Be it known that I, JOHN M. B'UCKLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Falls City, in the county of Richardson and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fire-Starters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved fire starter for employing natural gas or illuminating gas for starting fires in stoves and furnaces and comprises a hose for attachment to a gas jet, a nozzle attached to the end of the hose and provided with perforations to project jets of gas and air into a fire box of a stove or furnace, which, when ignited will serve to kindle the fuel in the fire box and start a fire therein and also includes a bulb.
and an elbow for attaching the conducting hose to the gas jet and a wire hook for supporting the nozzle in place in the fire box, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a gas fire starter con structed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail longitudinal sectional view, on a larger scale, of the nozzle. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the bulb and elbow for connecting the conducting hose to a gas jet.
In accordance with my invention I pro vide a nozzle which is here shown as a length of iron pipe 1 having an upturned discharge end 2 provided with a perforated diaphragm 3. A rubber conducting hose 3 is connected to a nipple 10 at the intake end of the nozzle, the nipple being held in place by a sleeve 4. The nozzle has air inlet 0penings 11 near its intake end to cause air to be mixed with the gas supplied to the nozzle by the pipe 3. A hook 5 is pivotally connected to the sleeve as at 12 and is employed to hold the nozzle in place in the fire box of a stove or furnace.
A tubular elbow 6 is connected to the other end of the conducting hose 3' and the rubber bulb 7 is connected to the said elbow by means of a clamp 8. This rubber bulb forms the connection with a gas jet as at S) and when the pipes have been thus arranged and the gas is turned on, the jets are projected in the fireplace by the nozzle and may be ignited and employed to set fire to the fuel therein so as to start the fire.
I claim The herein described fire starter comprising a flexible gas supply hose, a nozzle provided near its intake end with air inlet openings and provided with an upturned discharge end having a perforated diaphragm, a sleeve on the intake end of the nozzle, a nipple held in place by the sleeve and to which the gas supply hose is attached, and a hook pivotally connected to the sleeve.
