EDMOND 'IATAREK, or BUDAPEST, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY,
ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF to JOHAN VON BENKO DE ARKOSI, F DEBREGZEN, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE-MAGAZINE FOR IEIREAIR IlltIS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 29, 1912.
Application filed February 9, 1911. Serial No. 607,648.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDMOND TA'rnREK, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Budapest, in the Kingdom of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Cartridge-Magazines for Firearms, of which the following is a specification.
M The purpose of the invention is, to improve the construction of the magazine-so that its getting out of order through the influence of the humidity, the dust and dirt to which the magazine and its mechanism is exposed, is absolutely prevented. The im-- proved magazine further permits of a uniform feeding of the cartridges to the gun without special mechanical devices so that the construction in general is greatly simplified, the weight of the magazine being considerably reduced. The improved magazine further can serve as a rest for the fire arms whereby the aiming is greatly facilitated.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is shown by way of example.
F igure 1 is a longitudinal section through the butt end of a Browning revolver with the improved magazine; Fig. 2 shows in vertical cross section the magazine without its cover; Fig. 3 shows, on a larger scale, the spring actuated pressure device for the cartridges. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section on an enlarged scale of the parts in Fig. 3.
According to this invention the magazine 2 is enlarged by a drum shaped extension 4. This drum shaped extension 4. is a continuation of the magazine proper 2 wound in spirals. This outer drum shaped extension 4 of the magazine 2 can be used as a rest for the aiming drill. In the middle of the drum 4 an axle 6 is revolubly mounted which is acted upon by a spring 5. The axle 6 carries on one end under the cover 7 of the magazine a guide piece 8 in which a sleeve 9 is guided. In this sleeve 9 a rod 10 is telescopically mounted which carries at its upper end a roller 12 for pushing the cartridges into the gun. When the cartridges are being placed in the magazine the movable sleeve 13 and with it the rod 10 connected therewith are gradually depressed whereby, through the intermediary of the guide piece 9 the axle 6 is rotated and the spring which acts upon said axle is automatically wound up. At the end of the rod 10 mounted in the movable sleeve 9 an indicator 11 is fixed which is guided in a curved slot 17 of the cover 7 of the magazine and indicates the number of cartridges contained in the magazine. When the the arm is being used the cartridge which has just been fired is immediately replaced by the next following cartridge which is automatically fed into the barrel through the pressure of the roller 12. This pressure is transmitted to the roller from the spring influenced axle 6 by means of the sleeve 9 and pusher rod 10f I claim An improved automatic cartridge magazine for self-loading fire-arms, comprising in combination a cartridge tube, straight at the upper end, which is connected with the breech of the gun and wound in spirals at the lower end, a cover for said lower end of the cartridge tube having a curved guide slot, at spring-influenced axle revolubly mounted at the center of the lower part of the cartridge tube, a guide piece fixed at one end of said axle, a sleeve in said guide piece, a pusher rod telescopically mounted in said sleeve, a roller in the upper end of said pusher rod bearing against the last cartridge of the magazine, an indicator fixed at the outer end of said pusher rod engaging with said guide slot of the cover, substantially as described and shown and for the.
purpose set forth.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set myhand in the presence of two witnesses. EDMOND TATAREK. Witnesses:
B. WIMERFUZ, Jr., D. LEDERERHAME.
