IRVIN" F. MILEY, OF GREEN CASTLE, MISSOURI.
DOOR-FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IRVIN F. MILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Green Castle, in the county of Sullivan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in door fasteners for single and double doors and the like.
The object of this invention is to simplify devices of this character, rendering them simple in construction, comparatively cheap to manufacture, desirable and efficient in use and which may be readily operated.
WVith these and other objects in view my invention consists of a novel construction, combination, formation and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a double swinging door with my improved lock applied; Fig. 2 is a section through the door showing the operating handle in side elevation; Fig. 3 is a sectional perspective view of the angle iron showing the improved stop; Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the operating rods; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the clamps, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the guide brackets.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the drawing, 1 indicates swinging doors hinged to a suitable door frame 2. An angle iron 3 is bolted or otherwise suitably secured to the face, adjacent one edge of one of the swinging doors and has bolted adjacent to each end thereof suitable guide brackets 4. These guide brackets 4t each comprises a body portion which is bolted to the angle iron 3 and has laterally extending from each end thereof apertured portions 5 through which extends a locking bolt 6 which is provided with a cotter pin 6 which comes in contact with the laterally extending portion 5 of the guide brackets 4.

and which obviously limits the movement of said bolts.
A hand operating lever 7 is fulcrumed as at 8 to a bracket 9 which is suitably secured to one of the doors 1 and has secured at its intermediate portion rods 10 and 11, the'opposite ends of which are pivotally connected to bell cranks 12. The ends of the rod 11 and one end of the rod 10 are otl'set and threaded as at 13. The threaded otl'set portion of one end of the rods is extended through apertures formed in one arm of each of the bell cranks and is secured thereto by means of a nut while the opposite end of the member 11 extends through an aperture formed in the lever 7 and the opposite end of the lever 10 is provided with an eye 14 which fits over said offset whereby the rods may be secured to the same pivoted point of the lever by means of a nut.
Brackets 15 are suitably secured to the door by means of screws or the like and each has one end olfset as at 16 to provide a seat for the bell crank levers 12. A bolt extends through apertures formed in said clip and said bell cranks thereby forming a pivotal connection for said bell cranks.
Suitable rods 18 and 19 connect the locking bolts with the ends of the angle arms, and are also provided with threaded offset ends which form a pivoted connection between the same.
It will be seen from the drawing that when the doors are locked the lever 7 is in a vertical position and the bolts are located in the apertures formed in the plates 20 which are suitably secured to the frame of the door and upon lateral movement of the handle the locking bolts will be released thereby allowing the door free to be swung outwardly.
To prevent any inward movement of the doors a stop 21 is provided on one of the doors which engages the edge of the other.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A swinging door, an angle iron secured at one vertical edge of said swinging door, and having a flange adapted to engage an adjacent door, a bolt bracket mounted on each end of said angle iron, consisting of a strip of metal having a lateral projection pending therefrom and a pair of rods piv- 10 at eachend witlra bolt 11ole,--aslidablelbolt otedaatone end co saidleverhandle and at mounted in each bracket ua pair :ofidetachthe ether endeto said bellcrank' levers. able U-shaped brackets mounted on said In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 5 door, a bell crank lever pivoted tov-eachiof impresenee of two witnesses.
said brackets, a rod connected to each of 'IRVIN F. MILEY. said bell crank levers and to one of-said Witnesses:
bolts, a U-shaped bracket mounted on said H. G. HAWES,
