Abstract

A vacuum cleaner comprises a housing with a cover, an inlet tube socket (3) connected to a filter bag (2) provided in a first chamber (1) in said housing, and an outlet opening (8) from said first chamber connected to a vacuum source.
The filter bag (2) constitutes a portion of a filter bag store (5) in the form of a preferably bellows-shaped tube which is mounted on the inlet tube socket (3). Means (10,11,12) are provided for sealing and cutting off the tube in order to separate a used filter bag (2′).

Description

  • The present invention relates to a vacuum cleaner comprising a housing having a cover, and an inlet tube socket discharging into a filter bag provided in a first chamber in the housing, said first chamber having an outlet opening connected to a vacuum source.
  • In conventional domestic vacuum cleaners the dust collecting bag constitutes a separate unit which is pushed onto the inlet socket of the vacuum cleaner, or the opening of the bag is brought into engagement with the socket. The disadvantage of such an arrangement is that the collected dust tends to fly when a filled and used up bag is replaced by a new one.
  • The object of the present invention is to provide a novel type of vacuum cleaner having a filter bag which is an integral portion of a long tube which is sold on the market folded, rolled, or pressed to a bellows having a central opening.
  • The vacuum cleaner according to the invention is generally characterized in that the filter bag constitutes a portion of a store of filter bags in the form of a preferably folded tube, means being provided for sealing and cutting the tube for separating a filled bag.
  • The advantage obtained by the invention is that the handling of filled and used up filter bags is more hygienic.
  • A preferred embodiment of the invention is described in detail in the following with reference to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a diagrammatical axial section of a vacuum cleaner housing according to the invention.
  • The vacuum cleaner housing is divided into two chambers, i.e. a first chamber 1 containing an empty filter bag 2 connected to an inlet by the socket 3, and a second chamber 4 containing a tube 5 of filter bags formed as a bellows. The filter tube 5 has a central opening adapted to accommodate the tube socket 3. The tube socket is connected to a cleaner nozzle via hose and tube means in the normal way. The filter bag store 5 is held in its position by means of, for example, resilient clamps 6 extending into the housing from the inner wall thereof. The opposite end of the filter bag store 5 has a sealing ring 7 surrounding the tube socket 3. As is conventional, the chamber 1 has a connection 8 to a vacuum source, such as a suction fan.
  • When the filter bag 2 is full, the cover (not shown) is raised from the cleaner housing and the bag is removed, the mouth thereof being inserted into the slot 9 in the housing whereby the bag occupies the position shown at 2′ in the figure. The mouth of the bag is subsequently sealed by means of a sealing member 10, and the bottom of the next bag is sealed by means of a sealing member 11. The use bag 2′ is then separated in that the connection portion thereof between the members 10 and 11 is cut off by means of a knife 12. The sealing members 10, 11 may consist of, for example, staplers.

Claims (5)

1. Vacuum cleaner comprising a housing having a cover, and an inlet tube socket (3) discharging into a filter bag (2) provided in a first chamber (1) in the housing, said first chamber having an outlet opening (8) connected to a vacuum source, characterized in that the filter bag (2) constitutes a portion of a store of filter bags in the form of a preferably folded tube, means (10,11,12) being provided for sealing and cutting the tube (5) for separating a filled bag (2′).
2. Vacuum cleaner according to claim 1, characterized in that the store (5) of filter bags is slipped on the inlet tube socket (3) in a second chamber (4) in the housing, said first and second chambers being separated by retaining means (6) provided on the inner wall of the housing and engaging the end of the store (5) of bags facing said first chamber (1).
3. Vacuum cleaner according to claim 1 or 2, characterized by cutting means (12) in said first chamber (1) for separating a used bag (2′) from the tubular store (5) of bags.
4. Vacuum cleaner according to any of the claims 1 to 3, characterized by means (10) in said first chamber (1) for sealing a used bag (2′) constituting a portion of the tubular store (5) of bags.
5. Vacuum cleaner according to any of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the tubular store (5) of bags is mounted on the inlet tube socket (3) which extends into the housing.
