' citizen of the United States, residing at La ,Grange Park, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Washing-Machines,

of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates, more articularly,

to improvements in machines or washing; dishes; and my objects, generally stated, are

to provide a novel, simple and economical construction of dish-washing machine by which dishes may be quickly and effectively cleansed, by which the machine may be quickly charged with, and emptiedof, dishes, and the machine readily cleansed of accumulations therein, to render it sanitary, and,

In the operation of the machine, the shaft 13 is rotated to the right in Fig. 1 thus causing water to be carried up in the pockets 11, and upon passing abovethe center of the shaft, the water willdischarge upon the dishes (not shown) in the tray 9, for pera screen 23 of general cylindrical form, but

Below the tray 9 is provided atrou'gh 28, perforated as indicated at '29, and a apted to strain the water before it is again lifted by the water-elevating pockets 11, the

trough 28 extending lengthwise of the machine and being preferably supported, at flanges 30 thereon on the angle-irons 27, this feature of my construction serving to cause the water which is discharged upon the dishes in the tray9 to be comparatively free of the particles washed from the dishes.

It Will be readily understood from the foregoing that by constructing a machine in accordance with my invention, the dishes in the tray 9 may be not only quickly washed, but by reason of the elimination of any obstruction through the center of the machine, may be.packed into the tray 9 externally of the machine and the tray of dishes then placed in the machine as illustrated, by introducing the tray through the opening 6 in the shell 3, which is a matter of importance in a machine of this type, as it not only expedites the washing operation, but also minimizes the danger of breaking the dishes. Furthermore, the tray and strainer-trough 28 being removable, theseparts of the machine may be readily Withdrawn from the machine and cleaned, thus rendering the machine highly sanitary.

A It may be added that after the dishes have been washed,as hereinbefore explained, the washing-water is preferably drawn oil from the casing 3 through a discharge-pipe 31, which preferably empties into a sink, and

the casing 3 thereupon charged with rinsing water which is discharged upon the dishes in the tray 9 by the operation of the machine in the manner hereinbefore described.

Whilel have illustrated and described a specific embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be understood as intending to limit it thereto, as the same may be variously modified and altered without departing from the spirit of my invent-ion.

In a dish-washing machine, the combination of a housing containing an opening in one end through which the dishes to be washed are introduced into the housing, meansv for supporting the dishes in said housing, a head journaled in said housing at one end thereof, a rim-section rotatably supported in said housing at its opposite end and registering with saidopening, and water-lifting pockets connected with said rim-section and head for the purpose set forth. v

5. In a dish-washing machine, the combination of a housing containing an opening in one end through which the dishes to be washed are introduced into the housing,

means for supporting the dishes in said housing, a shaft journaled in said housing, a rotatable water-lifting-pocket-equipped member connected at one end with said shaft and containing an opening at its front end registering with the opening in said housing, and a stationary perforated member supported at one end on said shaft and upon which the water falls before it reaches the dishes, for the purpose set forth.
