Description
Die Erfindung betrifft Belichtungssysteme, insbesondere
die Verwendung von Mehrfach-Modulatoren, die auch als
Lichtventile bezeichnet werden, in Belichtungssystemen.
Bisher benutzte zweidimensionale Lichtmodulatoren wurden
ohne relative Bewegung zwischen der Abbildung des Modu
lators und dem belichteten Material benutzt. Irgend eine
Bewegung während der Abbildung einer zweidimensionalen
Anordnung würde zu einer unscharfen Abbildung in Richtung
der Bewegung führen. Es ist auch die Verwendung einer
linearen Anordnung bekannt (US-PS 45 71 603), wobei je
doch beim Abbilden großflächiger Lichtquellen wie Glüh
lampen oder Bogenlampen auf eine lineare Anordnung ein
großer Lichtverlust auftritt. Bei einer anderen Lösung
finden kleinflächige Lichtquellen hoher Helligkeit wie
Laser Verwendung, was jedoch verhältnismäßig teuer ist,
wenn große Lichtmengen mit kurzen Wellenlängen (blau und
ultraviolett) benötigt werden. Die Erfindung ist insbe
sondere von Bedeutung für Prozesse, bei denen große Men
gen von moduliertem Licht im blauen und ultravioletten
Bereich benötigt werden, wie beispielsweise bei der Be
lichtung von Druckplatten, der Belichtung von gedruckten
Schaltungen und bei der Stereolithographie.
Gemäß der Erfindung findet ein Lichtmodulator Ver
wendung, für den großflächige Lichtquellen eingesetzt
werden können und der aus einer Lichtquelle wie einer
Bogenlampe besteht, die auf ein zweidimensionales Licht
ventil abgebildet werden, das vorzugsweise einen deformier
baren Spiegel aufweist. Das Lichtventil wird auf licht
empfindliches Material abgebildet und diese Abbildung
wird entlang dem lichtempfindlichen Material abgetastet.
Die auf dem lichtempfindlichen Material abzubildende In
formation wird in die erste Reihe des Lichtventils einge
geben. Wenn die Abbildung des Lichtventils entlang dem
Material abgetastet wird, wird die Information in der
ersten Reihe auf folgende Reihen in einer Richtung und
mit einer Rate übertragen, wodurch die abgebildeten Daten
relativ zu dem belichteten Material stationär bleiben.
Durch Benutzung einer großen Anzahl von Reihen können
gleichzeitig ein hoher Wirkungsgrad für die Lichtsammlung
ein hohes Auflösungsvermögen und hohe Datenraten erzielt
werden. Dadurch können Nachteile vermieden werden, die
bei großflächigen Lichtquellen wie Bogenlampen und Glüh
lampen mit geringer Helligkeit auftreten.
Ein weiteres Ziel der Erfindung besteht darin,
einen Lichtmodulator anzugeben, mit dem große Lichtmengen
moduliert werden können. Da die besten Lichtquellen für
große Lichtmengen großflächig sind, wie beispielsweise
lineare Bogenlampen, ist es nicht möglich, bekannte Modu
latoren zu benutzen, ohne die relative Bewegung zwischen
dem Modulator oder dem Lichtventil und dem belichteten
Material anzuhalten. Durch die Erfindung soll die Modu
lation von großen Lichtmengen während des Abtastens er
möglicht werden.
Ein weiteres Ziel der Erfindung besteht darin,
einen Modulator für großflächige Lichtquellen anzugeben,
der mit den meisten Abtastverfahren kompatibel ist.
Normalerweise benutzte Abtastverfahren, bei denen bei
spielsweise rotierende oder vibrierende Spiegel oder
eine rotierende Trommel Verwendung finden, sind ledig
lich mit linearen Mehrfach-Modulatoren kompatibel.
Gemäß der Erfindung können sie mit zweidimensionalen
Modulatoren benutzt werden.
Es ist deshalb Aufgabe der Erfindung, Nachteile
und Schwierigkeiten der genannten Art möglichst weit
gehend zu vermeiden. Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß
durch den Gegenstand des Patentanspruchs 1 gelöst.
Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen der Erfindung sind Gegen
stand der Unteransprüche.
Anhand der Zeichnung soll die Erfindung bei
spielsweise näher erläutert werden. Es zeigt
Fig. 1 eine schematische Darstellung eines
bevorzugten Ausführungsbeispiels gemäß der Erfindung,
bei dem ein zweidimensionaler Modulator mit einem de
formierbaren Spiegel Verwendung findet; und
Fig. 2 eine schematische Darstellung des
Grundprinzips der Erfindung bei Benutzung eines Modula
tors mit einem deformierbaren Spiegel.
Bei dem Ausführungsbeispiel in Fig. 1 ist
eine lineare Bogenlampe 1 vorgesehen, an die eine Spannungs
quelle 2 angeschlossen ist und die unter Verwendung
einer Linse 3 auf eine Anordnung mit einem deformierbaren
Spiegel abgebildet wird. Der einen deformierbaren Spiegel
enthaltende Lichtmodulator 4 ist eine von der
Firma Texas Instruments Inc., USA hergestellte Einrich
tung, deren grundsätzliche Arbeitsweise aus der US-PS
44 41 791 bekannt ist.
Die Spiegelanordnung des Lichtmodulators 4
wird unter Verwendung einer Linse 5 auf lichtempfindli
ches Material 6 abgebildet. Die Position des lichtempfind
lichen Materials 6 wird durch einen Positionswandler
7 erfaßt. Der Positionswandler 7 ist eine im Handel
verfügbare Einheit wie beispielsweise eine lineare Co
diereinrichtung. Wenn keiner der deformierbaren Spiegel
in der Anordnung aktiviert wird, wird alles auf
die Anordnung auffallende Licht weg von der Linse 5 re
flektiert und erreicht deshalb dann nicht das licht
empfindliche Material 6. Wenn irgend einer der Spiegel
aktiviert wird, reflektiert er das Licht in die Apertur
der Linse 5, so daß eine Abbildung auf dem lichtempfind
lichen Material 6 erfolgt. Ein derartiges optisches
System ist an sich bekannt. Die Anordnung des Lichtmo
dulators 4 besteht aus vielen Reihen von deformierbaren
Spiegeln und ist derart positioniert, daß die Reihen
senkrecht zu der Bewegungsrichtung des Materials 6
verlaufen.
Die auf das Material 6 abzubildenden Daten
werden in die erste Reihe der Anordnung unter Verwendung
einer Treiberschaltung 8 eingegeben. Die Treiberschaltung
ist eine an sich bekannte Schaltung (US-PS 45 71 603,
die ein Teil der Anordnung mit deformierbaren Spiegeln
sein kann.
Wie aus den Fig. 1 und 2 ersichtlich ist,
sind die wesentlichen Merkmale der Erfindung in der
Synchronisation zwischen der Bewegung des lichtempfind
lichen Materials 6 und der Sequenz der Übertragung
von Daten von Zeile zu Zeile innerhalb der Spiegelan
ordnung zu sehen. Die Daten gelangen in die erste
Reihe der Spiegelanordnung des Lichtmodulators 4 und
bilden ein Muster aus aktivierten Spiegeln. Dasselbe
Datenmuster wird auf die nächste Reihe übertragen,
während ein neues Muster in die erste Reihe eingegeben
wird. Von der zweiten Reihe werden die Daten an die
dritte Reihe übertragen, ohne daß das Muster geändert
wird. Dieser Prozeß ist in Fig. 2 dargestellt, wobei
a, b und c die Sequenz der Datenübertragung zwischen
den Reihen der Spiegelanordnung zeigen. Bei dem bevor
zugten Ausführungsbeispiel beträgt die Anzahl der
Reihen etwa 100, während die Anzahl von Spiegeln in
jeder Reihe etwa 1000 betragen kann. Die genaue Anzahl
von Reihen und die Anzahl von Spiegeln pro Reihe hängt
von den Dimensionen der benutzten Lichtquelle und
von der benötigten Datenrate ab.
Wenn die Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit der
Daten zwischen Reihen mit der Bewegung des lichtempfind
lichen Materials 6 derart synchronisiert wird, daß
die Abbildung eines Datenmusters irgend einer Reihe
stationär relativ zu dem lichtempfindlichen Material
6 erscheint, tritt keine Unschärfe der Abbildung auf
grund der Bewegung des Materials 6 auf.
Wenn beispielsweise die Linse 5 die Größe
der Anordnung um einen Faktor Zwei beim Abbilden auf
dem Material 6 reduziert und der Abstand der deformier
baren Spiegelelemente 0,01 mm beträgt, soll die Über
tragung von Daten zwischen Reihen jedesmal auftreten,
wenn das Material 6 um die Hälfte von 0,01 mm bewegt
wird. Dies wird dadurch erzielt, daß die Impulse von
dem Positionswandler 7 benutzt werden, um die Daten
übertragung von Reihe zu Reihe in der Anordnung des
Lichtmodulators 4 zu steuern.
Es ist ohne weiteres ersichtlich, daß eine
Bewegung des Materials 6 nur eine von vielen bekannten
Möglichkeiten der Abtastung der Abbildung der Anordnung
des Lichtmodulators 4 auf das Material 6 beinhaltet.
Eine andere bekannte Möglichkeit besteht in der Ver
wendung eines sich bewegenden Spiegels zum Abtasten
des Lichts entlang dem Material anstelle einer Bewe
gung des Materials. In diesem Fall wird der Positions
wandler 7 anstelle an dem Material 6 an dem sich bewe
genden Spiegel befestigt. Eine andere bekannte Mög
lichkeit besteht darin, das Material 6 um eine Trommel
aufzuwickeln und die Trommel vor der Linse 5 zu drehen.
Um alles Material 6 zu belichten, wird normalerweise
eine zweidimensionale Bewegung des Materials oder
des Lichts benötigt. Alle diese bekannten Abtastver
fahren sind als solche nicht Gegenstand der Erfindung.
Es ist ebenfalls ersichtlich, daß eine An
ordnung mit deformierbaren Spiegeln nicht der einzige
zweidimensionale Lichtmodulator ist, der bei einem
System gemäß der Erfindung verwendet werden kann.
Beispiele für andere verwendbare Modulatoren sind
zweidimensionale Flüssigkristallanordnungen, zwei
dimensionale magnetooptische Modulatoren, zweidimen
sionale ferroelektrische Modulatoren, sowie sonstige
Modulatoren, die mit einer zweidimensionalen Anordnung
hergestellt werden können.
Claims (9)
1. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem mit einer
Lichtquelle (1), mit lichtempfindlichem Material
(6), mit einem zweidimensionalen Lichtmodulator
(4), der eine Mehrzahl von Reihen aus lichtmodu
lierenden Zellen aufweist, mit einer Einrichtung
(3) zum Abbilden der Lichtquelle auf den Licht
modulator, mit einer Einrichtung (5) zum Abbilden
des Lichtmodulators auf das lichtempfindliche
Material (6), mit einer Einrichtung zur Erzeugung
einer relativen Bewegung zwischen der Abbildung
des Lichtmodulators und dem lichtempfindlichen
Material, wobei die Richtung der Bewegung im we
sentlichen senkrecht zu der Richtung der Reihen
aus lichtmodulierenden Zellen verläuft, sowie mit
einer Einrichtung zum Verschieben der auf dem licht
empfindlichen Material abzubildenden Daten in die
erste der Reihen und einer Einrichtung zum Über
tragen der Daten von der ersten Reihe zu folgenden
Reihen des Modulators mit einer Rate, durch die
die Abbildung irgend eines Datenmusters im wesent
lichen stationär relativ zu dem lichtempfindlichen
Material gehalten wird, bis Daten aus der letzten
der Reihen herausgeschoben werden, welche Sequenz
andauert, bis alle abzubildenden Daten durch den
Lichtmodulator hindurchgelangt sind.
2. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach An
spruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zwei
dimensionale Lichtmodulator (4) eine Anordnung
von elektrisch gesteuerten deformierbaren Spiegeln
aufweist und daß die Abbildung des Lichtmodulators
derart erfolgt, daß nur diejenigen deformierbaren
Spiegel, die durch die Daten aktiviert werden,
das lichtempfindliche Material erreichendes Licht
weiterleiten.
3. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch
1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweidimensionale
Lichtmodulator eine Flüssigkristalleinrichtung
enthält.
4. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch
1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweidimensionale
Lichtmodulator eine magnetooptische Einrichtung
enthält.
5. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch 1,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweidimensionale Licht
modulator eine ferroelektrische Einrichtung enthält.
6. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch
1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweidimensionale
Lichtmodulator 50 bis 100 Reihen enthält, wobei jede
Reihe 100 bis 5000 Zellen aufweist.
7. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch 1
oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Lichtquelle
eine lineare Bogenlampe ist.
8. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch 1,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Lichtquelle eines
Glühlampe mit einem linearen Glühfaden ist.
9. Belichtungs- und Lichtmodulationssystem nach Anspruch 1,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das lichtempfindliche
Material sich in einem flüssigen Zustand befindet.
