Description

A. HAMILTON.
PHYSIGAL DEVELOPER.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 28. 1911.

ALEXANDER HAMILTON, OF EDISON, ILLINOIS.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. April 28, 1911.
Patented Dec. 17, 1912.
Serial No. 624,507.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER HAMIL- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Edison, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Physical Developer, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a physical developer having a plurality of weights of novel construction, and the objects of my improvements are: first, to develop different parts of the body; second, to vary the weight of the developer; third, to make the parts interchangeable; fourth, to make a cheap and durable device and other features to become apparent from the description to follow.
My invention is designed to develop the muscles of the neck, spine and lower limbs by placing the same upon the head and walking about. Other muscles of the body are developed by placing the developer in a socket on the chest and walking about. The separate weights or parts of the developer are provided with handles so that they can be used as hand weights or dumb-bells, and detachable handles are provided to enable the separate weights to be used as Indian-clubs.
To describe my invention so that those versed in the art to which it pertains can make and use the same, I have illustrated it on the accompanying sheet of drawing forming a part of this specification, in which,-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a developer embodying my invention showing it as used on the head; Fig. 2 is a similarv view showing it as used on the chest; Fig. 3 is an enlarged central sectional view of the same; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one weight detached; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the same showing a handle attached to form an Indian-club.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The developer comprises a plurality of disk like weights 6, each provided with a central aperture 7, and a cross bar, 8, across the center of said aperture, 7 to serve as a handle. The opposed flat surfaces of the disks, 6, are provided with registering depressions and protuberances, 9, which pre vent the disks, 6, from moving out of alinement. The lowermost disk, 10, is preferably provided with a spherical depression 11, to fit on the head of a person and with a screw threaded concentric hole, 12, in its upper surface. A rod, 18, is threaded into hole 12 and is arranged to pass loosely through holes 14:, provided .in the center of the handles 8, and holes 15 are provided in the rod 13 so that a pin, 16, can be passed through the hole nearest the lowermost disk 6 and prevent the same from sliding off of rod 13 when the device is used in the position shown in Fig. 2. Each disk 6 is provided with a hole, 17, near its peripheral edge to secure a handle, 18, thereto by means of a bolt, 19, passing through said hole and registering holes provided in the handle 18 as shown in Fig. 5.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In a device of the class described a plurality of suitable disks each provided with a central opening and a handle or cross bar extending across said opening a depression on one side of each disk and a protuberance on the opposite side of each disk arranged to register when the disks are laid together.
2. In a device of the class described, a plurality of suitable disks each provided with a central opening and a handle or cross bar extending across said opening, a depression on one side of each disk and a protuberance on the opposite side of each disk arranged to register when the disks are laid together and a concave surface on the lowermost disk.
3. In a device of the class described, a plurality of suitable disks provided with a central opening and a cross bar or handle extending across said opening, the lowermost disk provided with a concave bottom surface and a concentric, screw threaded hole in its upper surface, each disk also name to this specification in presence of two provided with a concentric perforation subscribing witnesses this 8rd day of Authrough the cross bar and a rod having one gust, 1910, at Chicago, Illinois.
end screw-threaded to be threaded through ALEXANDER HAMILTON. 5 the perforations in said disks and secured Witnesses:
in the threaded hole in the lowermost disk. R. J. JAGKER,
In testimony whereof I have signed my CHARLES C. WHITSON.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five 'cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
