Der mechanische Trocknungseffekt nimmt dadurch sehr schnell ab, da durch die hundertprozentige Luftsättigung ein Großteil des Wassers mit dem Material geschleppt wird und - wie Versuche gezeigt haben - bis zum Austrag gelangt. Der mechanische Trocknungseffekt bzw. Durch diese Maßnahme kann bei geringem elektrischem Energieaufwand die Restfeuchte des Materials wesentlich gesenkt werden, so daß die nachgeschaltete thermische Trocknung kleiner ausgelegt werden kann. Innerhalb des Siebkorbes 4 befindet sich ein mit einer Welle 11 verbundener Rotor 10, der in Lagern 15, 16 drehbar abgestützt ist. Der Antrieb des Rotors ist nicht dargestellt. Des weiteren ist der Rotor 10 in nicht näher dargestellten Kammern 10a aufgeteilt, die einen zickzackförmigen Weg 12 des zu trocknenden Gutes durch das Gehäuse 1 bewirken. Die zur Trocknung des Gutes über die Stutzen 6 zugeführte Luft wird nach Ausnutzung und Aufnahme der Feuchtigkeit über einen oder mehrere Stutzen 13 abgezogen, die je nach Luftführung am Gehäuse 1 angeordnet sind. Dabei kann auch hier ein Ventilator 14 vorgesehen sein, der die Druckwirkung des Ventilators 7 durch Saugwirkung unterstützt. Der oder die.Stutzen 14 können so angeordnet sein, daß die Luft im Gegenstrom bzw. im Querstrom zum Gut geführt ist, . das heißt, im Gegenstrom wird die Luft axial entgegen der Gutrichtung durch das Gehäuse 1 geführt und im Querstrom wird die Luft radial durch das Gehäuse 1 geführt.
