Letters Patent Patented J 1111617,,1913- 1912. Serial No. 696,648.
To all/whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat 1, CHARLES ;L. ,GLAss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of-Kingsand'state of New York, have invented certain new and useful :Improvements in Combined Bathv and bathnozzle is.to be used.
Another object is to provide a combined bath and shower cock having a threaded shower connection which permits of the use of a shower attachment constructed entirely of metaLeIiminating the usual rubber slip connection and forming a permanent one piece shower, or should the showerhave a rubbertube a regular hose coupling may be attached to the rubber tube for engagement with the threaded connection of the cock.
With these and other objects inview, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, .and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully; described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shower bath and a portion of a bath tub showing the improved combination cock applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a front view of the cock and the lower end of the shower pipe; Fi 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the coc Fig. 4 is a central vertical section of the same; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the valve plug for controlling the direction of the water whereby the same is discharged from either the bath nozzle or the shower connection; Fig. 6 is an enlarged front view of the discharge valve casing of the cock showing the discharge valve stem in section and illustrating the means for limiting the turning movement of the valve.
My improved combined bath and shower cock, comprises a cold Water valve casing 1 and a hot water valve casing 2 which are connected by an integral mixing chamber 3 having an arched portion. The cold and with threaded coupling nipples 4-by means ofiwhichthey are connected to the cold and hot.water,supply pipes. In the valve casing ,1 is arranged a seat 5 with which is adapted to be engaged a cold water controlling valve =5, ;the -stem of which projects through a suitably packed opening inlthe cap 7 of the casing. zIn the valve casing 2 is arranged a seat 8 with which is adaptedto beengaged the hot water controlling valve 9 the stem of which projects .through a suitably packed opening in the cap 10 ofHthe casing. On the front or outer side. ofthe mixing chamber is arranged a dischargevalve casing 11 having a tapered wall and having in its upper side a discharge port 12. On the upper side of the valve casing 11 around said port is a-:threaded nipple 13. In the lower sideof the .valve casing immediately below or in=line with-the port 12 is a discharge port 14 having a nozzle 15-which'is adapted to discharge into the bathtub 16.
Operatively mounted in the valve casing 11 is a tapered plug valve 17 having in its inner end a :bore 18 which communicates withthe mixing chamber 3 and in one side of the plug and. communicating with the bore 18 is adiseharge port 19 which when the plug isturned in one direction is adapted to be brought into alinement wit-h the discharge ,port 1 o the bath nozzle 15 and .when turned in the opposite direction is brought into alinement with the discharge port 12 of the shower connection or nipple 13. The inner end of the valve is located opposite the arched portion of the mixing chamber and terminates flush with the end of the tapered wall of the discharge valve casing;
The valve 17 is provided with a stem 20 which projects through a cap 21 on the outer end of the valve casing 11 and has se cured to its outer end a handle 22 which is preferably formed of china, porcelain 01' other material which will not become readily heated and will be ornamental. On the stem 20 is arranged a stop pin 23 which, when the valve 17 is turned to bring the port 19 therein into alinement with the discharge port 12 of the shower connection, will engage a stop shoulder 24 on the cap 21, and which, when the valve is turned to bring the port 19 therein into alinement with the discharge port 14 of the bath nozzle, will engage a stop shoulder 25 arranged in the hot water valvecasings 1. and 2 are provided cap opposite to the shoulder 24. By providing the stop pin 23 and the stop shoulders 24 and it will be readily seen that the position of the discharge port 19 in the valve 17 can always be determined and the turning of the valve beyond the point for connecting the port with either of the discharge openings in the cock will be positively prevented Adapted to be permanently connected with the discharge nipple 13 of the cock, by any suitable form of threaded coupling 26 is a shower supply or conducting pipe 27 the lower end of which is here shown as being offset or projecting inwardly over the upper edge of the tub in position to be connected with the nipple. The pipe 27 is secured to a wall or any suitable support by brackets 28 and is connected at its upper end to the perforated head 29 and ring 30 which may be of any desired construction and design and to which may be attached the usual Water proof curtain (not shown).
By constructing and arranging the cock in the manner described it will be seen that the shower attachment may be permanently connected with the cock and will not interere with the use of the same for supplying water to the tub. It will also be noted that by means of the hot and cold water valves and. the mixing chamber connecting the same with the discharge valve, the temperature of the water discharged to the shower or to the tub may be perfectly regulated.
It is very essential that the arched-shaped central portion of the mixing chamber 3 be located directly opposite the open end of the bore 18 of the turn plug and that said "inner open end of the plug be flush with the converging walls of the cock, whereby the Having thus particularly described my in- I vention, what I claim is A combined bath and shower cock apparatus, comprising cold and hot water valve casings having valves arranged thereinito open and close the same, a mixing chamber connecting said casings and having an arched portion, a discharge valve casing connected with said, mixing chamber and having a tapered wall, a valve arranged in, said discharge valve casing and having therein a discharge port, the water receiving end of the valve being located opposite the arched portion of the mixing chamber and terminating flush with the end of the tapered wall. of the said discharge casing, and means to limit the movement of said valve.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
