Another object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use, and which can be quickly made ready for occupancy.

Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates, generally, my improved hammock, which includes a flexible body portion 2 which forms the bottom of the hammock and which is reinforced by the transverse slats 3. If desired, these slats may be placed at each end of the body portion so as to hold the same always in an ex-' tended position. A flap 4 is suitably secured to one of the longitudinal edges of the body portion 2 and is adapted to fold over said body portion and be attached to a foot piece 5 by means of the fasteners 6. This foot piece is secured along three of its edges to the body portion 2 but is unattached along its inner end so as to allow the occupant of the hammock to easily thrust his 'feet thereunder. The flap 4 isreduced by cutting away its nds, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, and is also formed somewhat wider at one end than at the other, so as to provide a roomy compartment for the sleeper. A

cover flap 7 is secured to the other longitudinal edge of the body portion 2 and is adapted to fold over the flap 4 and foot' piece 5 and be secured in its folded position by means of the fasteners 8, which extend along'one edge and one side of the body portion. The'flap 7 is longer than the flap 4 but has essentlally the same shape, being wide at its upper end and tapering toward the foot of the hammock. A head rest 9 extends transversely across one end of the body portion 2 and is secured in position by means of the fasteners 10. A head covering flap 11 is secured to the body portion at one end thereof by means of the fasteners-12, and is adapted to fold over the head of the occupant, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

A projecting flap. 13 is secured transversely of the flap 7 adjacent the foot end thereof and is slit, as at 14, to provide for the passage of the flexible members 15, which are secured to the body portion 2. It will be noted that the flap 13 overlies the openings 16 in the flap 7 but may be raised above the same to permit an easy insertion of the fasteners 8. The flexible members 15 are secured at their outer ends to rings 17, which may be connected to supporting hooks or which may be secured to any suitable supporting legs or similar structures.

The upper edges of the inner and outer .flaps are provided with suitable strips 18 of some soft material so as to protect the occupant of the hammock from the rough ed es of said flaps.

rom the foregoing it will be manifest that when a person is in the hammock and the flaps, which are formed of any desired water-proof material, are securely retained in their positions, a device of the character described is provided, which will protect said occupant from rain, snow, etc.

Itis to be understood that while I have shown. and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be limited to this exact construction, combination and arrangement of parts, but may make such changes as will fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is':

1. A sleeping hammock, comprising a body portion, a foot piece secured to one end of said bod portion upon the upper side thereof and orming a pocket, a relatively short under flap secured to one of the longitudinal edges of the body portion, an outer fla secured to the other longitudinal edge 0 the body portion and adapted to overlap said first mentioned flap and foot piece, a protecting flap secured transversely of the outer flap and overlapping the foot of the hammock, means for securing said flaps in position, and a head flap.

2. A sleeping hammock, comprising a flexible body portion rectangular in shape, reinforcing means extending transversely thereof, a foot piece forming an inwardly opening pocket, an inner flap adapted to be folded over the body portion and secured to said foot piece, an outer flap somewhat longer than said first mentioned flap and adapted to overlie the same, a protecting flap carried upon said outer flap, said protecting flap being transversely slitted to permit of the passage of flexible supporting members, and a head flap, substantially as described.
