Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft eine Papierstreichmasse, enthaltend
- mindestens ein anorganisches Pigment und, bezogen auf 100 Gew. Teile der anorganischen Pigmente,
- weniger als 40 Gew. Teile organische Polymere und
- weniger als 25 Gew. Teile Wasser oder sonstiger Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt unter 150°C bei 1 bar.
- Insbesondere betrifft die Erfindung auch vorstehende Papierstreichmassen, bei denen Bindemittel an das anorganische Pigment gebunden ist (im nachfolgenden als Pigment-Polymerhybrid bezeichnet).
- Papierstreichmassen enthalten üblicherweise Pigmente, organische Bindemittel und Wasser.
- Wasser oder sonstige Lösemittel werden nur für den Beschichtungsprozess selbst benötigt. Sie ermöglichen eine gleichmäßige Verteilung von Pigment und Polymer auf dem zu beschichtenden Papier.
- Wasserfreie Papierstreichmassen haben den Vorteil der Gewichtsersparnis. Transportkosten können gesenkt werden.
- Außerdem werden auch Energiekosten gespart, da nach der Beschichtung keine Trocknung erforderlich ist.
- Aus
WO 01/00712 WO 01/00713 - Derartige organische Pigmente sind teuer und nur durch aufwendige Herstellverfahren erhältlich. Gewünscht sind daher wasserfreie Papierstreichmassen, die keinen Gehalt an organischen Pigmenten haben müssen.
- Aus
WO 93/12183 - Pigment-Polymerhybride und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung sind aus Patentanmeldung
FR 04 07 806 - Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung war Papierstreichmassen mit einem möglichst geringen Gehalt an Wasser oder Lösungsmitteln. Die Papierstreichmassen sollen gute anwendungstechnische Eigenschaften haben, insbesondere sollen sie gut auf Papier oder Karton haften. Die beschichteten Papiere oder Kartone sollen gut bedruckbar sein. Demgemäss wurde die eingangs definierte Papierstreichmasse gefunden. Gefunden wurden auch Papierstreichmassen, welche Pigment-Polymerhybride enthalten.
- Die erfindungsgemäße Papierstreichmasse enthält als wesentlichen Bestandteil anorganische Pigmente. Insbesondere handelt es sich um Weißpigmente. Zu nennen sind z. B. Titandioxid, Aluminiumoxid, Aluminiumhydroxyd, Kaolin, Talk, Dolomit, Ton, Bentonit, Calciumcarbonat, z. B. in Form von Kalk, Kreide, Calcit, Marmor und/oder präzipiertem Calciumcarbonat, Calciumsulfat und/oder Bariumsulfat, Zinkoxid oder Streichclay.
- Besonders bevorzugt ist Titandioxid oder Calciumcarbonat.
- Neben anorganischen Pigmenten können auch organische Pigmente, wie sie z. B. in
WO 01/00712 WO 01/00713 - Besonders bevorzugt werden keine organischen Pigmente mitverwendet.
- Ein weiterer wesentlicher Bestandteil der Papierstreichmassen ist ein Bindemittel. Als Bindemittel geeignet sind natürliche und synthetische Polymere. Als natürliches Polymer kommt z. B. Stärke in Betracht.
- Als synthetische Polymere kommen insbesondere Polymere in Betracht, die durch radikalische Polymerisation von ethylenisch ungesättigten Verbindungen (Monomere) erhältlich sind.
- Vorzugsweise handelt es sich bei dem Bindemittel um ein Polymer, welches zu mindestens 40 Gew.-%, bevorzugt zu mindestens 60 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt zu mindestens 80 Gew.-% aus sogenannten Hauptmonomeren besteht.
- Die Hauptmonomere sind ausgewählt aus C1-C20-Alkyl(meth)acrylaten, Vinylestern von bis zu 20 C-Atome enthaltenden Carbonsäuren, Vinylaromaten mit bis zu 20 C-Atomen, ethylenisch ungesättigten Nitrilen, Vinylhalogeniden, Vinylethern von 1 bis 10 C-Atome enthaltenden Alkoholen, aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen mit 2 bis 8 C-Atomen und ein oder zwei Doppelbindungen oder Mischungen dieser Monomeren.
- Zu nennen sind z. B. (Meth)acrylsäurealkylester mit einem C1-C10-Alkylrest, wie Methylmethacrylat, Methylacrylat, n-Butylacrylat, Ethylacrylat und 2-Ethylhexylacrylat.
- Insbesondere sind auch Mischungen der (Meth)acrylsäurealkylester geeignet.
- Vinylester von Carbonsäuren mit 1 bis 20 C-Atomen sind z. B. Vinyllaurat, -stearat, Vinylpropionat, Versaticsäurevinylester und Vinylacetat.
- Als vinylaromatische Verbindungen kommen Vinyltoluol, a- und p-Methylstyrol, a-Butyl-styrol, 4-n-Butylstyrol, 4-n-Decylstyrol und vorzugsweise Styrol in Betracht. Beispiele für Nitrile sind Acrylnitril und Methacrylnitril.
- Die Vinylhalogenide sind mit Chlor, Fluor oder Brom substituierte ethylenisch ungesättigte Verbindungen, bevorzugt Vinylchlorid und Vinylidenchlorid.
- Als Vinylether zu nennen sind z. B. Vinylmethylether oder Vinylisobutylether. Bevorzugt wird Vinylether von 1 bis 4 C-Atome enthaltenden Alkoholen.
- Als Kohlenwasserstoffe mit 2 bis 8 C-Atomen und ein oder zwei olefinischen Doppelbindungen seien Ethylen, Propylen, Butadien, Isopren und Chloropren genannt.
- Bevorzugte Hauptmonomere sind C1-C10-Alkyl(meth)acrylate und Mischungen der Alkyl(meth)acrylate mit Vinylaromaten, insbesondere Styrol, (Polymere mit diesen Hauptmonomeren werden zusammenfassend kurz Polyacrylate genannt) oder, alternativ, Kohlenwasserstoffe mit 2 Doppelbindungen, insbesondere Butadien, oder Gemische von derartigen Kohlenwasserstoffen mit Vinylaromaten, insbesondere Styrol (Polymere mit diesen hauptmonomeren werden zusammenfassend kurz Polybutadiene genannt).
- Bei Gemischen von aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen (insbesondere Butadien) mit Vinylaromaten (insbesondere Styrol) kann das Verhältnis z. B. zwischen 10:90 bis 90:10, insbesondere 20:80 bis 80:20 liegen.
- Neben den Hauptmonomeren kann das Polymer Monomere mit mindestens einer Säuregruppe enthalten (kurz Säure-Momomer), z. B. Monomere mit Carbonsäure, Sulfonsäure oder Phosphonsäuregruppen. Bevorzugt sind Carbonsäuregruppen. Genannt seien z. B. Acrylsäure, Methacrylsäure, Itacon-säure, Maleinsäure oder Fumarsäure.
- Weitere Monomere sind darüber hinaus z. B. auch Hydroxylgruppen enthaltende Monomere, insbesondere C1-C10-Hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylate, (Meth)acrylamid.
- Besonders bevorzugte Polymere sind demnach im Falle der Polybutadiene aufgebaut aus
10 bis 90 Gew.%, vorzugsweise 20 bis 70 Gew. %, aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe mit zwei Doppelbindungen, insbesondere Butadien
10 bis 90 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 30 bis 80 Gew. %, vinylaromatische Verbindungen, insbesondere Styrol
0 bis 20 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 0 bis 10 Gew. % Säure-Monomer
0 bis 20 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 0 bis 10 Gew. % weitere Monomere
oder alternativ im Falle der Polyacrylate aus
10 bis 95 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 30 bis 95 Gew. %, C1 bis C 10 Alkyl(meth)acrylate
0 bis 60 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 0 bis 50 Gew. %, vinylaromatische Verbindungen, insbesondere Styrol und
0 bis 20 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 0 bis 10 Gew. % Säure-Monomer
0 bis 20 Gew. %, vorzugsweise 0 bis 10 Gew. % weitere Monomere - Sowohl die Polybutadiene als auch die Polyacrylate enthalten bevorzugt Säure-Monomere als Comonomere, vorzugsweise in einer Menge von 1 bis 5 Gew. %. Die Maximalmenge der obigen aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffe bei den Polybuadienen bzw. der Alkyl(meth)acrylate bei den Polyacrylaten erniedrigt sich entsprechend um den Minimalbetrag der Säure-Monomere.
- Die Herstellung der Polymere erfolgt in einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform durch Emulsionspolymerisation, es handelt sich daher um ein Emulsionspolymerisat.
- Die Herstellung kann jedoch z. B. auch durch Lösungspolymerisation und anschließende Dispergierung in Wasser erfolgen.
- Bei der Emulsionspolymerisation werden ionische und/oder nicht-ionische Emulgatoren und/oder Schutzkolloide bzw. Stabilisatoren als grenzflächenaktive Verbindungen verwendet.
- Die grenzflächenaktive Substanz wird üblicherweise in Mengen von 0,1 bis 10 Gew. %, bezogen auf die zu polymerisierenden Monomeren verwendet.
- Wasserlösliche Initiatoren für die Emulsionspolymerisation sind z. B. Ammonium- und Alkalimetallsalze der Peroxidischwefelsäure, z. B. Natriumperoxodisulfat, Wasserstoffperoxid oder organische Peroxide, z. B. tert-Butylhydroperoxid.
- Geeignet sind auch sogenannte Reduktions-Oxidations(Red-Ox)-Initiator Systeme.
- Die Menge der Initiatoren beträgt im allgemeinen 0,1 bis 10 Gew. %, bevorzugt 0,5 bis 5 Gew. %, bezogen auf die zu polymerisierenden Monomeren. Es können auch mehrere, verschiedene Initiatoren bei der Emulsionspolymerisation Verwendung finden.
- Bei der Polymerisation können Regler eingesetzt werden, z.B. in Mengen von 0 bis 0,8 Gew.-Teile, bezogen auf 100 Gew.-Teile der zu polymerisierenden Monomeren, durch die die Molmasse verringert wird. Geeignet sind z.B. Verbindungen mit einer Thiolgruppe wie tert.-Butylmercaptan, Thioglycolsäureethylacrylester, Mercaptoethynol, Mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilan oder tert.-Dodecylmercaptan.
- Die Emulsionspolymerisation erfolgt in der Regel bei 30 bis 130, vorzugsweise 50 bis 90°C. Das Polymerisationsmedium kann sowohl nur aus Wasser, als auch aus Mischungen aus Wasser und damit mischbaren Flüssigkeiten wie Methanol bestehen. Vorzugsweise wird nur Wasser verwendet. Die Emulsionspolymerisation kann sowohl als Batchprozeß als auch in Form eines Zulaufverfahrens, einschließlich Stufen- oder Gradientenfahrweise, durchgeführt werden. Bevorzugt ist das Zulaufverfahren, bei dem man einen Teil des Polymerisationsansatzes vorlegt, auf die Polymerisationstemperatür erhitzt, anpolymerisiert und anschließend den Rest des Polymerisationsansatzes, üblicherweise über mehrere räumlich getrennte Zuläufe, von denen einer oder mehrere die Monomeren in reiner oder in emulgierter Form enthalten, kontinuierlich, stufenweise oder unter Überlagerung eines Konzentrationsgefälles unter Aufrechterhaltung der Polymerisation der Polymerisationszone zuführt. Bei der Polymerisation kann auch z. B. zur besseren Einstellung der Teilchengröße eine Polymersaat vorgelegt werden.
- Die Art und Weise, in der der Initiator im Verlauf der radikalischen wässrigen Emulsionspolymerisation dem Polymerisationsgefäß zugegeben wird, ist dem Durchschnittsfachmann bekannt. Es kann sowohl vollständig in das Poiymerisationsgefäß vorgelegt, als auch nach Maßgabe seines Verbrauchs im Verlauf der radikalischen wässrigen Emulsionspolymerisation kontinuierlich oder stufenweise eingesetzt werden. Im Einzelnen hängt dies von der chemischen Natur des Initiatorsystems als auch von der Polymersiationstemperatur ab. Vorzugsweise wird ein Teil vorgelegt und der Rest nach Maßgabe des Verbrauchs der Polymerisationszone zugeführt.
- Zur Entfernung der Restmonomeren wird üblicherweise auch nach dem Ende der eigentlichen Emulsionspolymerisation, d. h. nach einem Umsatz der Monomeren von mindestens 95 %, Initiator zugesetzt.
- Die einzelnen Komponenten können dem Reaktor beim Zulaufverfahren von oben, in der Seite oder von unten durch den Reaktorboden zugegeben werden.
- Bei der Emulsionspolymerisation werden wässrige Dispersionen des Polymeren in der Regel mit Feststoffgehalten von 15 bis 75 Gew.-%, bevorzugt von 40 bis 75 Gew.-% erhalten.
- Als Bindemittel eignen sich insbesondere auch Gemische von verschiedenen Bindemitteln, z. B. auch Gemische von synthetischen und natürlichen Polymeren.
- Die erfindungsgemäße Papierstreichmasse enthält insgesamt weniger als 40 Gew. Teile, vorzugsweise weniger als 20 Gew. Teile, besonders bevorzugt weniger als 15 Gew. Teile organische Polymere, auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganische Pigmente.
- Der Gehalt an organischen Polymeren beträgt vorzugsweise mindestens 1 Gew. Teil, besonders bevorzugt mindestens 3 Gew. Teile und ganz besonders bevorzugt mindestens 5 Gew. Teile, auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganische Pigmente.
- Bei den organischen Polymeren handelt es sich insbesondere um vorstehende Bindemittel bzw. Gemische von Bindemitteln, gegebenenfalls zusätzlich mitverwendete organische Pigmente (siehe oben) oder sonstige Polymere Additive, z. B. Dispergierhilfsmittel oder synthetische oder natürliche Wachse.
- Insbesondere handelt es sich bei mindestens 60 Gew.-% der Gesamtmenge der organischen Polymere um Bindemittel, besonders bevorzugt handelt es sich bei mindestens 80 Gew.-%, ganz besonders bevorzugt bei mindestens 90 Gew.-% der organischen Polymere um Bindemittel.
- Die Papierstreichmasse kann außer Bindemittel gegebenenfalls sonstige nicht-flüchtige Verbindungen (Siedepunkt über 150°C bei 1 bar) oder weitere polymere Verbindungen als Zusatzstoffe enthalten. In Betracht kommen z. B. Trennmittel wie Siliciumdioxid, Talkum oder anorganische Salze.
- Die erfindungsgemäße Papierstreichmasse enthält weniger als 25 Gew. Teile Wasser oder sonstige Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt unter 150°C (1 bar), bezogen auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganische Pigmente. Insbesondere enthält sie weniger als 20 Gew. Teile, besonders bevorzugt weniger als 15 Gew. Teile, ganz besonders bevorzugt weniger als 5 Gew. Teile oder weniger als 2 Gew. Teile Wasser oder derartige Lösemittel auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganischer Pigmente.
- Insbesondere enthält die erfindungsgemäße Papierstreichmasse weniger als 1 Gew. Teile und in einer besonderen Ausführungsform weniger als 0,2 Gew. Teile Wasser oder derartige Lösemittel auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganischer Pigmente. Insbesondere enthält sie kein Wasser oder sonstige Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt unter 150°C (1 bar).
- Bei der erfindungsgemäßen Papierstreichmasse wird das anorganische Pigment vorzugsweise im Gemisch mit organischen Polymeren, insbesondere Bindemittel verwendet.
- Dazu können die anorganischen Pigmente und organischen Polymere, insbesondere das Bindemittel, zunächst nach üblichen Methoden gemischt werden und Wasser oder Lösemittel anschließend bis auf den obigen Restgehalt oder ganz entfernt werden.
- Letzteres kann z. B. auch durch Sprühtrocknung erfolgen.
- Insbesondere kann das anorganische Pigment in Gegenwart des Bindemittels vermahlen werden.
- Wasser bzw. Lösemittel kann vor, während oder vorzugsweise nach dem Mahlprozess entfernt werden.
- Die oben angeführten sonstigen nicht flüchtigen Verbindungen oder Hilfsmittel können der Papierstreichmasse jederzeit, z. B. auch vor, während oder nach der Entfernung von Wasser oder Lösemittel zugesetzt werden, bzw. vor während oder nach dem Mahlprozess zugesetzt werden.
- Das anorganische Pigment wird in Form von Pigment-Polymerhybriden verwendet. In diesen Hybriden ist das organische Polymer, bzw. Bindemittel chemisch oder physikalisch an das anorganische Pigment gebunden. Insbesondere ist das Bindemittel an die Pigmentoberfläche adsorbiert.
- Bei den Pigment-Polymerhybriden handelt es sich um eine eigenständige Teilchensorte mit einheitlicher Dichte. Bei Messung der Dichte der Pigment-Polymerhybride mit einer Ultrazentrifuge nach der Methode des statischen Dichtegradienten (bei 21 °C und 1 bar) wird nur eine Dichte, d. h. eine Teilchensorte, ermittelt. Die Meßmethode des statischen Dichtegradienten ist z. B. in W. Mächtle, M. D. Lechner, Progr. Colloid Polym.Sci (2002) 119, 1 beschrieben.
- Zur Untersuchung einer Probe im Statischen Dichtegradient (Stat. DG) wird eine Mischung aus leichtem Lösungsmittel und schwerem Lösungsmittel oder Zusatzstoff (i.d.R. Metrizamid/H2O, Metrizamid/D2O) bei moderaten Rotordrehzahlen für mindestens 22 Stunden zentrifugiert. Das unterschiedliche Sedimentations- und Diffusionsverhalten von schwerem und leichten Agenz führt zur Ausbildung eines Konzentrations- und damit eines Dichtegradient über die Zelle. Jede radiale Position der Messzelle weist daher je eine andere Lösungsmitteldichte auf. Die Probe bzw. die chemisch unterschiedlichen Komponenten der Probe sedimentieren oder flotieren innerhalb dieses Dichtegradienten genau an die radiale Position, an welcher ein ihrer Partikeldichte entsprechendes Mischungsverhältnis von leichtem und schwerem Agenz vorliegt. Damit ist eine hochgenaue Fraktionierung von Proben nach der Dichte und damit der chemischen Zusammensetzung möglich.
- Da sich in dem untersuchten System Polymer (ca. 1 g/cm3), Calciumcarbonat (2,6 bis 2,95 g/cm3, je nach Modifikation) und Polymer/Carbonat-Hybrid die Dichten der Partikel gravierend unterscheiden, kann über Messungen der Hybride in geeigneten statischen Dichtegradienten der Nachweis von freiem Polymer bzw. der Ausschluss von freiem Polymer erfolgen.
- Ein Pigment- Polymerhybrid ist durch die oben beschriebene Vermischung und Trocknung oder Vermahlung des Pigments in Gegenwart des Bindemittels erhältlich.
- Die Pigment-Polymerhybride haben selbstbindende Eigenschaften, wie in
FR 04 07 806 - Der Gehalt der organischen Polymere und Bindemittel in den Pigment-Polymerhybriden beträgt insbesondere weniger als 40 Gew. Teile, vorzugsweise weniger als 20 Gew. Teile, besonders bevorzugt weniger als 15 Gew. Teile organische Polymere, auf 100 Gew. Teile der in den Hybriden vorhandenen Pigmente.
- Der Gehalt an organischen Polymere und Bindemittel in den Pigment-Polymerhybriden beträgt vorzugsweise mindestens 1 Gew. Teil, besonders bevorzugt mindestens 3 Gew. Teile und ganz besonders bevorzugt mindestens 5 Gew. Teile, auf 100 Gew. Teile der in den Hybriden vorhandenen Pigmente.
- In den erfindungsgemäßen Papierstreichmassen werden organische Polymere, insbesondere Bindemittel und anorganische Pigmente besonders bevorzugt in Form der Pigment-Polymerhybride verwendet. Neben den Pigment-Polymerhybriden können auch organische Bindemittel und anorganische Pigmente verwendet werden, welche nicht in Form der Pigment-Polymerhybride vorliegen.
- Vorzugsweise besteht die erfindungsgemäße Papierstreichmasse zu mindestens 50 Gew.-%, insbesondere zu mindestens 80 Gew.-%, ganz besonders bevorzugt zu mindestens 90 Gew.-% aus Pigment-Polymerhybriden; insbesondere kann die Papierstreichmasse zu mindestens 95 Gew.-% bzw. 98 Gew.-% oder 100 Gew.-% aus den Pigment-Polymerhybriden bestehen.
- Vorzugsweise liegen mindestens 60 Gew.-%, insbesondere mindestens 80 Gew.-% und ganz besonders bevorzugt mindestens 95 Gew.-% und insbesondere 100 Gew.-% der insgesamt in der Papierstreichmasse vorhandenen anorganischen Pigment in Form der Pigment-Polymerhybride vor.
- Vorzugsweise liegen mindestens 60 Gew.-%, insbesondere mindestens 80 Gew.-% und ganz besonders bevorzugt mindestens 95 Gew.-% und insbesondere 100 Gew.-% der in der Papierstreichmasse enthaltenen organischen Polymere, bzw. Bindemittel in Form der Pigment-Polymerhybride vor.
- Die Papierstreichmasse eignet sich zur Beschichtung von Papier oder Karton. Die Papierstreichmasse kann durch geeignete Verfahren, insbesondere Trockenbeschichtungsverfahren aufgebracht werden, z. B. durch Aufrakeln oder auch elektrostatische Aufladung der zu beschichtenden Teilchen und anschließendes Beschichten, insbesondere Aufsprühen. Bevorzugt wird die Papierstreichmasse aufgesprüht.
- Nach der Beschichtung kann eine Verfilmung der organischen Polymere, bzw. Bindemittel, bei erhöhten Temperaturen, von vorzugsweise 100 bis 250°C, erfolgen.
- Das beschichtete Papier oder Karton ist insgesamt durch ein Verfahren erhältlich, welches dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass
- anorganische Pigmente in Gegenwart eines Bindemittels und gegebenenfalls von Wasser oder Lösungsmittel und gegebenenfalls weiterer Hilfsmittel vermahlen werden, wobei das Gemisch, bezogen auf 100 Gew.-Teile des anorganischen Pigmente, weniger als 40 gew.- Teil organische Polymere enthält,
- gegebenenfalls eine Trocknung, vorzugsweise Sprühtrocknung des erhaltenen Gemischs zur Entfernung des Wassers oder sonstiger Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt unter 150°C bei 1 bar bis auf einen Gehalt kleiner 20 Gew. Teile, vorzugsweise kleiner 5 Gew. Teile auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganisches Pigment erfolgt
- und darnach gegebenenfalls weitere Hilfsmittel zugesetzt werden.
- und danach die Papierstreichmasse auf Papiere oder Kartone aufgetragen wird.
- Durch Verwendung der erfindungsgemäßen Papierstreichmassen können Transportund Energiekosten gespart werden.
- Im übrigen haben die Papierstreichmassen gute anwendungstechnische Eigenschaften, z. B. eine gute Haftung an das Papier und eine gute Bedruckbarkeit in üblichen Druckverfahren.
- Die Herstellung erfolgte gemäß dem in
FR 04 07 806 - Zur Herstellung der Hybride H1 und H 2 wurden Calciumcarbonat-Slurries (Hydrocarb HO-LV der Fa. Omya AG) in einer DRAIS Polymex-Mühle in Gegenwart einer wässrigen Dispersion eines carboxylierten Styrol/Acrylat-Copolymeren (Acronal S 728 der BASF AG) als Bindemittel vermahlen.

- Für Hybrid H1 wurden 10 TI. Binder (fest) auf 100 TI. CaCO3 eingesetzt.
- Für Hybrid H2 wurden 20 TI. Binder (fest) auf 100 TI. CaCO3 eingesetzt.
- Die erhaltenen Polymer/Pigment-Hybride wiesen folgende Teilchengrößen auf (Malvern Master Sizer):
- H1: 82 % < 1 µm
- H2: 81 % < 1 µm
- Nachweis der physikalischen und/oder chemischen Bindung des Polymeren an das Pigment.
- Die Polymerhybride H1 und H2 sowie das eingesetzte Polymerisat Acronal S 728 wurden nach der vorne beschriebenen Methode im statischen Dichtegradienten der Ultrazentrifuge vermessen. Durch Einsatz von vier verschiedenen Dichtegradienten wurde dabei ein Dichtebereich von 0,95 g/cm3 bis 1,30 g/cm3 abgedeckt.
- Bei der Messung des eingesetzten Polymerisats wird ein scharfer Peak bei einer Dichte von 1,050 g/cm3 beobachtet.
- Bei der Messung der beiden Polymerhybride H1 und H2 werden in dem gesamten zugänglichen Dichtebereich, insbesondere bei der Dichte des reinen Polymerisats, keine Peaks beobachtet.
- Die Polymer/Pigment-Hybride enthalten also kein ungebundenes Polymerisat.
- Die Hybride wurden wie nachfolgend in einem Standardtrockner Modell "Minor" der Firma Niro, ausgerüstet mit einer Zweistoffdüse 1,3mm Bohrung, Material Teflon, sprühgetrocknet.
- Als Ausgangsmaterial wurde eine 25%ige Slurry gewählt, die über einen Ultraturrax mit 2000 U/min gerührt wurde.
Trocknereingangstemperatur 220°C, Trocknerausgangstemperatur 80°C
Ausbeute 82% (H1)
Ausbeute 79% (H2) - Erhalten wurden weiße, rieselfähige Pulver, an denen folgende Daten gemessen wurden:
- Oberfläche mit Stickstoff 5,4 m2/g (H1) 6,2 m2/g (H2)
- Pulver H1 weist eine monomodale Teilchengrößenverteilung, bestimmt durch Fraunhofer-Beugung an Luft, mit einer mittleren Teilchengröße von 7 µm auf.
H2 entsprechend von 6 µm - Die Pulver wurden mit einem Rakel auf ein unbehandeltes 80g/m2 holzfreies Rohpapier der Firma Stora Enso, Werk Oulu aufgetragen, eine ca. 155°C heiße Stahlplatte wurde auf die Beschichtung gelegt und ca. 10 Sekunden manuell angepresst. Es wurde ein gleichmäßig beschichtetes Papier mit einer glatten Oberfläche erhalten. Die Dicke der erhaltenen Beschichtung betrug 10 µm. Die Weiße der Beschichtung wurde mit einem Datacolor Elrepho 2000 Laborgerätmessen und betrug 90,01 (bei R 457). Die Weiße (R 457) üblicher, mit Papierstreichmassen beschichteter Papiere liegt zwischen 85 und 95.
Claims (18)
- Papierstreichmasse, enthaltend- mindestens ein anorganisches Pigment und, bezogen auf 100 Gew.-Teile der anorganischen Pigmente,- weniger als 40 Gew.-Teile organische Polymere und- weniger als 25 Gew.-Teile Wasser oder sonstiger Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt unter 150 °C bei 1 bar,wobei das anorganische Pigment in Form von Pigment-Polymerhybriden verwendet wird.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei den anorganischen Pigmenten um Weißpigmente, z. B. Titandioxid oder Calziumcarbonat handelt.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse keine organischen Pigmente enthält.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse ein organisches Polymer als Bindemittel enthält, welches zu mindestens 40 Gew. % aus sogenannten Hauptmonomeren, ausgewählt aus C1 bis C20 Alkyl(meth)acrylaten, Vinylestern von bis zu 20 C-Atome enthaltenden Carbonsäuren, Vinylaromaten mit bis zu 20 C-Atomen, ethylenisch ungesättigten Nitrilen, Vinylhalogeniden, Vinylethern von 1 bis 10 C Atome enthaltenden Alkoholen, aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen mit 2 bis 8 C Atomen und ein oder zwei Doppelbindungen oder Mischungen dieser Monomeren aufgebaut ist.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 3 oder 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Polymer zu mindestens 60 Gew. % aus Butadien oder Mischungen von Butadien und Styrol aufgebaut ist.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 3 oder 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Polymer zu mindestens 60 Gew. % aus C1 bis C20 Alkyl(meth)acrylaten oder Mischungen von C1 bis C20 Alkyl(meth)acrylaten mit Styrol aufgebaut ist.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 3 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei dem Bindemittel um Emulsionspolymerisate handelt.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Gehalt an organischen Polymeren weniger als 30 Gew. Teile auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganische Pigmente beträgt.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse weniger als 5 Gew Teile organische Pigmente, bezogen auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganische Pigmente enthält
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse keine organischen Pigmente enthält
- Papierstreichmassen gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 10, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse weniger als 10 Gew. Teile Wasser oder Lösemittel auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganisches Pigment enthält.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse zu mindestens 50 Gew. % aus Pigment-Polymerhybriden besteht, wobei die Pigment-Polymerhybride Gemische bezeichnen, in denen das organische Polymer chemisch oder physikalisch an das anorganische Pigment gebunden ist.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 12, erhältlich dadurch, dass zur Herstellung der Hybride zunächst ein Gemisch aus anorganischem Pigment und dem organischen Polymeren hergestellt wird und dabei gegebenenfalls mitverwendetes Wasser oder Lösungsmittel anschließend bis auf einen Restgehalt kleiner 20 Gew. Teilen auf 100 Gew. Teile anorganisches Pigment entfernt wird.
- Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 12 , dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass zur Herstellung der Hybride das anorganische Pigments in Gegenwart des organischen Polymeren vermahlen wird.
- Verwendung einer Papierstreichmasse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 14 zur Beschichtung von Papier oder Karton.
- Verwendung einer Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 14, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse durch ein Trockenbeschichtungsverfahren aufgetragen wird
- Verwendung einer Papierstreichmasse gemäß Anspruch 16, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Papierstreichmasse elektrostatisch aufgeladen und dann aufgesprüht wird.
- Verfahren zur Herstellung von mit einer Papierstreichmasse beschichteten Papieren oder Kartonen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass- anorganische Pigmente in Gegenwart eines Bindemittels und gegebenenfalls von Wasser oder Lösungsmittel und gegebenenfalls weiterer Hilfsmittel vermahlen werden, wobei das Gemisch, bezogen auf 100 Gew.-Teile der anorganischen Pigmente, weniger als 40 Gew.-Teile organische Polymere enthält,- gegebenenfalls eine Trocknung, vorzugsweise Sprühtrocknung des erhaltenen Gemischs zur Entfernung des Wassers oder sonstiger Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt unter 150 °C bei 1 bar bis auf einen Gehalt kleiner 20 Gew.-Teile, vorzugsweise kleiner 5 Gew.Teile auf 100 Gew.-Teile anorganisches Pigment erfolgt- und danach gegebenenfalls weitere Hilfsmittel zugesetzt werden,- und danach die Papierstreichmasse auf Papiere oder Kartone aufgetragen wird.
