Definitions
- the same control and the same rigor can be implemented in terms of body size if one bases oneself on the vertical axis of symmetry of the body from the front and if one expands more or less on both sides of this axis the images of the ornaments photographed on mannequins having a normal build.
- the method of shooting consists, by a reverse mounting of that characteristic of the installation placed at the disposal of the people who are observed, to make pose the mannequin wearing the finery in front of a semi-transparent mirror behind which is arranged, in the plan of his image, a shoulder pattern adjustable in height and in relation to which the mannequin can locate his own, after adjustment to his size, to ensure that all the photos will have the shoulders calibrated at the same height.
- the semi-transparent mirror is limited to the upper part of the mannequin's body, since it only serves to put the shoulders in place, and the camera is placed below and behind this mirror.
- the optical axis of the installation is broken at 90 ° by the mirror Ml and broken down into two orthogonal half-axes, the one observer side the other projector side.
- the light beam f, f2 projected on the screen E is returned by a trapezoidal mirror at 45 ° M2 to which we will return below.
- the entire installation is housed in a conventional structure composed of uprights 2 and upper 3 and lower 4 crosspieces between which panels 5 are mounted.
- the observer side cell is constituted by an approximately square chamber 6, reserved in front of the mirror, and by a somewhat wider chamber 7, open at the rear and capable of being closed by a curtain 8.
- the side walls of the two chambers are connected by inclined faces 9 in which are mounted projectors 10 intended to illuminate the face of the person P and which can be higher or lower together in these inclined sides along cables not shown, thanks to a control system to which we will return below.
- the light beams of these two projectors are slightly raised upwards, so as to illuminate the faces slightly “from below”; this is to prevent these beams from "catching" the shoulders of the illuminated person inside the dark room 7 and in order to ensure that only the face of the latter is illuminated in the image visible behind the mirror M.
- the projector 1. and its magazine 12 are mounted on a platform 13 located halfway up a crew made in the form of a cage with uprights 14 and tubular cross members 15 which can slide on two parallel rails 16 and 17 mounted on a base 18, the rail 17 is slightly lowered and moved back relative to the rail 16 in order to free up the space necessary for the circulation of the trapezoidal mirror M2, the shape of which corresponds to the "45 °" section of the beam with rectangular section f1 from projector 1.
- This mirror is held between two frames 19 and 20 respectively ( Figure 3).
- the frame 19 is fixed to the upright 14 a while the frame 20 is fixed to the upright 14 b; both can rotate in the direction of the arrows F1 under the effect of a command to which we will return below.
- a motor 23 actuating the cable 24 by a pulley 25 makes it possible to raise or lower the entire crew along the rails 16 and 17.
- the headlamp 1 and its mirror M2 can be brought into the low position M'2 (FIGS. 4 and 5) by simple control of the motor 23.
- the trapezoidal mirror M2 sends a rectangular beam towards the screen E and that if the crew is moved along the rails 16 and 17, it is very easy to reduce in height and in width the rectangle projected onto the screen, without modifying the lower horizontal base of this rectangle.
- the slope of the rails 16 and 17 is equal to the slope of the lowest radius of the beam projected on the screen.
- the incorporation of the mirror into the crew of the projector makes it possible to break the projected beam at 90 ° - and therefore to make the cell shown in FIG. 1, more compact, on the projector side - without the image moving sideways. on the screen E, as would be the case if the mirror M2 was larger and fixed on the partition 15 of the cell.
- the second adjustment relates to an easy-to-operate coupling between the respective extreme positions, of these elements as shown in FIG. 5 in which the projector is in the low position with its mirror in the M'2 position, while the projectors 10 are themselves placed at the height corresponding to the face of a person (small) whose image is to be connected with the image 11 '(small) projected on the screen E.
- the first adjustment must, however, be made from a projection of a slide representing a "standard” mannequin and we perceive, in this regard, that once this adjustment is made, it is essential that all slides are “aligned”, that is to say “calibrated” on the same standard dummy so that the adjustment thus operated can be normally used afterwards, with all the slides.
- the shooting is carried out on a mannequin 30 who wears the set to be photographed and to which we will provide reference elements allowing him to position himself perfectly in a virtual caliber which he perceives but which will be invisible on the photograph taken by the photographer 31.
- the installation comprises a vertical one-way mirror 32, sliding vertically and has between two uprights 33 the verticality of which is controlled by means of spirit levels 34 mounted on their feet.
- the mirror 32 is at a sufficient height (about 1 meter) so that the photograph can be taken by means of a camera 35 placed below and behind it.
- the mannequin is invited to pose in a place identified by a mark 36 arranged on the ground (generally on a carpet) and invisible to photography. Behind the mirror 32 and at equal distance is disposed a panel 37 also on uprights 38 adjustable in height and on which is carried a test pattern 39, white or bright, illustrating the hollow of a neck and a shoulder.
- the target in height so that it is placed in height at the hollow of the mannequin's neck. Consequently, the latter has a caliber in relation to which it can perfectly position itself above the mark 36; if necessary, by "lending” themselves through attitudes if the successive models to be photographed are worn with shoes with more or less high heels.
- the mannequin's only mission is to "position” his attitudes so that the image of his neck in the M2 mirror comes to "stick" against the target.
- the shoulder line of the projected images will always be the same whatever the slides and whatever the size of the mannequin which will have been photographed. In this way, it is perfectly possible to calibrate the coupling of the motors respectively actuating the vertical displacements of the projector 1 and of the projectors 10 so that at any shoulder height of images 11 and 11 1 corresponds to the suitable height of the projectors 10.
- This maneuver can be performed by the person himself with a simple command button.
- FIG. 8 thus represents the slide which makes it possible to carry out this "measurement” in a rigorous manner and without an operator.
- a samurai garment ( Figure 10) worn by a mannequin with the diverence of the time can be photographed and projected following a special test pattern, allowing to tighten the projection to the size of a contemporary observer.
- ornaments have been described as being garments whose images are to be connected.
- the same processes can be applied to adornments such as jewelry or spectacle frames, the images of which should be superimposed on those of people called to observe themselves.
Abstract
Installation making it possible to successively adjust, on a screen E, the size of a series of standard images to be merged with the image of a person P, to allow this person to observe through a mirror M the mixed images thus obtained. The projector 1 and its mirror M2 are slidably mounted on a funicular whose rails 16 and 17 have a slope equal to the slope of the lowest radius of the projected beam.
Description
- - on the one hand, the own virtual image that anyone who stands in front of a mirror can observe
- - And, on the other hand, the actual images of adornments (in particular of clothing) which can be formed in the plane of this virtual image, for example on a projection screen.
Installations allowing the realization and the self-observation of such images have already been described in the French patent n ° 1,544,746 of 18/9/67 and in the certificate of addition n ° 93.296 of 16/11/67; such installations are particularly desired in the fields of clothing, spectacle frames, jewelry, makeup, etc., because they theoretically allow a plurality of customers to conveniently review themselves large collections whose size and processing are reduced to those of simple collections of slides.
- - on the one hand in the difficulty of "connecting" the natural image properly with the successive images of the ornaments,
- . so much because of the dispersion of the sizes and the corpulences of the various people called to observe themselves one after the other,
- . that due to the difficulty of achieving a rigorous positioning of the projected images, if only because of the subjugations inherent in-shots (these being carried out in random conditions on mannequins who do not have concordant marks allowing them to position themselves rigorously, in the field of view, at the location required by the projections to be made),
- - on the other hand and therefore, by the need to assign to these installations a projection operator capable, thanks to appropriate equipment, of rectifying anomalies of this type and of adjusting each projected image accordingly,
- . on the one hand, its own differences resulting from the shooting,
- . and on the other hand the particular size and corpulence of the various people who are observed in the installation.
These installations are therefore currently well received in principle by professionals who sell collections of all kinds, but they remain marginal; customers - that is to say the people who observe themselves - indeed fail to identify with the images with enthusiasm since, even if these defects can be quickly corrected by a skilled operator, mixed images present themselves at least at the start in two poorly connected, eccentric or disproportionate parts with respect to each other, both in height and body. These defects are further aggravated by the fact that the virtual image that any observer sees of himself in a mirror is three-dimensional, that is to say in relief, while the image projected on the screen is flat. Consequently, so that this inevitable difference is not noticed too much, it is essential that there is no other difference between the proper image and the projected image; this so that the attention of the person who is observed is immediately captured by the unusual sensation of "discovering" dressed in an ornament in a fraction of a second, as if by magic. As soon as a discrepancy appears between the clean and projected images, the "magic" aspect of the illusion vanishes and the installation of presentation of the collection is perceived in a negative way because of its artificial nature, then sometimes revealed in aspects which can be cruelly frustrating.
- - not only in size (that is to say in height) and body,
- - but still thanks to a very simple little "presetting" procedure, which allows you to make any necessary adjustments before any projection of any adornment image (All adjustments being made "blank", it that is to say in the absence of any projection of adornment, so that, from the first of the projections, the first adornment "falls" perfectly into the measurements of the person who is observing himself)
- - And, finally, so that all the ornaments which follow the first continue to "fall" in the same perfect way without the hazards due to accidents of centering or proportions when shooting.
- - if the image projected on screen, that is to say the image of the adornment, can be "made to measure" of the person who is observed thanks to various conventional devices (reflection of the beam projected on a mirror with adjustable deformation; recoil, advancement or inclination of the projector relative to the screen, etc.),
- - it is still necessary that this "measurement" is done,
- . under rigorous conditions, that is to say in a controlled manner without parasitic deformations and with suitable connection of the two images to be combined,
- . and thanks to an operation which is completely independent of the projections of ornaments themselves, in order to avoid that the "marvelous" effect produced by these latter is betrayed - and therefore - completely spoiled - by direct perception , on the ornaments themselves, of their absence of "true reality".
- - conventionally, as a reference dimension, a body dimension easy to identify on the proper image reflected by the mirror is chosen, for example the height of the shoulders relative to the ground,
- - we arrange that, on all the images to be projected in series,
- . this dimension always has the same value for the same state of the projection installation
- . and so that the projected image of one of the elements of this dimension, for example that of the ground (that is to say that of the feet), is located at a predetermined location on the screen, for all the images projected and whatever the settings of the projection installation,
- . this so that the projected image can then, thanks to these adjustments, be enlarged or decreased at the level of the shoulders without the feet moving,
- - a first image is projected as a "witness" in which is represented, in the form of a test pattern, the reference dimension (that is to say the shoulder height) having a common value for the series of images of adornment to be projected and, by adjusting the projected beam, this height is adjusted on the screen to that it is connected to the proper image, for example to the "hollow" of the neck of the person being observed.
Therefore, we can be sure that all the images of adornments that will be projected later, will connect perfectly to this same "hollow" of the neck.
The same control and the same rigor can be implemented in terms of body size if one bases oneself on the vertical axis of symmetry of the body from the front and if one expands more or less on both sides of this axis the images of the ornaments photographed on mannequins having a normal build.
The realization of these vertical and / or horizontal expansions proceeds from relatively conventional techniques but which must all the same be suitably chosen and, where appropriate, adapted to the present particular application; this in particular to avoid certain optical aberrations which would be irreconcilable with obtaining the desired result, namely the illusion, as perfect as possible, that the image of the finery is "truly" the image of something which is actually worn by the person and seen as such by him; moreover, if the proper image is formed by the faces of the various people who observe each other successively, it is also necessary to adjust the lighting of these faces according to their height, it is therefore advantageous to couple this height adjustment lighting to that of the height of the projected images; in this way, the faces are suitably lit whatever the height of the projections, that is to say whatever the size of the person on the face of which these projections are called to be connected.
- - avoid any adjustment in the framing and / or in the projection of the slides,
- - and to be certain,
- . on the one hand that the "reference dimension" has the same value on each of the slides,
- . on the other hand that the "reference base" is always in the same location on each of the slides.
This method and this means of shooting make it possible, in short, to obtain truly "calibrated" slides on the ground and on the shoulder so that, if they are stacked in a stack, these elements are rigorously facing each other. others in this stack. So, once the projection installation is suitably adjusted to the size of a person, we can scroll through the images of the slides and we can be. sure that all the images of ornaments will be connected and will marry with its own image in a way as perfect for the ones as for the others.
The method of shooting consists, by a reverse mounting of that characteristic of the installation placed at the disposal of the people who are observed, to make pose the mannequin wearing the finery in front of a semi-transparent mirror behind which is arranged, in the plan of his image, a shoulder pattern adjustable in height and in relation to which the mannequin can locate his own, after adjustment to his size, to ensure that all the photos will have the shoulders calibrated at the same height. Correlatively, the semi-transparent mirror is limited to the upper part of the mannequin's body, since it only serves to put the shoulders in place, and the camera is placed below and behind this mirror. In this way, the photographer who, over his camera, sees the mannequin through the rear side of the mirror sees at the same time the image - in this same semi-transparent mirror seen from the back - the shoulder sight placed behind and above him. As a result, it is very easy for him to take the photo when, for him, the attitude of the mannequin is properly connected to the image of the target. For the overall framing of the image, it is sufficient for the photographer to position himself at a distance from the mannequin such that the lower edge of the shot corresponds to the tiptoes of the mannequin and the upper edge shaves the base of the nose by example. As soon as these conditions are met, it is absolutely certain that all the slides will be perfectly homogeneous with each other. In this way, the control of the projections can be carried out under perfect conditions.

- - and on the other hand the image, in a second mirror M1 inclined at 45 degrees on the optical axis of a translucent screen E on which slides are projected by a projector 1.
We will therefore not dwell here on describing the basic equipment or the conditions under which the "optical marriage" is carried out - by connection at the neck - of the proper image of the person P (face) and the images successive adornments, on mannequin, which are projected (without head) on the screen E from slides.
It will simply be noted that, to make the cell more compact and to be able to accommodate it in a room angle, the optical axis of the installation is broken at 90 ° by the mirror Ml and broken down into two orthogonal half-axes, the one observer side the other projector side.
To satisfy the same concern, the light beam f, f2 projected on the screen E is returned by a trapezoidal mirror at 45 ° M2 to which we will return below.
The entire installation is housed in a conventional structure composed of
The observer side cell is constituted by an approximately square chamber 6, reserved in front of the mirror, and by a somewhat wider chamber 7, open at the rear and capable of being closed by a
The side walls of the two chambers are connected by
The light beams of these two projectors are slightly raised upwards, so as to illuminate the faces slightly "from below"; this is to prevent these beams from "catching" the shoulders of the illuminated person inside the dark room 7 and in order to ensure that only the face of the latter is illuminated in the image visible behind the mirror M.
We will now describe, with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4, the projection equipment by which it is possible to make the image 11 (FIG. 1) projected on the screen E increase or decrease from the slides.
The projector 1. and its
It can therefore be seen that the trapezoidal mirror M2 sends a rectangular beam towards the screen E and that if the crew is moved along the
It suffices that the slope of the
- - the feet do not move,
- - the size is reduced or increased in a proportional way, that is to say that the shoulder height goes up or down, if we circulate the projector along the
16 and 17 of its funicular.rails
It will be noted that the incorporation of the mirror into the crew of the projector makes it possible to break the projected beam at 90 ° - and therefore to make the cell shown in FIG. 1, more compact, on the projector side - without the image moving sideways. on the screen E, as would be the case if the mirror M2 was larger and fixed on the
It will also be noted that it is relatively easy, with this type of structure, to vary "in size" the projected image, and this for any value of the shoulder height taken as. "Dimension of reference" in this image : it suffices in fact to "bend" or "dig" more or less the M2 mirror (at 26 and 27 in FIG. 3) in the manner of deforming mirrors. This is the reason why provision has been made for the
Consequently, to correct this aberration - incompatible with the need to provide a perfect illusion to the person who is observing - the curvature of the mirror M2 is produced with a torsion bar incorporated in the
Under these conditions, as soon as the slides projected on the screen E are of the type, already described in French patent n ° 1,544,746, representing clothes worn by a mannequin whose head is hidden (either at the shooting , or at the projection), we realize that we can connect - in an absolutely perfect way - the projected images to that of the face of any person, with adjustment of the "width" of these images to the corpulence particular person.
- on the one hand, calibrated a height position of the
projectors 10 corresponding to the corresponding height position of the projector 1 on its funicular, - - And on the other hand, coordinated relative movements of these respectively mobile elements.
The second adjustment relates to an easy-to-operate coupling between the respective extreme positions, of these elements as shown in FIG. 5 in which the projector is in the low position with its mirror in the M'2 position, while the
The first adjustment must, however, be made from a projection of a slide representing a "standard" mannequin and we perceive, in this regard, that once this adjustment is made, it is essential that all slides are "aligned", that is to say "calibrated" on the same standard dummy so that the adjustment thus operated can be normally used afterwards, with all the slides.
We therefore understand that the shots must be taken with a certain rigor.
We will therefore now describe, with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7, the shooting process which precisely makes it possible to carry out this calibration of the slides.
The shooting is carried out on a
The installation comprises a vertical one-
The mannequin is invited to pose in a place identified by a
- - on the one hand, the
test pattern 39, - - on the other hand, its own image.
It is therefore possible to adjust the target in height so that it is placed in height at the hollow of the mannequin's neck. Consequently, the latter has a caliber in relation to which it can perfectly position itself above the
mire 39.
- - the
mannequin 30 - - and the (reflected) image of the
target 39.
Of the. So, he can appreciate - for his part - when the mannequin's neck is well glued to the image of the
- - the lower horizontal edge of its field of view is just at mark 36 (that is to say in front of the manikin's feet)
- - And or the upper horizontal edge of this field passes, for example, flush with the nose of said dummy.
- - the ground, i.e. the feet of the mannequin and the nose as well as the height of shoulder) of this mannequin, - as well as those of all the other mannequins which could be photographed in their turn - will be rigorously positioned in the same places on the slides.
As we saw above, these feet will therefore be positioned in the same place on screen E, whatever the models and whatever the sizes which will be given to the images 11 or 11 'projected on the screen E according to the more or less significant recoil of the headlamp 1 on the rails 16 - 17 of its funicular.
De la sorte, il est parfaitement possible d'étalonner le couplage des moteurs actionnant respectivement les déplacements verticaux du projecteur 1 et des projecteurs 10 pour qu'à toute hauteur d'épaules des images 11 et 111corresponde la hauteur convenable des projecteurs 10.Likewise, for a given position of this projector on its funicular, the shoulder line of the projected images will always be the same whatever the slides and whatever the size of the mannequin which will have been photographed. In this way, it is perfectly possible to calibrate the coupling of the motors respectively actuating the vertical displacements of the projector 1 and of the
We can also make sure that the photographer "checks" himself that his framing is correct by providing on either side of the
Conversely, if a mannequin indicates its size, the photographer can carry out its installation (that is to say the retreat of the
- - materialize on a "witness" slide this hollow of the neck in the form of a test pattern
- - and to project this witness slide to carry out, before any projection of adornment, an adjustment "in size" (that is to say in height) of the corresponding projected image, to adapt it to the size of the person called to observe itself.
It suffices, in fact, to project this "witness" slide on the screen, which then makes it possible to see behind the mirror the image of this test pattern marrying the proper image of the person who stands in front of the mirror. From then on, all that remains is to activate the
This maneuver can be performed by the person himself with a simple command button.
On a ainsi représenté sur la figure 8 la diapositive qui permet de réaliser cette "mise à la mesure" d'une façon rigoureuse et sans opérateur.FIG. 8 thus represents the slide which makes it possible to carry out this "measurement" in a rigorous manner and without an operator.
- .
un bouton 45 pour faire monter la mire - .
un bouton 46 pour la faire descendre.
- .
- - on the one hand, the "hollow of the neck"
pattern 43 that the person must bring up to the height of his shoulders by dilating the projection in height of this slide - - And on the other hand, with the
appropriate comment 44, the illustration of the buttons that the person must actuate (on amotor control head 23 placed at the end of a cable and held in the hand by this person) to determine and control this expansion, namely:- . a 45 button to raise the target
- . a
button 46 to lower it.
The same control operation can be carried out, with the aid of a witness slide shown in FIG. 9, so that the person who is observing "can measure" his own build, that is to say adjusts the width of the image projected on the screen E from slides photographed on normal mannequins.
- - who sees this slide projected behind the mirror M - controls the motor actuating the torsion bar of the mirror M2, according to
instructions 48, by pressing one of the buttons illustrated in 49 and 50 and located on the manual control head . The person sees then deviate or tighten the two shoulders of the test pattern ofbuild 47 and it suffices for him to bring this test pattern in accordance with his own build.
- - in size
- - then in middle by adjusting the
43 and 47 on its own image, the installation is then to the exact measurement of this person. If the latter then activates the "start" button on the control head which she can hold in her hand, the "real" slides with ornaments begin to be projected. The person then discovers himself in a fraction of a second dressed in a garment perfectly suited to him. The "cinderella" effect thus produced by the garment which "falls" perfectly on the body of a mannequin exactly the size of the person who is observed, in an advantageous attitude and without the least betrayal of a connection which then is perfect, is quite what has so far been lacking in installations of this kind.test patterns
From then on, the person observing himself identifies himself perfectly with the image he sees and as soon as he "feels" the garment "on himself", it is possible to use the installation in areas that remained relatively closed so far.
For example, as the heads of the mannequins are always placed in the same place on the slides, it suffices - at the projection - to provide a cover in front of the lens to hide the faces. Consequently, the shots can be taken without constraint of hood or others.
In addition, it is possible to process the collections of historic clothing in museums in slides and to "dress" visitors.
Indeed, these clothes are extremely fragile and, most often, they were made on people whose sizes or body sizes are very different from those of the man of the 20th century.
For example, historical figures were two or three centuries ago quite small and it is no longer possible to "revive" their clothes. On the other hand, an exceptional shot, treated according to the process illustrated in FIGS. 6 and 7, makes it possible to put these garments within the reach of multiple "fittings".
Thus, a samurai garment (Figure 10) worn by a mannequin with the corpulence of the time can be photographed and projected following a special test pattern, allowing to tighten the projection to the size of a contemporary observer.
Also from this point on, we can envisage taking pictures - through the mirror M - of personalized composite images (customers wishing to have views of several items of clothing in order to collect an opinion with family, costumed children, precisely with real royal clothing, etc. ...).
- - on the one hand on the left without image projection, that is to say of the simple clean image 51
- - on the other hand, to the right of the same person (face 51) "dressed" by a projected image 52.
The effect of this kind of photography is moreover accentuated by the fact that the "fusion" of the images is total since the three-dimensional image of the face is, on the photography, flat like the projected image.
It is important to note that these photographs are especially unusual since the camera used for the shooting, which must be placed at 53 (figure 2) in front of the person in room 6 and which should - normally in a current shooting in front of a mirror - appear on the photograph, does not appear there.
It is understandable, therefore, that such photographs are "credible" only insofar as they correspond to the reality of a person who "feels" - in clothing when the photograph is taken. On the other hand, when this feeling is acquired, photography becomes "natural" and it becomes possible to develop its exploitation.
It seems useful to insist on these precisions because the invention makes it possible, in fact, to "unblock" a whole range of applications which could not be exploited in practice.
For example also, it is clear that the recording of the respective times of observation of the successive projections, ordered by the person himself, as well as that of the returns of images to "review" them, as well as that of the Photographs which could be taken under the control of a money receiving device constitute infinitely precious results in terms of survey and preparation of collections.
The invention is therefore of course not limited to the embodiments described and shown, but it encompasses all variants and developments.
In particular, the methods for adjusting the sizes of the projected images and for taking the corresponding shots have been described with reference to conventional projection equipment on conventional screens. It is obvious that the same methods could be applied to other types of projection of the video genre or even of the genre by holography.
Likewise, ornaments have been described as being garments whose images are to be connected. The same processes can be applied to adornments such as jewelry or spectacle frames, the images of which should be superimposed on those of people called to observe themselves.
Finally, the invention having now been exposed and its interest justified in detailed examples, the applicants reserve exclusivity for the entire duration of the patent, without limitation other than that of the terms of the claims below.
