Definitions

  • the invention relates to a cell comprising a variable volume chamber capable of performing several functions such as the functions of generating a fluid flow rate, measuring viscosity, fluid homogeneity, temperature, positioning the rotor. an engine, etc.
  • compressed air is used for pressurization. If it is industrial compressed air, it must be carefully filtered. The vacuum function for jet recovery is obtained by the Venturi effect.
  • the major drawback of this supply system is the transfer of ink from the vacuum part to the pressurized part, which requires the installation of multiple transfer locks. In addition, if compressed air is not available, a compressor is required.
  • the present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks and relates to a new device called cell in the following description, cell which, alone or in combination with another, allows to perform a large number of functions.
  • such a cell is capable, in cooperation with the various reservoirs of fluid, ink and solvent, of generating a flow of fluid intended in particular for supplying a conventional printing head with continuous ink jet.
  • it is also capable of cooperating with means for recovering the unused ink jet to ensure recycling.
  • Such a cell can be adapted to perform, in addition to these functions already stated, those of measuring a viscosity, checking the homogeneity of a fluid, checking levels, etc.
  • Two of these cells according to the invention can be arranged to constitute a complete supply circuit which requires the implementation of a single motor and a single sensor.
  • An extremely compact means architecture is thus obtained, which considerably opens up the fields of application of the inkjet printing technique as it is currently used in the industrial field, these fields of application being able to extend to office automation for example.
  • the invention relates more precisely to a cell intended to be integrated into a hydraulic circuit, comprising a variable volume chamber, characterized in that the latter is: - on the one hand connected to a pressure sensor; - on the other hand controlled by a stepping motor; - Finally, connected to a plurality of valves each giving access to a restriction, these valves being opening and closing electronically controlled as a function of the position of the rotor of said motor and accepting both directions of operation; such a combination of means making said cell capable of performing multiple functions.
  • a cell according to the invention is illustrated by means of the figure 1. It essentially consists of a chamber (1) with variable volume as a function of the displacement of a piston (p). The latter is mechanically connected by means (2) to an eccentric (3) driven by a stepping motor (4) whose mode of operation will be explained below.
  • This variable volume (1) is connected on the one hand to a pressure sensor (5), and on the other hand by a pipe (6) to one, two or more valves electrically controlled by coils (b). Only two valves (7) and (9) are shown in FIG. 1, but this number is not restrictive and the application described below will moreover clearly show the use of a plurality of valves associated with one room. These valves accept both directions of fluid circulation and are normally closed (case of Figure 1) in the absence of an electrical signal.
  • the length (L) is equal to approximately 15 times the diameter (D) of the tube through which the fluid passes, the arrow (F) symbolizing the flow.
  • This section of tube of length (L) and diameter (D) therefore corresponds to the restrictions as symbolized in FIG. 1 by the references (8) and (10) and by other references in the subsequent figures.
  • FIG. 3a is represented a pressure diagram illustrating the variation ( ⁇ P) as a function of the position (Pr), for a complete revolution (from 0 ° to 360 °) of the rotor of the stepping motor (4).
  • This diagram corresponds to the configuration of the cell (1) illustrated in FIG. 3b where only the electro-controlled valve (7) is permanently open.
  • the 0 ° position corresponds to the position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4) where the volume of the chamber (1) is minimal, and 180 ° the position where the volume of the chamber (1) is maximum.
  • the displacement of the piston (p) is illustrated by the arrows (F1) and (F2). This displacement corresponds to a displacement of the viscous fluid in the restriction (8) whose direction depends on that of the piston (p), hence its representation by an arrow (F3) and an arrow (F4).
  • a displacement of the piston (p) of the variable volume chamber (1) generates a displacement of fluid in the valve (7) and the restriction (8).
  • the movement of the viscous fluid in the restriction (8) causes on the pressure sensor (5) the appearance of a pressure difference ( ⁇ P) ( Figure 3a) positive or negative depending on the direction of movement of the piston.
  • ⁇ P pressure difference
  • the instantaneous value of this pressure depends on both the instantaneous flow of the fluid and its viscosity.
  • FIG. 3a represents the evolution of the pressure measured on the sensor (5) for a complete rotation from 0 ° to 360 ° of the motor (4), and this at constant speed of rotation, the mechanical coupling between the engine and the piston (p) being made by an eccentric (3).
  • a cell according to the invention makes it possible to dispense with a rotor position sensor, position (Pr) which it is however essential to determine in order to be able to synchronize the operation of the valves.
  • the two valves (7) and (9) are closed.
  • the rotor of the stepper motor (4) is moved a few steps in one direction, and a few steps in the other to determine the direction of compression and the direction of expansion.
  • one of the valves is open and the rotor performs a full revolution ( Figure 4b).
  • the differential pressure ( ⁇ P) created by the restriction (8) or (10) corresponding to the open valve (7) or (9) is then measured.
  • such a method therefore makes it possible to dispense with the use of a specific sensor responsible for indicating the angular position of the rotor of the motor (4). Knowing by this means this position, we can then ensure the synchronization of the valves (7) and (9). This is one of the functions of a cell according to the invention.
  • the generation of a fluid flow is done in two half-cycles.
  • ⁇ P the pressure difference measured by the sensor (5) during the two half-cycles explained above and which corresponds to a suction phase consecutive to the opening of the valve (7) of on the one hand, and a delivery phase corresponding to the opening of the valve (9) on the other hand.
  • a flow of fluid may be generated in both directions by reversing the operation of the valves (7) and (9), or else may not be, if one of the two valves is kept open and the another closed while the engine is running, as illustrated by FIG. 3b.
  • These two particular operating modes, characteristic of the invention, are essential for the application described later.
  • the cell according to the invention can play, one can also cite the emptying of a pressure tank to the benefit in particular of another tank. It suffices for this to simultaneously open the two valves associated respectively with these two reservoirs.
  • the configuration of a circuit implementing a cell according to the invention allows direct measurement of a pressure by means of the sensor (5) by direct connection of the chamber (1) with the member whose wants to measure pressure.
  • the valve which controls this downstream member is then kept in the open position, the engine is stopped and the pressure sensor (5) is then directly in communication, via the chamber (1), with the said member not shown here but whose an example will be given later.
  • the profile shown in Figure 8 is only an example, knowing that any profile of the diagram moving away from a sinusoid, while all the other parameters are correct, highlights a multi-phasic fluid.
  • a cell according to the invention differs from the conventional operation of a membrane pump and non-return valves. Indeed, the valves are here replaced, in accordance with the invention, by bi-directional valves (7) and (9), controlled in synchronism with the absolute position of the rotor of the stepping motor (4) by an electronic system. adequate. Such an arrangement leads to obtaining all the functions that the cell thus described can perform.
  • FIG. 10a Such a circuit according to the invention is illustrated by means of FIG. 10a in a static configuration, all the valves being in the closed position.
  • This circuit includes four tanks, two of which are removable.
  • the reservoir (15) is a cartridge containing ink (30) in reserve, not yet used. This reservoir (15) is removable.
  • the reservoir (16) is a cartridge containing the pure solvent (31) of the ink used. This reserve solvent (31) makes it possible to top up the solvent necessary to maintain the viscosity of the ink used and recycled in the system. Maintaining the viscosity of the ink of the jet, is linked to an evaporation of the solvent during recycling of the ink.
  • This reservoir (16) is also removable.
  • the reservoir (18) containing the ink (34) functionally fulfills the role of a pressure accumulator which is used in order to transform the pulsed flow rate of the cell when it is used in the pumping cell, into a constant flow rate at fixed pressure, and directly intended for the formation of the jet.
  • This reservoir contains a pocket of air (180) under pressure which acts as a shock absorber. This air pocket (180) is renewed each time the printer is started as will be explained below.
  • the role of the reservoir (17) is to receive the recovery ink (33) and the air returning from the gutter (22), and to separate them.
  • the ink necessary to maintain the pressure in the accumulator (18) is taken from this reservoir.
  • the reservoir (17) has a volume equivalent to the accumulator (18), for reasons explained below.
  • Each of these four tanks (15, 16, 17, 18) is connected, in accordance with the invention, by a general pipe (66), to a first variable-volume chamber (1) via a valve couple -restriction (9-10) for the reservoir (18); (7-8) for the reservoir (17); (11-12) for the tank (16); and (13-14) for the reservoir (15). All these restrictions, as has already been said previously, are of the type described by means of FIG. 2. All of these cells, the heart of which is the chamber (1), bears the general reference (A).
  • the pressure sensor (5) is connected to this first chamber (1) and allows, all in all, checks and measurements corresponding to the functions already described and which are explained below in the application considered.
  • This supply circuit has only one sensor, the pressure sensor (5), and that this single sensor (5) allows all the measures necessary for the proper functioning of the assembly, namely the pressure measurement of the ink supplying the jet, the viscosity measurement of the ink, the level control of the reservoir (18) during the regeneration of the air pocket, the measurement of the empty level of the reservoir (17), the measurement of the low level and the empty level of the solvent tank (16), the measurement of the viscosity of the ink in the tank (15) parameter linked in particular to the temperature, the measurement of the low level and of the level empty ink tank (15), the synchronism of operation of the valves with the position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4).
  • this single pressure sensor (5) alone replaces all the sensors that are necessarily encountered in supply circuits of currently known types.
  • a second variable volume chamber (23) also cooperates with a plurality of valves; this combination is referenced (B). Its essential function is to recover the ink from the jet (21) at the level of the gutter (22).
  • This second chamber (23) is in fact combined with a set of three valves (29, 24, 25) whose functions will be explained below.
  • This second cell has no restrictions insofar as, being coupled mechanically to the eccentric (3) common to the first chamber (1), the synchronism of operation of the valves which are attached to it, results from the synchronism of the chamber (1).
  • Such a combination of two sets (A) and (B) according to the invention therefore coupled to a single motor (4) and a single sensor (5), further contributes to the compactness of the circuit.
  • valves (19) and (28) are directly linked to the operation of the jet (21) emitted by the print head (T) and are part of the known art, in particular by the patent application of the Applicant already cited above. For this, this combination is fictitiously isolated from the rest of the circuit by means of a rectangle (150) in broken lines.
  • the valve (19) is respectively connected to the pressure tank (18) on the one hand, and to the head (T) which generates the ink jet (21) on the other hand.
  • the valve (28) called the purge valve, is connected to the valves (24, 25, 29) of the cell (B).
  • the unused ink jet is recovered at a recovery gutter (22).
  • the essential operating cycles are therefore carried out by electrically controlling the various valves synchronously at the instantaneous position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4) as already explained above.
  • FIGS. 10b to 10i a succession of figures has been presented (FIGS. 10b to 10i) each corresponding to the situation in which the various valves concerned are found, for a given operating phase.
  • Those which are open (passage of the fluid) for the sequence considered are shown in solid lines, the others being closed (blocking of the fluid) are shown in dotted lines.
  • the valve in question is kept permanently open (passing)
  • the entire coil (b) is shaded and the drawer (t) shown in solid lines.
  • the coil (b) is half shaded and the drawer (t) diagrammatically shown in dark dotted lines. All the valves not concerned in the described operating phase are therefore dotted clearly.
  • the valve (19) is open, the head (T) is supplied and the jet (21) emitted.
  • the valve (19) is open, the head (T) is supplied and the jet (21) emitted.
  • FIGS. 10b to 10i Each of these main functions is now taken up in more detail by means of FIGS. 10b to 10i:
  • the volume of ink (34) of the accumulator (18) which is subjected to the pressure of the air pocket (180) that it contains, decreases over time, during the flow of the jet (21), which increases the volume of air (180) and results in a drop in pressure. Maintaining the pressure, and therefore the volume of ink contained (34), is achieved by adding a dose of ink to the reservoir (18) coming from the reservoir (17), and this thanks to the combination (1, 7, 9) which is operated in the cell pumping as has been explained previously by means in particular of Figures 6a and 6b.
  • a dose in the description it is the volume corresponding to that generated by the piston (p) of the chamber (1) with, as part of this sequence, the help of the valves (7) and (9).
  • the viscosity of the ink is regularly checked using a complete cycle of rotation of the rotor, leaving the valve (9) open, as shown in Figure 10c.
  • the differential pressure ( ⁇ P) allows the viscosity of the ink (34) to be measured. This viscosity measurement cycle is carried out when no addition of ink is necessary in the reservoir (18).
  • This cycle also makes it possible to homogenize the ink in the reservoir (18) when it has just received a dose of solvent, by creating an alternative mixing of the ink.
  • this cycle is repeated several times before being used for the viscosity measurement.
  • the viscosity of the ink used apart from any evaporation of solvent depends on the temperature. Also the viscosity setpoint must take into account the variation in viscosity of the ink as a function of the temperature. To do this, the viscosity setpoint of the ink used is fixed by measuring the viscosity of the new ink of the cartridge (15). This measurement is made by measuring the differential pressure ( ⁇ P) during a cycle of the rotor where the valve (13) remains permanently open (Figure (10d). This eliminates the constraints associated with the use of different types of ink which would not have the same properties depending on the temperature.

  • the flexible envelope containing the liquid has the particularity, by the design of its shape, of being all the less deformable when the remaining volume of liquid is low. This results in the appearance of a depression of the liquid in the pockets, the greater the lower the volume of liquid remaining.
  • the static pressure of the pocket concerned is measured while holding the valve corresponding (13) or (11) open during the stop time (T1) of the rotor ( Figure 9).
  • the level of liquid (30, 31) in the deformable pockets is considered to be low when the measured vacuum is less than a given setpoint.
  • the reservoir (18) being under pressure, it is initially emptied of its ink by opening the two valves (7) and (9) simultaneously, engine (4) stopped, the air under pressure driving out the ink (34) in the reservoir (17) faster than a cell operating in a pumping cell, the flow rate of which is of the same order as that of the jet.
  • the pressure recorded during this emptying is the median pressure between the pressure of the reservoir (18) and the surrounding pressure.
  • the motor is used again creating a pumping function, the valve (9) being open during the suction half-cycle, and the valve (7) being open during the delivery half-cycle.
  • valves (9), (29) and (25) are then opened in order to allow outside air coming from the gutter (22) to regenerate the air volume of the tank (18).

This measurement is made by measuring the differential pressure ( ⁇ P) during a cycle of the rotor where the valve (13) remains permanently open (FIG. 10d). Description

The invention relates to a cell comprising a variable volume chamber capable of performing several functions such as the functions of generating a fluid flow rate, measuring viscosity, fluid homogeneity, temperature, positioning the rotor. an engine, etc.

It also relates to the application of such cells arranged in such a way that they lead to the production of a hydraulic supply circuit for a continuous ink jet print head, a circuit the essential quality of which is be, thanks to the implementation of such a cell, extremely compact for operating performance and high reliability.

- d'une génération d'un jet d'encre dont le débit est en général inférieur à 20 cm³/minute et ceci à une pression pouvant atteindre 4 bars;
- de fluctuations résiduelles sur la pression d'alimentation inférieures à 1 %;
- d'une récupération et d'un recyclage de l'ensemble du débit d'encre généré non utilisé pour l'impression;
- de la possibilité d'utilisation d'encres à solvants très volatils permettant un séchage rapide sur des matériaux non poreux, tels que le métal ou le verre par exemple;
- d'une fiabilité élevée;
Although the inkjet application of a cell according to the invention is not limiting, it is the latter which will be described in more detail in the following description. There is indeed an illustration of the main functions that can be accomplished by such a cell taken separately or in combination with another cell. It should therefore be recalled here what special needs must be met by an ink supply circuit of a continuous ink jet print head. These include:
- a generation of an ink jet whose flow rate is generally less than 20 cm³ / minute and this at a pressure of up to 4 bars;
- residual fluctuations in the supply pressure less than 1%;
- recovery and recycling of all the ink flow generated not used for printing;
- the possibility of using inks with very volatile solvents allowing rapid drying on non-porous materials, such as metal or glass for example;
- high reliability;
- operation in a fully automatic industrial environment, maintenance-free and without demanding cleaning procedures before prolonged shutdown of the supply circuit.

In currently known inkjet marking printers, different solutions have been chosen to meet the requirements expressed above. Use is made, for example, of gear pumps ensuring the functions of pressurizing the jet, and depressurizing the gutter for recovering the jet, cooperating with integrated means for measuring viscosity and adding solvent when the ink used contains volatile solvents. A supply circuit of this type is described in French patent application 8316440 filed by the Applicant and published under the number 2,553,341. Such an architecture, although very efficient and suitable for certain applications, can however have some drawbacks. Among other things, gear pumps, even of small dimensions, are ill-suited to the generation of small medium pressure flows, such as those necessary for the continuous jet technique. These types of pumps, by construction, have internal leaks due to the necessary functional mechanical clearances: these leaks are such that the pump must generate, in order to operate under good conditions, an actual flow rate very much higher than that which is necessary for the jet. Large flows at the required pressures imply mechanical and electrical powers without measurement with what is necessary for the jet, and therefore overheating, ventilation and an oversized power supply.

Furthermore, the reliability of this type of pump, for this application, is very modest, because materials compatible with light solvents, such as Methyl Ethyl Céthone, are rare. The gears are often made of Teflon, a material which has mechanical characteristics of limited wear.

To ensure the proper functioning of such a circuit, multiple sensors must be used, such as pressure sensors, level sensors with plunging probes, viscometer, temperature sensor for correcting ink viscosity, piping important, etc. In addition, cleaning procedures are tedious.

In another type of material, compressed air is used for pressurization. If it is industrial compressed air, it must be carefully filtered. The vacuum function for jet recovery is obtained by the Venturi effect. The major drawback of this supply system is the transfer of ink from the vacuum part to the pressurized part, which requires the installation of multiple transfer locks. In addition, if compressed air is not available, a compressor is required.

The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks and relates to a new device called cell in the following description, cell which, alone or in combination with another, allows to perform a large number of functions.

On the one hand, such a cell is capable, in cooperation with the various reservoirs of fluid, ink and solvent, of generating a flow of fluid intended in particular for supplying a conventional printing head with continuous ink jet. On the other hand, it is also capable of cooperating with means for recovering the unused ink jet to ensure recycling.

Finally, such a cell can be adapted to perform, in addition to these functions already stated, those of measuring a viscosity, checking the homogeneity of a fluid, checking levels, etc.

Two of these cells according to the invention can be arranged to constitute a complete supply circuit which requires the implementation of a single motor and a single sensor. An extremely compact means architecture is thus obtained, which considerably opens up the fields of application of the inkjet printing technique as it is currently used in the industrial field, these fields of application being able to extend to office automation for example.

- d'une part reliée à un capteur de pression;
- d'autre part commandée par un moteur pas à pas;
- enfin, reliée à une pluralité de valves donnant accès chacune à une restriction, ces valves étant à ouverture et fermeture commandées électroniquement en fonction de la position du rotor du dit moteur et acceptant les deux sens de fonctionnement;

- Finally, connected to a plurality of valves each giving access to a restriction, these valves being opening and closing electronically controlled as a function of the position of the rotor of said motor and accepting both directions of operation;

A cell according to the invention is illustrated by means of the figure 1. It essentially consists of a chamber (1) with variable volume as a function of the displacement of a piston (p). The latter is mechanically connected by means (2) to an eccentric (3) driven by a stepping motor (4) whose mode of operation will be explained below. This variable volume (1) is connected on the one hand to a pressure sensor (5), and on the other hand by a pipe (6) to one, two or more valves electrically controlled by coils (b). The position of the drawer (t) shows for example that the valve (7) is in the blocking position. Finally, on the pipes (71), (91) for the outlet of each valve, a restriction (8, 10) is normally provided, the structure of which is more clearly illustrated by means of FIG. 2. These restrictions are designed so as to create a pressure difference at their ends when a flow of fluid of non-zero viscosity passes through them which can translate in terms of pressure drop. They are capable in particular of demonstrating in the form of a pressure difference (ΔP), the viscosity of the fluid during a pulse of fluid flow. To do this, as shown in Figure 2, these restrictions consist of a tube (100) integrated in series in the hydraulic circuit, of length (L) significantly greater than the diameter (D) of said tube. By way of example, the length (L) is equal to approximately 15 times the diameter (D) of the tube through which the fluid passes, the arrow (F) symbolizing the flow. This section of tube of length (L) and diameter (D) therefore corresponds to the restrictions as symbolized in FIG. 1 by the references (8) and (10) and by other references in the subsequent figures.

In FIG. 3a is represented a pressure diagram illustrating the variation (ΔP) as a function of the position (Pr), for a complete revolution (from 0 ° to 360 °) of the rotor of the stepping motor (4). This diagram corresponds to the configuration of the cell (1) illustrated in FIG. 3b where only the electro-controlled valve (7) is permanently open. The electro-controlled valve (9), always closed, appears in dotted lines. By convention, throughout the following description, the 0 ° position corresponds to the position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4) where the volume of the chamber (1) is minimal, and 180 ° the position where the volume of the chamber (1) is maximum. The displacement of the piston (p) is illustrated by the arrows (F1) and (F2). This displacement corresponds to a displacement of the viscous fluid in the restriction (8) whose direction depends on that of the piston (p), hence its representation by an arrow (F3) and an arrow (F4).

A displacement of the piston (p) of the variable volume chamber (1) generates a displacement of fluid in the valve (7) and the restriction (8). The movement of the viscous fluid in the restriction (8) causes on the pressure sensor (5) the appearance of a pressure difference (ΔP) (Figure 3a) positive or negative depending on the direction of movement of the piston. The instantaneous value of this pressure depends on both the instantaneous flow of the fluid and its viscosity. When the volume of the chamber is increased (suction), the ΔP is negative; during a reduction in volume (discharge), the ΔP is positive.

The diagram in FIG. 3a represents the evolution of the pressure measured on the sensor (5) for a complete rotation from 0 ° to 360 ° of the motor (4), and this at constant speed of rotation, the mechanical coupling between the engine and the piston (p) being made by an eccentric (3).

Under these conditions, a cell according to the invention makes it possible to dispense with a rotor position sensor, position (Pr) which it is however essential to determine in order to be able to synchronize the operation of the valves. For this, we will rely on the use of pressure diagrams as described below. The fluid and the pressure sensor (5) are used to determine the angular 0 ° of the motor rotor (4), ie (Pr = 0 °). We begin by determining the nature of the fluid present in the chamber (1). The two valves (7) and (9) are closed. The rotor of the stepper motor (4) is moved a few steps in one direction, and a few steps in the other to determine the direction of compression and the direction of expansion. The rotor is then moved continuously in the direction in which the pressure increases. This procedure is illustrated by means of Figure (4a) which shows the evolution of the pressure difference (ΔP) as a function of the advancement of the stepper rotor, in one direction first, then in the other , and finally in the direction corresponding to compression.

La position angulaire (Pr = 0°) est alors déterminée par la position médiane se situant entre le maximum (maxi) et le minimum (mini) de (ΔP), telle qu'indiquée sur la figure 4b.If the pressure reaches the maximum measurable by the sensor (5), the fluid is an incompressible and viscous fluid, for example ink, and it is impossible by this means to determine the maximum compression point which corresponds to the angular position (Pr = 0 °) corresponding to the minimum chamber volume (1). To overcome this, one of the valves is open and the rotor performs a full revolution (Figure 4b). The differential pressure (ΔP) created by the restriction (8) or (10) corresponding to the open valve (7) or (9) is then measured. The angular position (Pr = 0 °) is then determined by the median position lying between the maximum (maximum) and the minimum (minimum) of (ΔP), as indicated in FIG. 4b.

Dans ce cas, les valves (7) et (9) restant fermées, un tour complet du rotor est exécuté et la position angulaire (Pr = 0°) est déterminée par le point de (ΔP) maximal tel qu'indiqué sur la figure 4c.If, on the other hand, when the two valves (7) and (9) are closed, the maximum pressure difference (ΔP) measurable by the sensor (5) is not reached, the fluid is compressible; it is therefore, in the example chosen, a mixture of air and ink. In this case, the valves (7) and (9) remaining closed, a full revolution of the rotor is executed and the angular position (Pr = 0 °) is determined by the point of (ΔP) maximum as indicated in the figure 4c.

According to the invention, such a method therefore makes it possible to dispense with the use of a specific sensor responsible for indicating the angular position of the rotor of the motor (4). Knowing by this means this position, we can then ensure the synchronization of the valves (7) and (9). This is one of the functions of a cell according to the invention.

According to another characteristic of the latter, one can deduce, knowing the function (ΔP = f viscosity), for a value of the restriction concerned and a rotational speed of the motor (4) known and fixed, from the maximum values of the differences pressure (ΔP max and ΔP minimum), corresponding to the maximum instantaneous flow generated by the piston (p), the value of the viscosity of the fluid. This other function of the cell (1) is illustrated by means of FIG. 5 which represents the two diagrams ΔP = f (Pr) for two viscosities (V1) and (V2) different from the fluid.

After having already described the functions for measuring the position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4) and that for measuring the viscosity of the fluid, we now describe, according to another characteristic of the invention, the operation of the cell in its function of generating a fluid flow, the cell then behaves as a real pumping cell.

The generation of a fluid flow is done in two half-cycles. The first (FIG. 6a) consists in controlling the opening of the valve (7) during the engine U-turn from the position (Pr = 0 °) to the position (Pr = 180 °), i.e. the time when the volume of the chamber (1) increases (arrow F1); the fluid is sucked in (arrow F3). The second half-cycle (figure 6b) consists in ordering the opening of the valve (9) during the next half-turn of the engine from (Pr = 180 °) to (Pr = 360 °), ie the time when the volume of the chamber decreases; the fluid is discharged (arrow F2). FIG. 7 represents the pressure difference (ΔP) measured by the sensor (5) during the two half-cycles explained above and which corresponds to a suction phase consecutive to the opening of the valve (7) of on the one hand, and a delivery phase corresponding to the opening of the valve (9) on the other hand. Under these conditions, a flow of fluid may be generated in both directions by reversing the operation of the valves (7) and (9), or else may not be, if one of the two valves is kept open and the another closed while the engine is running, as illustrated by FIG. 3b. These two particular operating modes, characteristic of the invention, are essential for the application described later. In addition, it is possible to add other valve-restriction pairs on the same variable volume chamber, in order to create a multi-input / multi-output pumping system, as will be explained in the example of supply circuit according to the invention described below.

Among the other functions that the cell according to the invention can play, one can also cite the emptying of a pressure tank to the benefit in particular of another tank. It suffices for this to simultaneously open the two valves associated respectively with these two reservoirs.

In addition, the configuration of a circuit implementing a cell according to the invention allows direct measurement of a pressure by means of the sensor (5) by direct connection of the chamber (1) with the member whose wants to measure pressure. The valve which controls this downstream member is then kept in the open position, the engine is stopped and the pressure sensor (5) is then directly in communication, via the chamber (1), with the said member not shown here but whose an example will be given later.

If the fluid transported comprises several phases, the pressure diagram does not appear as in FIG. 7 but on the contrary as illustrated in FIG. 8. Zones (z) of clearly visible disturbance appear on the diagram ΔP = f (Pr) and are the image of variation in viscosity of a two-phase fluid (for example: ink plus air). This is an additional function that a cell in accordance with the invention can perform, namely the detection of homogeneity faults in the fluid transported. We can thus detect the presence of air bubbles for example in the ink conveyed. The profile shown in Figure 8 is only an example, knowing that any profile of the diagram moving away from a sinusoid, while all the other parameters are correct, highlights a multi-phasic fluid.

The operation of a cell according to the invention, it should be noted, differs from the conventional operation of a membrane pump and non-return valves.

Having previously described the basic multifunction cell according to the invention in its main modes of operation, an application of such cells is now described so that in combination with ink and solvent tanks, they constitute a original hydraulic supply circuit capable on the one hand of supplying ink to a continuous ink jet print head, and on the other hand of recovering the ink not used for printing, ink which is collected at the level a recovery gutter.

Such a circuit according to the invention is illustrated by means of FIG. 10a in a static configuration, all the valves being in the closed position. This circuit includes four tanks, two of which are removable. The reservoir (15) is a cartridge containing ink (30) in reserve, not yet used. This reservoir (15) is removable. The reservoir (16) is a cartridge containing the pure solvent (31) of the ink used. This reserve solvent (31) makes it possible to top up the solvent necessary to maintain the viscosity of the ink used and recycled in the system. Maintaining the viscosity of the ink of the jet, is linked to an evaporation of the solvent during recycling of the ink. This reservoir (16) is also removable.

The reservoir (18) containing the ink (34) functionally fulfills the role of a pressure accumulator which is used in order to transform the pulsed flow rate of the cell when it is used in the pumping cell, into a constant flow rate at fixed pressure, and directly intended for the formation of the jet. This reservoir contains a pocket of air (180) under pressure which acts as a shock absorber. This air pocket (180) is renewed each time the printer is started as will be explained below.

The role of the reservoir (17) is to receive the recovery ink (33) and the air returning from the gutter (22), and to separate them. The ink necessary to maintain the pressure in the accumulator (18) is taken from this reservoir. The reservoir (17) has a volume equivalent to the accumulator (18), for reasons explained below.

A).Each of these four tanks (15, 16, 17, 18) is connected, in accordance with the invention, by a general pipe (66), to a first variable-volume chamber (1) via a valve couple -restriction (9-10) for the reservoir (18); (7-8) for the reservoir (17); (11-12) for the tank (16); and (13-14) for the reservoir (15). All these restrictions, as has already been said previously, are of the type described by means of FIG. 2. All of these cells, the heart of which is the chamber (1), bears the general reference (A).

The pressure sensor (5) is connected to this first chamber (1) and allows, all in all, checks and measurements corresponding to the functions already described and which are explained below in the application considered. One of the characteristics of this supply circuit is that it has only one sensor, the pressure sensor (5), and that this single sensor (5) allows all the measures necessary for the proper functioning of the assembly, namely the pressure measurement of the ink supplying the jet, the viscosity measurement of the ink, the level control of the reservoir (18) during the regeneration of the air pocket, the measurement of the empty level of the reservoir (17), the measurement of the low level and the empty level of the solvent tank (16), the measurement of the viscosity of the ink in the tank (15) parameter linked in particular to the temperature, the measurement of the low level and of the level empty ink tank (15), the synchronism of operation of the valves with the position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4). As can be seen, and it should also be emphasized, this single pressure sensor (5) alone replaces all the sensors that are necessarily encountered in supply circuits of currently known types.

A second variable volume chamber (23) also cooperates with a plurality of valves; this combination is referenced (B). Its essential function is to recover the ink from the jet (21) at the level of the gutter (22). This second chamber (23) is in fact combined with a set of three valves (29, 24, 25) whose functions will be explained below. This second cell has no restrictions insofar as, being coupled mechanically to the eccentric (3) common to the first chamber (1), the synchronism of operation of the valves which are attached to it, results from the synchronism of the chamber (1). Such a combination of two sets (A) and (B) according to the invention, therefore coupled to a single motor (4) and a single sensor (5), further contributes to the compactness of the circuit. Reference has been made to (A) the cell corresponding to the assembly comprising the chamber (1), more particularly linked to the supply of the head (T), and (B) the cell corresponding to the assembly comprising the chamber (23 ) which manages the recovery of the ink at the level of the gutter (22). This is connected to the valve (25) by the pipe (22), the valve (25) being itself connected to the general pipe (67) of the assembly (B). The valve (29) serves as a coupling between the two pipes (66) and (67) while the valve (24) is connected on the one hand to the reservoir (17), and on the other hand to the pipe (67).

Le jet d'encre non utilisé est récupéré au niveau d'une gouttière de récupération (22).The functions of the valves (19) and (28) are directly linked to the operation of the jet (21) emitted by the print head (T) and are part of the known art, in particular by the patent application of the Applicant already cited above. For this, this combination is fictitiously isolated from the rest of the circuit by means of a rectangle (150) in broken lines. Note that the valve (19) is respectively connected to the pressure tank (18) on the one hand, and to the head (T) which generates the ink jet (21) on the other hand. The valve (28), called the purge valve, is connected to the valves (24, 25, 29) of the cell (B). The unused ink jet is recovered at a recovery gutter (22).

The operation of the supply circuit according to the invention is now described for the main phases during which the cells according to the invention perform their multiple functions already described above.

Le diagramme correspondant illustrant l'évolution de la position (Pr) du rotor en fonction du temps (tp) est représenté sur la figure 9.It should be noted beforehand that, in all cases, except when indicated, the motor (4) rotates at constant speed cyclically, so that the two variable volume chambers (1) and (23) which are coupled, each generate their volume cyclically. This rotation cycle (T1 + T2) presents at each turn, a stop for a time (T1) necessary for the measurement of a static pressure, pressure measurement not influenced by the differential pressures induced by flow rates within the restrictions (8 ), (10), (12) and (14). This allocated time allows the measurement of static pressures, of the ink of the cartridge (30), of the solvent of the cartridge (31), and of the ink under pressure. (34) of the reservoir (18). The usefulness of these measures will be explained later. The corresponding diagram illustrating the evolution of the position (Pr) of the rotor as a function of time (tp) is shown in FIG. 9.

The essential operating cycles are therefore carried out by electrically controlling the various valves synchronously at the instantaneous position (Pr) of the motor rotor (4) as already explained above.

To facilitate understanding, a succession of figures has been presented (FIGS. 10b to 10i) each corresponding to the situation in which the various valves concerned are found, for a given operating phase. Those which are open (passage of the fluid) for the sequence considered are shown in solid lines, the others being closed (blocking of the fluid) are shown in dotted lines. When the valve in question is kept permanently open (passing), the entire coil (b) is shaded and the drawer (t) shown in solid lines. When the valve is successively opened and closed at each half-cycle, the coil (b) is half shaded and the drawer (t) diagrammatically shown in dark dotted lines. All the valves not concerned in the described operating phase are therefore dotted clearly.

During the operation of the printer, the valve (19) is open, the head (T) is supplied and the jet (21) emitted. Such a representation allows at a glance to see the path followed by the fluid between the various elements of the circuit and in particular the transfer of ink and solvent from one reservoir to the other, the supply of the head (T) and the recovery of unused ink from the gutter (22) to the reservoir (17).

Chacune de ces principales fonctions est maintenant reprise plus en détail au moyen des figures 10b à 10i:Each of these main functions is now taken up in more detail by means of FIGS. 10b to 10i:

a) Maintien de la pression de l'accumulateur (18), durant le fonctionnement du jet (figure 10b) :a) Maintaining the pressure of the accumulator (18), during the operation of the jet (FIG. 10b) :

When the valve (19) is open and the jet (21) is present, the volume of ink (34) of the accumulator (18) which is subjected to the pressure of the air pocket (180) that it contains, decreases over time, during the flow of the jet (21), which increases the volume of air (180) and results in a drop in pressure. When reference is made to a dose in the description, it is the volume corresponding to that generated by the piston (p) of the chamber (1) with, as part of this sequence, the help of the valves (7) and (9).

In order to maintain the pressure in the reservoir (18), it is necessary to monitor it. This is done periodically during the downtimes (T1) of the motor rotor, by means of the sensor (5). Obviously, this measurement period is less than that of regeneration of the ink in the reservoir (18). In other words, the successive measurements of the static pressure of the reservoir (18) are made at a frequency greater than that of the doses of ink which are necessary to maintain the pressure in the reservoir (18) (jet flow) .

b) Mesure de la viscosité de l'encre alimentant le jet et ajustement de cette viscosité en fonction d'une consigne donnée (figures 10c, 10d et 10e):b) Measuring the viscosity of the ink supplying the jet and adjusting this viscosity as a function of a given setpoint (Figures 10c, 10d and 10e) :

Keeping constant operating parameters over time is essential to ensure high print quality. The viscosity of the ink must therefore be checked regularly in order to be corrected by adding solvent if it is higher than a set point, the value of which is determined in a manner described below.

The viscosity of the ink is regularly checked using a complete cycle of rotation of the rotor, leaving the valve (9) open, as shown in Figure 10c. The differential pressure (ΔP) allows the viscosity of the ink (34) to be measured. This viscosity measurement cycle is carried out when no addition of ink is necessary in the reservoir (18).

This cycle also makes it possible to homogenize the ink in the reservoir (18) when it has just received a dose of solvent, by creating an alternative mixing of the ink. Thus, when an addition of solvent to the reservoir (18) has just been made as explained below, this cycle is repeated several times before being used for the viscosity measurement.

The viscosity of the ink used apart from any evaporation of solvent depends on the temperature. Also the viscosity setpoint must take into account the variation in viscosity of the ink as a function of the temperature. To do this, the viscosity setpoint of the ink used is fixed by measuring the viscosity of the new ink of the cartridge (15). This measurement is made by measuring the differential pressure (ΔP) during a cycle of the rotor where the valve (13) remains permanently open (Figure (10d). This eliminates the constraints associated with the use of different types of ink which would not have the same properties depending on the temperature.

When the viscosity of the ink contained in the reservoir (18) is considered to be too high, a dose of solvent (31) from the cartridge (16) is sent to the reservoir (18). To do this, as shown in FIG. 10e, the two valves (11) and (9) are open and the cell (A) by means of (1, 11, 9) functions as a pumping cell, as shown in the Figure 10e.

c) Mesure du niveau du réservoir (17) et ajout d'encre dans le réservoir (18) (figure 10f) :c) Measuring the level of the reservoir (17) and adding ink to the reservoir (18) (Figure 10f) :

When an addition of ink is necessary in the accumulator tank (18), the ink is drawn from the tank (17). The two valves (7) and (9) are open and operate with the chamber (1) in the pumping cell (FIG. 10b). If, during this addition, an air intake is noted (tank (17) empty) in the form of a defect in the differential pressure diagram appearing at the terminals of the restriction (8), as explained above and illustrated in FIG. 8 during the suction half-cycle, then the delivery half-cycle is executed by keeping the valve (7) open instead of opening the valve (9) in order to push the air back into the tank ( 17). In the next cycle, the addition of the ink dose not being made and the pressure in the reservoir (18) continuing to be too low, a new addition of ink is made, but starting this time of the ink cartridge (15), and this consecutively using the valves (13) and (9) operating with the chamber (1) in pumping cell, as shown schematically by means of Figure (10f).

d) Mesure des niveaux bas et vides des cartouches (15) et 16) :d) Measuring the low and empty levels of the cartridges (15) and 16) :

The removable ink and solvent cartridges (15) and (16) each consist of a flexible envelope containing the liquid (30) and (31), this flexible envelope being protected by a rigid envelope.

The flexible envelope containing the liquid (ink or solvent) has the particularity, by the design of its shape, of being all the less deformable when the remaining volume of liquid is low. This results in the appearance of a depression of the liquid in the pockets, the greater the lower the volume of liquid remaining.

During an ink (30) or solvent (31) sampling cycle, the static pressure of the pocket concerned is measured while holding the valve corresponding (13) or (11) open during the stop time (T1) of the rotor (Figure 9). The level of liquid (30, 31) in the deformable pockets is considered to be low when the measured vacuum is less than a given setpoint.

An attempt to take liquid in the cartridges (15) and (16), when the corresponding pockets are empty, results in an absence of flow through the restrictions (14) and (12). This absence of flow appears at the level of the pressure diagram recorded, by a zero differential pressure (flat diagram) which implies the empty level of the cartridges. An important remark to make is that, in the case of an empty cartridge, a zero differential pressure due to a nonexistent flow is associated with a static pressure in strong depression compared to the surrounding pressure, whereas, in the case of absence of a cartridge, a zero differential pressure is associated with a static pressure equal to the surrounding pressure.

e) Maintien de la poche d'air sous pression nécessaire au fonctionnement de l'accumulateur (18) (figure (10g) :e) Keeping the air pocket under pressure necessary for the operation of the accumulator (18) (figure (10g) :

In order for the pressure accumulator tank (18) to play its role well, it is necessary to guarantee a minimum volume of air therein. The free air contained in the reservoir is always subject to a slow but certain dissolution in the ink (34) and it is therefore necessary, in order to maintain the effectiveness of the pressure accumulator function of the reservoir (18), to restore regularly this volume of air. This is made possible by emptying the ink tank, allowing outside air to enter the tank if it is under vacuum (result of a "lack of air" by dissolution in the ink during operation), and by filling it with ink again until the jet operating pressure, this set of operations is done before each start of the jet.

This is done as follows. The reservoir (18) being under pressure, it is initially emptied of its ink by opening the two valves (7) and (9) simultaneously, engine (4) stopped, the air under pressure driving out the ink (34) in the reservoir (17) faster than a cell operating in a pumping cell, the flow rate of which is of the same order as that of the jet. The pressure recorded during this emptying is the median pressure between the pressure of the reservoir (18) and the surrounding pressure. As soon as this pressure measured by the sensor (5) is practically equal to the surrounding pressure, the motor is used again creating a pumping function, the valve (9) being open during the suction half-cycle, and the valve (7) being open during the delivery half-cycle.

This reverse operation is carried out until there is no longer any flow of liquid through the restriction (10), which means that the reservoir (18) is completely empty. The volume of ink sucked in by the pumping cell has placed the reservoir (18) in a vacuum state. The ink (34) initially present in the reservoir (18) is then entirely contained in the reservoir (17).

The valves (9), (29) and (25) are then opened in order to allow outside air coming from the gutter (22) to regenerate the air volume of the tank (18).

The last operation consists of taking up the ink contained in the reservoir (17) and replacing it under the pressure of the volume of regenerated air from the reservoir (18), by operating the pumping cell, the valve (7) being open. during the suction half-cycle, and the valve (9) being open during the delivery half-cycle.

During the low-pressure emptying and filling phases of the reservoir (18), in order to increase the flow rate, the chamber (23) is preferably coupled to the chamber (1) thanks to the permanent opening of the valve (29 ) which is used in this case for coupling between the two chambers.

f) Aspiration du jet par la gouttière (22) (figure 10h) :f) Suction of the jet by the gutter (22) (figure 10h) :

Le mélange air-encre récupéré au niveau de la gouttière (22) par la conduite (26) est refoulé dans le réservoir (17).The suction of the ink jet by the gutter (22) is possible by the use of the cell using the valves (25), (24) associated with the chamber (23) functioning as a pumping cell, the chamber (23) being coupled, as said above, to the motor (4). The air-ink mixture recovered from the gutter (22) through the pipe (26) is discharged into the tank (17).

The valves in particular are the first damage. An ink circuit according to the invention makes it possible to avoid this problem because it makes it possible to fill all the valves with solvent before the machine stops, and therefore, even if the solvent dries, these valves will not be glued because the solvent does not have sticky resins. This solvent cleaning is done in a very simple in as many engine cycles as there are valves to be filled, taking for each during the suction half-cycle, valve (11) open, a dose of solvent in the cartridge (31), and injecting into the valve concerned by opening it.

This is done for the valves (13), (7) and (9) as well as for the valves (24) and (25), these being filled by simultaneously opening the valve (29).

h) Procédure automatique de nettoyage complet, arrêt long ou changement d'encre :h) Automatic complete cleaning procedure, long shutdown or ink change :

The first phase consists in completely transferring the ink from the reservoir (17) into the reservoir (18) by operating the cell (7), (1) and (9). The second phase consists in letting the ink contained under pressure in the reservoir (18) escape by the gutter (22) by opening the valves (9), (29), (25), and by pumping the remainder of possible ink by the cell (9), (29), (25) by means of the two chambers (1) and (23) coupled. The third phase consists in transferring the solvent contained in the cartridge (31) into the reservoir (17) then into the reservoir (18). This pressurized solvent is then expelled into the gutter (22) after rinsing the nozzle body of the head (T) (valves (19, 28, 25). All these operations allow the entire circuit to be rinsed. fully automatic feeding, all that is required is to correctly control the different valves and to make the cell groups (A) and (B) operate by pumping.

Un autre exemple de réalisation d'un circuit d'alimentation selon l'invention est illustré au moyen des figures 10j, 10k et 10m.Another embodiment of a supply circuit according to the invention is illustrated by means of FIGS. 10j, 10k and 10m.

As shown in Figure 10j which is a static representation of the circuit, it has four tanks, two of which are removable. The reservoir (15) is a cartridge containing ink (30) in reserve, not yet used. The reservoir (15) is removable.

The reservoir (18) containing the ink (34) functionally fulfills the role of a pressure accumulator which is used in order to transform the pulsed flow rate of the cell when it is used in the pumping cell, into a constant flow rate at fixed pressure, and directly intended for the formation of jet. This reservoir contains a pocket of air (180) under pressure which acts as a shock absorber. This air pocket (180) is renewed each time the printer is started.

The role of the reservoir (17) is to receive the recovery ink (33) and the air returning from the gutter (22), and to separate them. The ink necessary to maintain the pressure in the accumulator (18) is taken from this reservoir.

All of these cells, the heart of which is the chamber (1), has the general reference (A).

Cette combinaison est référencée (B).A second variable volume chamber (23) also cooperates with a plurality of valves. This combination is referenced (B).

This second cell has no restriction insofar as, being mechanically coupled to the eccentric (3) common to the first chamber (1), the synchronism of the valves which are attached to it, results from the synchronism of the chamber (1) . Such a combination of two assemblies (A) and (B) in accordance with the invention, therefore coupled to a single motor (4) and to a single sensor (5) contributes to the compactness of the circuit. We have, as previously, referenced (A) the cell corresponding to the assembly comprising the chamber (1) more specifically linked to the supply of the head (T), and (B) the cell corresponding to the assembly comprising the room (23).

In this configuration, the pump (B) only sucks air, which has the effect of significantly reducing the torques at the piston, unlike what happened in the previous variant where this pump (B) sucked a two-phase fluid.

A characteristic of this circuit also consists in connecting, by means of a pipe (220), the reservoir (17), said buffer reservoir, directly to the recovery gutter (22) and in putting this reservoir (17) in vacuum, thus transforming it into a real vacuum accumulator. This improvement avoids pulsed pumping at the level of the gutter (22) of a two-phase fluid, which would risk creating ink splashes at the level of this gutter. In addition, a valve (26) is connected on one side to the pipe (66), and on the other to a condenser (300) comprising a receptacle for the condensate (301) and an evacuation (303) of volatile products, this condenser (300) also being connected to the valve (25) to through a restriction (31).

Figures 10k and 10m illustrate the circuit portions and the valves involved. Those concerned by the function, for the sequence considered, are represented in solid lines, the others are illustrated in dotted lines. When the valve in question is maintained, in a constant (open) state, the entire coil (b) is shaded and the slide (t) shown in solid lines. When the valve is successively opened and closed at each half-cycle, the coil (b) is half shaded and the drawer (t) diagrammatically shown in dark dotted lines.

Only the two stages have been shown corresponding, on the one hand for FIG. 10k, to the depression of the reservoir (17) ensuring the recovery of the ink at the level of the gutter, via the pipe (220), on the other share for Figure 10m pumping the condensate to return it to the tank (17). In fact, the other functions are substantially identical to those which have been described previously but which are used here for clarity.

a) Maintien de la pression de l'accumulateur (18) durant le fonctionnement du jet :a) Maintaining the pressure of the accumulator (18) during the operation of the jet :

When the valve (19) is open and the jet (21) is present, the volume of ink (34) of the accumulator (18) which is subjected to the pressure of the air pocket (180) that it contains, decreases over time, during the flow of the jet (21), which increases the volume of air (180) and results in a drop in pressure. Maintaining the pressure, and therefore the volume of ink contained (34), is achieved by adding a dose of ink to the reservoir (18) coming from the reservoir (17), and this thanks to the combination (1, 7, 9) which is operated in a pumping cell as has been explained above in particular by means of FIGS. 1a and 1b.

Obviously, this period measurement is less than that of regenerating the ink in the reservoir (18). In other words, the successive measurements of the static pressure of the reservoir (18) are made at a frequency greater than that of the doses of ink which are necessary to maintain the pressure in the reservoir (18) (jet flow) .

b) Mesure de la viscosité de l'encre alimentant le jet et ajustement de cette viscosité en fonction d'une consigne donnée:b) Measuring the viscosity of the ink supplying the jet and adjusting this viscosity as a function of a given instruction :

Keeping constant operating parameters over time is essential to ensure high print quality. The viscosity of the ink must therefore be checked regularly in order to be corrected by adding solvent if it is higher than a set point, the value of which is determined in a manner described below.

The viscosity of the ink is regularly checked using a complete cycle of rotation of the rotor, leaving the valve (9) open.

This measurement is made by measuring the differential pressure (ΔP) during a cycle of the rotor where the valve (13) remains permanently open (FIG. 10d). This eliminates the constraints associated with the use of different types of ink which would not have the same properties depending on the temperature.

When the viscosity of the ink contained in the reservoir (18) is considered to be too high, a dose of solvent (31) from the cartridge (16) is sent to the reservoir (18). To do this, the two valves (11) and (9) are open and the cell (A) by means of (1, 11, 9) operates as a pumping cell.

c) Mesure du niveau du réservoir (17) et ajout d'encre dans le réservoir (18):c) Measuring the level of the reservoir (17) and adding ink to the reservoir (18) :

When an addition of ink is necessary in the accumulator tank (18), the ink is drawn from the tank (17). The two valves (7) and (9) are open and operate with the chamber (1) in the pumping cell. If, during this addition, an air intake is observed (tank (17) empty) in the form of a fault in the differential pressure diagram appearing at the terminals of the restriction (8) during the suction half-cycle, then the delivery half-cycle is performed by keeping the valve (7) open instead of opening the valve (9) in order to push the air back into the tank (17). In the next cycle, the addition of the ink dose not being made and the pressure in the reservoir (18) continuing to be too low, a new addition of ink is made, but starting this time of the ink cartridge (15), and this consecutively using the valves 913) and (9) operating with the chamber (1) in the pumping cell.

d) Mesure des niveaux bas et vide des cartouches (15) et (16):d) Measurement of the low and empty levels of the cartridges (15) and (16) :

The removable ink and solvent cartridges (15) and (16) each consist of a flexible envelope containing the liquid (30) and (31), this flexible envelope being protected by a rigid envelope.

The flexible envelope containing the liquid (ink or solvent) has the particularity, by the design of its shape, of being all the less deformable when the remaining volume of liquid is low. This results in the appearance of a depression of the liquid in the pockets, the greater the lower the volume of liquid remaining.

During an ink (30) or solvent (31) sampling cycle, the static pressure of the bag concerned is measured while keeping the corresponding valve (13) or (11) open during the downtime ( T1) of the rotor. The liquid level (30,31) in the deformable pockets is considered to be low when the measured vacuum is lower than a given setpoint.

An important remark to make is that, in the case of an empty cartridge, a zero differential pressure due to a nonexistent flow is associated with a static pressure in strong depression compared to the surrounding pressure, whereas, in the absence of a cartridge, a zero differential pressure is associated with a static pressure equal to the surrounding pressure.

e) Aspiration du jet au niveau de la gouttière (22) (figure 10k):e) Suction of the jet at the level of the gutter (22) (figure 10k) :

As shown in Figure 101, the air is pumped into the tank (17) by means of the valves (24,25) connected by the pipe (67) to the cell (23), which results in putting this tank (17) in depression. It then acts as a vacuum accumulator. The pipe (220) connects this reservoir (17) in depression to the gutter (22) so that the ink jet is directly recovered, at the level of this gutter (22), via this pipe (220).

As has been said previously, such a configuration avoids the risks of splashing, at the level of the gutter (22), which may result from the pulsed pumping of a two-phase fluid, ink plus air.

f) Aspiration du condensat et sa récupération dans le réservoir (17) (figure 10m):f) Suction of the condensate and its recovery in the tank (17) (figure 10m) :

The air being pumped into the tank (17) can cause a significant amount of solvent, this is why the assembly passes through a condenser (300) in which the solvent is deposited in the form of condensate (301), the air evacuated by the evacuation (303), the orifice of which is brought as close as possible to the gutter (22), so that if traces of volatile products still remain, the pollution of the environment is reduced to the maximum.

The condensate (301) is reinjected into the tank (17) by activating the valves (26,7) coupled to the cell (1) by the pipe (66a) and (66).

g) Maintien de la poche d'air sous pression nécessaire au fonctionnement de l'accumulateur (18):g) Keeping the air pocket under pressure necessary for the operation of the accumulator (18) :

In order for the pressure accumulator tank (18) to play its role well, it is necessary to guarantee a minimum volume of air therein. The free air contained in the reservoir is always subject to a slow but certain dissolution in the ink (34) and it is therefore necessary, in order to maintain the effectiveness of the pressure accumulator function of the reservoir (18), to restore regularly this volume of air. This is made possible by emptying the ink tank, allowing outside air to enter the tank if it is under vacuum (result of a "lack of air" by dissolution in the ink during operation), and refilling it with ink again until the operating pressure of the jet, this set of operations being performed before each start of the jet.

As soon as this pressure measured by the sensor (5) is practically equal to the surrounding pressure, the motor is again used creating a pumping function, the valve (9) being open during the suction half-cycle, and the valve (7) being open during the delivery half-cycle.

The valves (9,26) are then opened to allow the entry of air freely into the tank (18).

The valves in particular are the first damage. An ink circuit according to the invention makes it possible to avoid this problem because it makes it possible to fill all the valves with solvent before the machine stops, and therefore, even if the solvent dries, these valves will not be glued because the solvent does not have sticky resins. This cleaning in solvent is done in a very simple way in as many engine cycles as there are valves to fill, taking for each during the suction half-cycle, valve (11) open, a dose of solvent in the cartridge (31), and by injecting it into the valve concerned by opening it.

This is done for valves (13), (7), (9) and (26), as well as for valves (24) and (25) for which the solvent is drawn from the condenser (300).

i) Procédure automatique de nettoyage complet, arrêt long ou changement d'encre:i) Automatic complete cleaning procedure, long shutdown or ink change :

The first phase consists in completely transferring the ink from the reservoir (17) into the reservoir (18) by operating the cell (7), (1) and (9). The second phase consists in letting the ink contained under pressure in the reservoir (18) escape by the gutter (22) and by pumping any residual ink through the valves (9) and (26) by means of the Room 1). The third phase consists in transferring the solvent contained in the cartridge (31) into the reservoir (17) then into the reservoir (18). This pressurized solvent is then expelled into the gutter (22) after rinsing the nozzle body of the head (T). All these operations allow the entire supply circuit to be rinsed completely automatically. It suffices to correctly control the different valves and to make the cell groups (A) and (B) operate by pumping.

In a nonlimiting example of embodiment of a circuit according to the invention, the chamber (1) has a generated volume of 0.4 cm³ with a stroke of 1 mm, and the chamber (23) a generated volume of 2 cm³ with a stroke of 1 mm. The stepping motor (4) with a power of 20 Watts has a rotation cycle (T2) of 03 seconds and a stop time (T1) of 100 milliseconds. The total overall volume of the ink circuit is close to 500 cm³; that of the reservoirs (17) and (18) is of the order of 260 cm³ and that of the removable cartridges (15) and (16), of approximately 500 cm³. The volume of pipe (66) must be very small compared to the volume generated by the cell (1). In an exemplary embodiment, the ratio chosen is close to 4. It is also necessary that the pipes corresponding to the restrictions (14, 12, 18) have volumes greater than the volume generated by the cell (1). In an exemplary embodiment, this ratio is 2. Finally, the restriction pipe (10) must be as small as possible.

As has already been said previously, such a power supply circuit according to the invention allows access to multiple functions although its structure is extremely compact and its operation very simple. It finds its applications in particular in the field of inkjet printing, not only in the context of industrial marking, but also in that of office automation.
