Abstract

In a forme cylinder in an offset printing machine for erasable direct imaging, having a cylinder shell with a hydrophilic surface, which cylinder shell can be mounted on a cylinder body, the cylinder shell has a plurality of pores. The pores are of substantially equal size and are distributed evenly. The size and number of pores are adjustable. A damping medium can be passed through the cylinder body in such a way that the damping medium can pass through the pores to the surface of the cylinder shell. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a forme cylinder in an offset printing machine for an erasable direct imaging with a cylinder jacket with a hydrophilic or hydrophilizable surface that can be pulled onto a cylinder body.

Feuchtreiber vorgenommmen.A generic forme cylinder is known from DE-PS 36 36 129. This type of forme cylinder has a cylinder jacket with a printing surface that has heat-insulating properties and a hydrophilic character. An image information transmission unit within the printing press is assigned to the forme cylinder, via which the image information is transferred to the surface of the printing form in the form of ink-accepting surface elements. The image information can be deleted and the form cylinder within the printing press can be rewritten for an image change. The fountain solution is supplied to the forme cylinder in the manner customary in offset printing by means of additional dampening rollers or dampers.

B. gemahlene Walnußschalen, Holzpulver, Strohpulver, Fischöl, etc.US Pat. No. 4,967,663 proposes the use of an unengraved dosing roller made of porous ceramic, in which the pores of the ceramic have the function of taking up the ink liquid instead of ink cups. The production of a porous ceramic cylinder is state of the art and also described in detail using the example of a metering roller in US Pat. No. 4,967,663. Pore size and number of pores is set by adding organic fillers to the ceramic mass. The organic fillers burn when the ceramic is fired, leaving a porous ceramic body. Suitable organic fillers are e.g. B. ground walnut shells, wood powder, straw powder, fish oil, etc.

Another possibility for producing a porous ceramic skeleton is disclosed in DE-PS 38 40 137. A plastic foam, e.g. B. Polyurethane foam is immersed in a ceramic suspension. When the ceramic is fired, the plastic foam burns out, leaving a so-called foam ceramic. In this way, pore diameters between 3 and 100 µm and a porosity between 2 and 90% can be set.

The object of the invention is to form a porous ceramic cylinder so that it can be directly imaged and erased, ie. H. Reusable forme cylinder can be used and to which dampening solution can be fed to the surface of the forme cylinder without additional dampening rollers and dampers.

This object is achieved according to the invention by a forme cylinder of the type mentioned in the introduction, in which the cylinder jacket has a plurality of pores which are essentially of the same size and are uniformly distributed. The pore size and the number of pores can be adjusted in terms of production. The preferred porosity is between 20 and 45%. An advantageous measure consists in varying the diameter of the pores in such a way that it decreases from the inside of the cylinder jacket to the outside of the cylinder jacket and is of the order of 3 to 100 μm. The pores of the ceramic cylinder jacket communicate with each other. Fountain solution can be guided through the roller body in such a way that the fountain solution can reach the surface thereof through the pores of the cylinder jacket. The dampening solution is guided through the cylinder core in a manner known per se, as is used in the cooling of dampening or ink rubbers. A dampening solution chamber is provided between the cylinder jacket and the cylinder core, into which dampening solution supply or discharge lines open.

B. Aluminiumoxid (Al₂O₃), Zirkonoxid (ZrO₃), Cordierit (Al-Mg-Silikat), Steatit (Mg-Silikat) oder Siliciumcarbid (SiC).Suitable porous ceramics for the application on which the invention is based are e.g. B. aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), zirconium oxide (ZrO₃), cordierite (Al-Mg silicate), steatite (Mg silicate) or silicon carbide (SiC).

In addition to ceramics, materials from which porous forme cylinders can be produced are glass or metals or metal alloys. The powder metallurgical production of filters made of sintered metal, also in the form of tubes, is state of the art, as is the targeted setting of different pore sizes and pore distributions. In particular, bronzes and chromium-nickel alloys are used as materials.

Fig. 2
an enlarged partial view of the surface of the cylinder jacket,
Fig. 3
a section through the forme cylinder according to the invention.

In Fig. 1, a forme cylinder 1 can be seen in a spatial representation, the cylinder core 2 any material, for. B. iron, and has a coated cylinder jacket 3 made of porous ceramic. An advantageous measure with high porosity of the cylinder jacket 3 is to use a steel cylinder body for better mechanical stabilization of the cylinder jacket 3.

Sie besitzt einen hydrophilen Charakter und weist gleichmäßig verteilte, zur Oberfläche 4 hin offene Poren 5 im wesentlichen gleicher Größe auf.2 shows a section of the imageable surface 4 of the cylinder jacket 3. It has a hydrophilic character and has uniformly distributed pores 5 of essentially the same size which are open towards the surface 4.

Fig. 3 zeigt nochmals den Formzylinder 1 im Schnitt. Between the cylinder jacket 3 and the cylinder core 2, a dampening solution space 6 is provided in the pressure area of the surface 4 of the cylinder jacket 3 and is delimited on the front sides by the cylinder body 2 and the circumference by the cylinder jacket 3. The dampening solution can be supplied to the dampening solution space via dampening agent supply and discharge lines through the roller core 2 and reaches the surface 4 of the same through the pores 5 of the ceramic cylinder jacket 3 that communicate with one another.

The basic structure and the mode of action of the dampening solution supply of a cylinder are known per se in connection with cooled dampening or ink rubbers and therefore do not require any detailed explanation in the present context.

Such an endless cylinder jacket 3 made of porous ceramic can, for. B. via thermal transfer, ink-jet or similar methods directly by means of an image information transmission unit within the printing machine. The surface 4 of the cylinder jacket 3 is dampened directly from the interior of the porous ceramic forme cylinder 1. This has the particular advantage that no additional dampening rollers and / or dampers are necessary.

At the points where there is an image-accepting, ink-accepting material on the surface 4 of the ceramic cylinder jacket 3, the pores 5 are clogged, the dampening solution cannot get to the surface 4, so that ink-carrying and water-carrying areas on the surface are desired 4 of the cylinder jacket 3 arise. To use the forme cylinder 1 repeatedly, the imaging must be removed. This can e.g. B. by low pressure plasma treatment, burning with an oxyhydrogen flame or mechanical grinding. In a further extinguishing process that makes use of the porosity of the forme cylinder 1, the interior of the porous cylinder 1 becomes hotter Water vapor or other hot gases are supplied, which lift or detach the imaging from the printing form surface 4. An advantage of this deletion method is that the attack to remove the imaging takes place directly at the critical point, ie at the places where the imaged material is located, and not some atomic layers of imaged material have to be softened before the decisive weakening of the Adhesion between oleophilic material and printing form surface 4 can take place.
