GRANT G. FORD, OF SPEED, KANSAS.
MEDICINAL NEEDLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRANT G. Form, a citizen of the United States, residing at Speed, in the county of Phillips and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicinal Needles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in needles and more particularly to that class adapted to be used for medicinal purposes.
The main object of this invention is the provision of a needle of this character provided with means whereby medicine may be placed therein and inserted under the skin of an animal.
A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture reliable and efficient in use and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view this invention resides in the novel features of construction formations, combinations, and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line t4 of Fig 1.
Referring to the drawings by similar characters of reference the numeral 5 designates generally my improved needle which consists of a body portion or shank 6 upon one end of which is formed an angularly extending head 7. This said head 7 is substantially diamond shaped in plan view and has one of its points formed integrally with the adjacentportion of the shank. This head is extended on a curve which is a con- Speeification of Letters Patent.

tinuation of the lower edge of the shank while the opposite edges thereof are beveled as at 8 to produce resultant knife edges which permit of the ready insertion of the head under the skin of an animal. Obviously the juncture of the beveled edges produce a relatively sharp point.
The central portion of the head is formed with an oblong opening 9 the opposite side and end edges of which are beveled outwardly to the top and bottom faces of the head forming a pocket to receive medicine, and from which the same will be very readily removed.
In operation the pocket is filled with medicine and the head inserted under the skin at the desired point. The head is then moved outwardly from under the skin which leaves the medicine in an effective spot.
From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will. be manifest that a needle of the class described is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A needle of the class described comprising a shank, an angularly extending curved diamond shaped head formed thereon, the said shank being formed with beveled edges producing cutting surfaces and a relatively sharp point, and an opening located centrally of the head and formed with beveled edges, the said opening producing a pocket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
