Description

The present invention relates to an intervertebral disc replacement, which is used as a relief part in damaged intervertebral discs. With damaged intervertebral discs there is a risk that two adjacent vertebrae rub against each other. Of course, it can also lead to the widespread herniation, in which pressure is exerted on the spinal canal, which in the worst case can lead to paralysis.

Artificial intervertebral disc endoprostheses are known in a variety of designs. The intervertebral disc prosthesis according to DE 42 13 771 C1 from the applicant is mentioned here as an example. The intervertebral disc prosthesis disclosed therein is a full endoprosthesis, in the sense that the damaged intervertebral disc is completely removed and replaced by the endoprosthesis.

The application of this artificial intervertebral disc is not indicated and necessary in all cases. In many, if not most, cases, a local repair of the damaged intervertebral disc would be sufficient to avoid negative consequences from the lesion. Such locally acting implants are known, for example, from EP-A-307241, in which the intervertebral disc is partially removed and the two adjacent vertebrae are fixed in their position relative to one another.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide an implant which leads to a noticeable relief in the case of damaged intervertebral discs.

The object is achieved by a replacement of intervertebral discs according to claim 1. Advantageous refinements result from the subclaims.

Accordingly, an intervertebral disc part replacement is proposed as an implant, which acts as a relief part. The intervertebral disc part replacement consists of a distally rounded sleeve made of elastic material and a metallic body with a pin which is attached to an end plate. The sleeve has one inside Recording space for the spigot. If the pin is inserted into the sleeve, the end plate finally lies against the end face of the cavity and is essentially flush with it. The sleeve is therefore reinforced by the metallic pin.

This partial replacement can be used as follows: as a rule, two implants are inserted per intervertebral disc. A hole is made in the damaged intervertebral disc approximately in the direction of the transverse processes of the vertebral bodies. A set of intervertebral discs is then placed in the hole.

The sleeve preferably consists of body-compatible silicone. The metallic part of the end plate and the pin, on the other hand, consists of body-compatible metal.

To increase the bond strength between the silicone of the sleeve and the metal of the pin, the latter is preferably provided with a surface-enlarging profile.

A particularly preferred embodiment of the replacement of intervertebral discs is described below. Here, the end plate has a circumferential collar. This collar surrounds the sleeve provided with a shoulder at the proximal end. The diameter-reducing shoulder of the sleeve is designed so that the collar is still flush with the sleeve. On the outside, the circumferential collar is provided with a three-dimensional, open-mesh spatial network structure, as is known, for example, from DE 41 06 971 C1, this structure not serving in the present case for bone trapezoids to grow into it, but rather connective tissue for stabilizing and fixing the Intervertebral disc replacement.

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the single drawing figure. This shows an embodiment of the intervertebral disc replacement according to the invention in section.

The intervertebral disc part replacement 1 consists of a distally rounded sleeve 2. This has a receiving space 6 in its interior. The receiving space is designed in a simple manner as a central bore in the sleeve 2. The pin 4 of the metallic part of the implant is shown inserted into the receiving space 6. This is molded on an end plate 5. The length ratios of the pin 4 and the receiving space are chosen so that the end plate of the metallic body 3 rests essentially on the end face of the sleeve 2.

In the illustrated embodiment, the pin 4 has a surface-enlarging profile 7, which increases the bond strength between the sleeve material and the metal pin.

The depth of this paragraph 9 corresponds to the height of the collar 8 formed on and encircling the end plate 5 and having a three-dimensional open-mesh spatial network structure 10 provided thereon.

In the present case, the spatial network structure 10 is provided so that connective tissue can grow in here.
