supported incapable of pivotal move ment independent of the bracket, as and for the purpose set forth.

5. A device of the character described including in combination, a shade bracket having a recess formed in one face thereof, a base plate to which the said bracket is detachably and adjustably secured, an enlargement formed upon the said bracket, the said enlargement adapted to project from the same face of the bracket as that within which the said recess is formed, a pole support carried by the said bracket, the said support having an elongated aperture formed therein, near one end thereof, the end of the said bracket within which the aperture is formed adapted to fit within the said recess, the said bracket being normally supported by the said enlargement, a pin carried by the said bracket adapted to extend transversely through the said aperture to provide a pivot for the said pole support, the said pole support adapted to be slid throughout the length of the said aperture to permit pivotal movement thereof independent of the bracket, the said pole support being normally supported incapable of pivotal movement, the wall of said recess forming an abutment against which the said pole support is normally disposed, as and for the purpose set forth.

6. In a device of the character described, the combination of a base plate having a pair of uniformly spaced apart guide members secured thereto, a shade bracket having a recess formed upon one face thereof, a head formed integral with said bracket adapted to fit within a recess formed between the said base plate and the said guide members for supporting and adjust-ably mounting said bracket thereupon, a pole support pivotally and slidably mounted upon said bracket, the inner end thereof being provided with an elongated aperture, a pin extending transversely through the said bracket and the said aperture for pivotally mounting the said support and for, limiting the sliding movement thereof, and an abutment formed integral with and upon one face of said bracket upon which the said support normally rests as and for the purpose set forth.
