Abstract

A method for checking security imprints comprises steps for entering and encrypting information printed on the mail piece, a crypto number and generating a mark from the crypto number, and comparing the generated mark with the printed mark. The information printed on a piece of mail can be automatically entered into an evaluation device (23) using a suitable reading device (24).
