To all whom it mllg/ concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES S; Musonorr, of

Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have inf venteda certain new' and useful device which -I term a Spiral Fastening, for connecting loops, rings, &c.;

and I do hereby declare the following to be a suiiciently` full, clear, and exact description thereof toenable one vskilled in the art to which my invention appertains to makeand use it, reference being had to the accompauying drawings making pal-tof this specification.

My inventionconsists of a peculiarly constructed spiral fastening, which may be connected to or formed in connection with 'any' article desired, and to which loops, rings, &c., may be readily connected.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1- exhibits the device when used in connection with. a fish-hook for the purpose of readily at` .taching the hook to thc line.

' Figure 2' shows two fastenings linked together,

-This may be applied to two shafts revolving out of a direct line wit-l1 each other. i Figure 3 is a modification, having Ythe point a ter'- ininate so as to lie close to and parallel with the center stem.

Figure 4 showsthe device when used in the construction of the anchor.

Figure 5 is the same device used with a ring, or as a puzzle or key-holder.

Figure 6 is Aonly another form of construction, with the coil more distant from the stem.

Figure 7 is a view of a double fastener, with an iutermediate swivel.

This fastening can he made of anymet-al or mate` rial that is ductile and elastic, and constructed as clearly shown in all the figures, viz: with a straight central stem, A, loop or eye B, and spiral C coiled around the central stem A, and terminating in point a.

The proximity ofA the spiral O to the stem A is governed by the use for which it is designed."

The spiral may be either Va right. or left-hand. It will be readily perceived that this coil is the (letached thread of a screw, of which the stem A is the center, and that a ring, loop, or cord may ascend this thread, entering ou point a and passing along the thread until brought into ring or eye B, as seen in g. 1, when, if de sirable, it can be run down the stem A `by reversing the motion, and arrive atfthe position seen in iig. 5,

This necessity for reversing, iu' order to get the ring, key, or loop on'the stem A, is notclcarly understood at rst, and the device shown in Iig. 5 may be either a good puzzle or useful keyholder,t&c.

Figure 7 exhibits links that could of course be multiplied and form a chain, which could be taken apart, link by lilik, .and then reunited'. p

This spiral fastening can be used in connection with innumerable devices, pendants, loops,'ho'oks, Soc., for

utility, ornament, or amusement, for such purposes as are exhibited in the drawings, and others that cannot be here enumerated.

WhatI claim as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`

A spiral fastening constructed substantially' as described, having a center shaft or stem, A, a loop, eye, or ring, B, and a spiral coil, C, surrounding the stein A, the whole being formed in one piece, in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
